1A Auto shows you how to repair, install, fix, change or replace a broken or snapped rear hatch lock actuator. This video is applicable to the 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, or 05 Chevrolet S10 Blazer, 1995-2001 GMC S15 Jimmy, and 1996-2004 Oldsmobile Bravada models.
This repair was done on a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4.3L Sport Utility 4-Door 4WD Automatic and the process should be similar on the following vehicles:

@TweekinE If the tire is under the truck, there will be a hole near the license plate on the rear of the truck. I believe you can use the factory tire iron to stick in the hole and turn the screw that will lower the spare tire from under the truck. Sometimes these cables are frozen, so it may take a little persuasion. Hope this helps you out.

You may want to check the wire harness between the drivers side door and the body of the vehicle, for a broken or frayed wire. Hope this helps you out.

You may have to remove the plastic paneling in the back and see if the latch is actually disengaging or not.

You may want to check the fuse to the hatch first, and then test the wire with a test light or an ohm meter to see if there's power going to the door lock actuator.

If the tumbler is jambed, you would try to spray a little WD 40 in it to see if it will free up for you.

So, after taking off my tailgate panel, i found out a previous owner had the very bright idea to use expanding foam inside the back glass locking mechanism as well as the top of the panel, seemingly to keep it from moving. Because of this brillant idea they had, i need to replace the white thing that has a little lever on it that hangs around the actuator lever. I cant find a part number on it anywhere or a name for what it is. It looks like a sensor of some sort and its completely locked up with expanding foam. What is that part?

You may want to remove the door panel and see if there's power to the door lock actuator. it there isn't you may want to check the fuses to see if any of them are blown.

You may have to take the door panel off and pop the tailgate open from inside of the door so that you can work on it.

@opera22opera If you change the locks then you would need to use a different key that comes with the new locks.

How did you know it was the actuator that was bad??? I'm curious because i have a 2000 Chevrolet S10 blazer LT 4wd with the same exact hatch with back glass. And the button on the dash and button on the hatch does not pop the glass open.....

I have a 1997 Blazer. Locks were "going crazy" even sitting still. Killed battery if left. Pulled fuse on power locks to stop that. Fuse back in, locks okay for now, but the glass won't open however the hatch door does. I suspect it's the key lock/switch or the actuator. How do I get the glass open to pull the screw that's accessed thru there?

You will have to get the tailgate down so you can access all of the locking mechanisms inside the tailgate itself .

I have a95 yukon with cargo doors. The driver side door won't open. Took panel apart n rode leading to the bottom latch is broke. Could you tell me or make a video on how to disengage the latch?

Do should be able to reach inside the door and pull on the rod or cable going to the door latch to pop it open. Hope this helps you out.

+hunter lutz Double check your fuses are intact and disconnect/reconnect the Battery. If that doesn't work, double check your alternator and other electronic components to make sure nothing was fried during the jump. If you have access to a new battery, swap it out and see if that works.
