I love it and use it all the time (since I was a kid) but it goes right over everyone from teachers, family to friends. "I was told there would be no math" , has stuck with me for 45 years. My favorite movie of all time is "Vacation". (maybe because I was 13 and Christie was there) but that is beside the point. A pure and total icon in America and comedic cinema. Go Fletch.

@saramill2097 Soshull cykolojee sez that physical attractiveness affects people's judgment. Chevy is good-looking & gets away with stuff other people can't. I have an uncle like this: probably never had less than three women on the side through his entire marriage. So there's a High Likelihood that Chevy got away with stuff as many, many people would just say something to themselves to _WANT_ to excuse his behavior, then forget that they made up the excuse. It's amazing what one can get away with when one is considered physically attractive. Presumably. 😒

Physically attractive people can get away with lots of sh*t. Look at the William Shatner George Takei back & forth. Shatner is 100% in the wrong on every facet of every issue. Everyone takes Captain Kirk's side. As if it's possible _everyone Shatner ever met_ have made the same mistake about him or that Takei is the instigator in any of this. Takei was sticking up for his cast who had, like most actors, stfu to not endanger their careers. When they saw how people reacted to George, they continued that way. If it wasn't for Shantner himself once blabbing about it all, we would never have known that Nichelle Nichols had her problems with him as well. She was *very* diplomatic & never publicly dissed him. She did it to _his face once,_ not in public & apparently, that was all. Chevy gets the same treatment. Good-looking people get forgiven for things they shouldn't. It wasn't "everyone" who hated him: only those he himself took a dislike to as he felt a need to tell people he felt that way about _that_ he did.

This is one for the books. On the one hand, Chevy's memory loss was obvious, on the other hand it didn't really matter. It was like watching a drunk guy on a trapeze. I can see why Chevy doesn't do a lot of interviews. When you get 2 established comedians fawning over you, saying "you're a legend" every 5 minutes, asking lame questions like "who's your top five SNL comedians?", and nervously laughing throughout, etc., it wouldn't be interesting to be a part of. Chevy's interview on Norm's show was better, because it was very free form.

LOL, this is the strangest and greatest interview they've done yet. We aren't getting much comedy anymore that's not only willing to offend everybody but is trying to. I love how Dana and David just had to tear up their questions halfway through because Chevy completely broke the format. But it seems like David completely forgot that Chevy once hosted his own talk show when he asked him about taking over for Carson.

there is a reference to Foster Brooks, a comic known for his drunk act. In the 1950's he was "Cactus" on a local TV show in Louisville, KY called T-Bar-V. It was in the afternoon with cartoons and old serials. An audience of kids were always present. They would be encouraged to "draw their 6-guns" and say say Hi to mom and dad. I was on the show , I think, twice. I remember most clearly, the ride to the studio in the "stage coach"' which looked a lot like a freight elevator, even to an 10 year old.

There's things that only Chevy Chase can make funny, for instance, the canteen sequence in Three Amigos when he's putting on lip balm. Now you name one.

The saloon scene in Dodge City in Vacation, is one of the funniest 2 minutes ever on tape. Not sure what other actor/comedian could have made it funnier. “Hey tenderfoot, move your chicken wings, Turkey!”
