Thanks for the video. Mine broke this morning and I was wondering what the actual problem was. Now I know and once it cools down some i will fix it for a few bucks. Will be ordering the blue clips off ebay.

If you don't want to break or drill the plastic by the center screw, you can use a bent coat hanger (and tons of patience) to reach the backside of the "bump" and slide it down to hit the little bar to release the latch. Then if the actuator itself is still good, use the Dorman Help! part no. 42426 as mentioned above to replace the end link.

Dude! You're the man! I've been dealing with this issue for over a year now, not being able to use my tailgate. Your video showed me how to at least open the dang window/tailgate. So did you just use zip ties to fix it?? Isn't there some sort of dealer part available? And for the comment below about not being able to open it: 1. You need to remove the back handle. Go inside the back of your Blazer and pull up on the black handle to release the tailgate. There are two Phillips screws there you need to unscrew so you can pull the handle off. 2. Once the handle is off, you are able to actually pull back on the plastic and reach down to release the window.. You've just got to find that copper-colored little bar/lever and move it to the left to pop open the window. My little lever had actually dropped down a bit out of sight, so I had to feel around but finally found it. Just keep looking if you haven't found it yet - it's definitely there.....Move it to the left and the back window will pop open!

yeah zip ties will work for a few months up to 6 months it's a temporary fix the dealer part I believe is 10 - $20 thank you

I was able to find the little, blue plastic piece (actuator clip) from a O'Reilly's Auto Parts. There were actually two in the package, I only needed one. I was careful not to pry too far when installing the new clip, but ended up pulling off the handle mechanism. That seemed more trouble getting that back together than the actual repair. But all went back together just fine, and now my back window button functions well. Thanks Keith!

On a side note my Owner's Manual for my '95 had instructions for getting into the tailgate in case of lock failure. Jeez, the things one learns just from reading the manual. LOL

Mine just broke drilled a hole threw the plastic peace that broke and wire tied it threw the hole I drilled and threw the locking mechanism then twisted the wire better than brand new 👍🏼

You left out the part where you have to break both ends of the plastic cover and a small piece on the top because of hidden screws that are impossible to get at with the tailgate closed. Also a piece of strong mechanics wire made a more permanent fix than zip ties.

Fairly straightforward repair once you figure out how to open the back window to open the tailgate. On my 1995 it was as simple as removing the two Phillips screws underneath the inside tailgate handle. Once the handle is off, you are able to pry more of the back panel away from the window in order to find the lever that opens that window. How did you get the panel off.

OK so you see me take the handle off, then pry open a bit in the center and you can reach down in there and unlock the window with a screwdriver on the medal arm you see towards the end of the video... Once the window is open, you can open the tail hitch using the handle. From there you can take the panel completely off by the screws on the side of the hitch.

how'd you remove the inside trim piece? does it just pry off?

the sides have screws in them, but with the door shut you just have to (after removing the handle screw) pull gently on it to slide down a long screwdriver to release the mechanism. Once the door is opened then you can remove the screw on both sides of the door and it comes off easily then. I hope this helps!

+colby lail there are screws on the side that cant accessed with the door closed. But pulling on the center will pop loose enough to reach a long flathead in there to pop the glass open with the latch mechanism.

Yeah. We discusses this in the comments and it's pretty accurately described how to do it because I needed both hands. In the end you will see the lever that moves so just reach down in there with a long screwdriver and move it manually the first time
