If anyone is needing to do this, some advice. You don't need to take the fuel rails off unless you want to replace the o rings for some reason, just disconnect the lines and leave the rails attached to the plenum. They will just come off with the plenum. Also, I disconnected the exhaust crossover and pulled the head with the manifolds still connected. Thanks for the vid! Very helpful!

Diesel mechanic working on a gas car…. Scratching my head quite a few times. Understand the mechanics but these tiny things are hard to work on like 2x the patience I normally have to have 😂. Your video helped me and as a mechanic I appreciate it! P.s. I did send heads out to be checked and cleaned before re install. Thank you!!

15:20 Once these bolts are in a ways, I was able to get a wobble extension on a short socket and finish them off. To get the one on the right (passenger side) down far enough I used a ratcheting box end wrench. I was getting 4 clicks per turn on a 72-tooth ratchet. Fortunately, the bolt went in easy so I was able to go almost faster than I could count! Thank you for sharing and stay safe.

Of all the videos and instructions I looked at, this one is one of the better ones. But it is not quite as simple as it looks. There is a lot of missing information that is really important for newbies. This not a job for anyone that has big hands. My wedding ring is size fourteen and I had to do a lot of extra work and disassemble many things to get at some of the nuts and bolts. This guy just shows you all the easy stuff and if you don't have any mechanical experience, this is not a job you should do by yourself. You will need many different kinds of ratchets and ratchet wrenches to get at some bolts.
@royzcustomz
@royzcustomz 3 жыл бұрын
thank you for watching the video. I want to start off with yes, you are right this job is not for the newbie, it is mostly so people can see how much is involved and it is more for someone who at least knows what they are doing but has not yet done this particular job before. there are a few things that need to be removed to get them out of the way. If you look through the comments it has helped many people get the job done. as far as the job not being for people with big hands I totally agree because my hands are not huge but they are not small either so it was rough getting through some of the job myself. I will try and do a better job and be more thorough with my videos in the future.

Right now I'm just trying to remove the fuel rail and I'm gonna do the heads later, but I'm having trouble getting the part of the fuel rail toward the firewall off, the rail isn't wanting to come off the line. I'm gonna try using rags to help with grip and maybe that'll help. My car's 21 years old and the o-ring has probably never been removed so it's difficult.

@@royzcustomz I ended up getting the quick disconnects in the back off but one of the lines are still connected. I'm thinking about taking the fuel injectors to a mechanic so he can clean/test them and put new o-rings on and see if he has any ideas on how to get that line off of the rail. I'm gonna grease everything up in case anything has to be torn down in the future and I wanna replace the fuel rail o-ring. I don't exactly have to but if he can get the line off I will. Thanks for making the video it's been very helpful and once I can buy all the gaskets I'll be a step closer to getting the engine running right again.

I know you commented a year ago but especially for anyone else wondering, the back gasket is the same part and you need to take the exhaust off plus whatever else is in the way, I disassembled a long time ago so I can’t tell you for sure without getting my Haynes manual out. I needed an impact wrench and multiple extensions to get the exhaust off and the exhaust manifold bolts and studs are probably rusted so be careful, I broke a stud.

you might be able to get them milled if they are in tolerance. you may get lucky and find a set at the local parts yard for a good price. (hint) if the car at the parts yard is wrecked more than likely the engine is going to be good. I'd pull it apart and see if it's just the gasket first.
