VERY important that people know that a rag saturated in Linseed oil is absolutely volatile, and will self-combust. Wash out oily rags with water, and lay them flat OUTSIDE to dry. I've been using this stuff for years on my Patina'd cars, it works. But be careful when you're done to clean up.

Nice tips for the patina guys. What they call patina now we called "I haven't got to that yet". Thank you for your time.

Never had a choice as the oldest on a farm. If I wanted a vehicle it came from throwing hay, plowing or driving cattle over a weekend so all I could afford was vehicles that came with natural patina on them. Never thought much about keeping, maintain or enhancing it or preservation. Good ideas for this look Dave! Thanks for the information as I did not know I was a trend setter 50+ years ago! Ahead in my own time! DK, Omaha. Thanks again Dave, very interesting!

What does the linseed oil do if you want to paint the car later on down the line? Do you need to take the car down to bare metal so any residual linseed oil doesn't react with primers/fillers/paints/clears?

Do we just wash the truck normally like we always do for regular washings after the treatment?

Thank you for this presentation. Is this technique appropriate for base coat clear coat that has started to delaminate? If so how do you handle the ugly edges where the clearcoat is still present/about to delaminate?
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV Жыл бұрын
Around those edges we would feather the paint with a scratch pad until it blended.

What brand of sanding pads is he using and can it be sand paper instead or does it have to be those pads?
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV Жыл бұрын
These pads are 3M. Samdpaper could work too but you want to be careful not to do too much damage while improving the patina.

What are your recommendations when you come to an area with filler from a dent? I can't wait to do this on my '72.
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV Жыл бұрын
Our recommendation is to remove the filler and repair the metal as good as you can. There are many options in this case, but that would be our go to resolution. We have a great video showing how to take a dent out without much, if any damage to the original patina. Here's a link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnPQn5KHrpiVmM0

Remove body filler with a MAP gas or Propane torch...keep the flame far from the panel so you don't burn the paint. Dig it out with plastic tools. While it's still warm (paint is pliable) start knocking the dent out with tape wrapped hammers and dollys.

Does it matter if the linseed oil is raw vs boiled?

To be honest, we don't know. The oil we used for this video was boiled.

My 66 Chevy Truck is painted with John Deere Blitz Black would this process work well on flat black?
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV Жыл бұрын
That kinda depends on what look you're going for. If you're trying to bring up a little shine this would work as well as protect the paint from getting surface rust.

@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV I've had the paint job for about 15 years and, while there is a bit of chipping, it still looks pretty good. I've been using Flitz FM 11506-3A-3PK Flat Matte Finish Cleaner because I want to keep it flat. It doesn't seem like the patina approach would make it too shiny. Man I love these videos!!!
