Great video. First time I've ever seen that piston tool. Really neat. I use a huge C-clamp and it does work but not as efficient as a purpose built tool like yours. Your videos are getting really streamlined now. Great info, great angles, loving it.

I agree with the person above, those swivel sockets are worth their weight in gold, I find them extremely useful in tight spaces , like around turbos and bell housings. good vid man :)

rich you should get some impact swivels. Not the u joint kind they're a pain and not the ones with the socket size built in, just the one with a male on one side and female on the other, I bought some at harbor freight along with some extensions so i dont have to be fooling around getting the impact gun into place. Very good time saver. I forgot exactly what they are called but they should be right next to the impact u joint swivels.

My parking brake shoe started to fall apart so I attempted the repair. Parking brake is behind the rotor and engages on inside surface of rotor. Debris from the shoe pads were causing horrible noises. See my vid here if you’re interested kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3jHmnVnhZmsmKM

That is a neat attachment for your air impact gun. Never saw one like that.. Also, could GM make a more cheap suspension. There is nothing to it. The rotor looks like something off a kids bike. I'm a GM guy but really could they put some substance into a car..? Great Vid as usual...Take Care
@RichpinTv11 жыл бұрын
No problem there because i never put fluid in the reservoir as it goes lower because of pad wear.

It might be ok if the pads have the backing on them.

Did you have to take the cap off the brake fluid reservoir and remove some of the fluid? Normally when blakes are worn right down... there is way too much fluid in there. Or it's hard to push the piston in with the cap on

@RichpinTv9 жыл бұрын
daytonpyro Sounds like you need new rotors and pads.
@ChucksBasix5 жыл бұрын
There is no adjustment... You either have an ABS unit that has a valve or two stuck which is limiting or stopping pressure from going back, or you have air in the rear line set. I know your post is 3 years old, however the only "adjustment" you can do is to bleed the brake lines on these cars.

what do you have to do to put 24s on a 1987 chevy monte ss
@JackassHill8 жыл бұрын
+Steven Washington As far as I know, 22's fit, but rub a little. W/a 24", you're going to possibly get into the outer fender wells, and have to run spacers or crazy offset at least in the back. Also, run as low pro a tire as possible.

Hey richpin, do you know something about the unnecessary TPMS (Tire pressure monitor system)? 2007 and up of all american and made in 'america' cars has it. My TPMS light on my dash is on, I know there's a faulty sensor and dealer bill me a little bit less than my soul to repair it. Will not fix it, any ideas? thanks!

what side is the parking brake adjuster on?
@ChucksBasix5 жыл бұрын
There is an adjuster on each back wheel... You can usually only access them from the backside behind a rubber plug. What he was showing was the same thing with the rotor removed because it's a pain from the back side.
@robluke41973 жыл бұрын
Working on my 2010 this weekend. The new rotor would not fit on the right rear hub. Had to adjust my 'drum-in-hat' drum brake style parking brake. Working from the outside at the bottom of the hub used a flat screwdriver and leveraged against the hub to turn the adjuster wheel down which pulls the brake shoes in so now the rotor can slide on all the way. Great video Richpin06a!

Just get a right angle impact drill. My brother only uses the regular impact drill for the tire lugnuts, then uses the right angle impact drill for everything else. That hand sized thing was neat, but if it has no power and you can't use it on everything, then it's useless.
@MrNusouth8 жыл бұрын
dumb question. since I'm JUST changing the pads, do I need to remove the rotor?
@stevehoward30497 жыл бұрын
Kedar. No you should be able to remove just the calipers and change the pads then put the calipers back on their mounts
@danlankow82356 жыл бұрын
Kedar. Its not necessary. However IMO, You should have rotors machined when replacing pads. New pads will last longer & perform better

@flipshoe9 жыл бұрын
the screw that holds rotor on is unnecessary. so after you remove it you can throw away. It's purpose is to hold rotor on at factory till tire was installed. so rotor would not fall off going down assembly line.
@RichpinTv9 жыл бұрын
Kevin McCarthy Very interesting never knew that, thank you.
@techbill29009 жыл бұрын
+Kevin McCarthy I usually install one of the lug nuts while I'm putting it back together
@TBach19797 жыл бұрын
If that screw wasn't necessary then why do they put that hole in the new rotor. they wouldn't have spent time screwing in a bolt to hold on the rotor. On my cavalier the drum was held on with a push nut which is a lot faster to put on, so they would have done that if it wasn't important. It is a good idea to put that bolt back in to keep the rotor tight to the hub.

@stevehoward30497 жыл бұрын
Xochitl Samuels Yes very important. But in this case he didn't have to open the lines. So for this job bleeding not necessary.
@DanielKoch877 жыл бұрын
you have to make sure you pump the brakes up once once you have pushed that piston back in.. Bleeding only happens when a line is taken loose.

If he would pay attention to wear on his brakes he would not have ruined the rotor.
@ChucksBasix5 жыл бұрын
Heh, most people ignore brakes till the pads are worn out and the little clip makes it's lovely screeching sound. With rears, the rotors will usually wear out before the pads do and most cars you can't see the condition of the rear rotors.

next time, you can carefully heat them with a burnzomatic torch(paying close attention to the rubber boots) and attach sharp vise grips then a good couple of whacks with a 2lb hand sledge on the vise grips and they come right out. mine were rusted good(ohio) so I had to replace them anyways.
