These had ignition system Recall from the Factory . They also have problems with the key not coming out (open cover under steering wheel; press button). Plastic cars are a pain. Nice detailed job here.

Pretty sure there was a recall on the key switch couple years ago, it probably hasn't gone in to have it replaced. Video was very helpful been having the same problem with the oil leak & now the starter

Excellent troubleshooting, love the way you approached this one. As you say, not possible to do much high current drop testing if the contacts won't close. Also good thinking, to fix that oil pressure sensor while you're there with starter off. Confusing trouble codes!

Have the same car with the same issue starting to happen and I have the issue with the power steering after I was hit in traffic. But yes this helped me thankyou with I knew what to do about the power steering it just randomly cuts out on me

The computer for the electric power steering on those is known to go bad. I've had to change those before

That power steering code means the electric steering is bad. There is a hidden lifetime warranty on that, fyi

My wife's 2006 HHR has had 3 power steering electric motor failures. It is covers under a recall for the life of the car. Good job on your diagnosis.

Dude... I'm gonna change my oil pressure sensor now. Just installed a new starter a couple days ago and mine was also drenched in oil. Stater is only a year old. Hopefully my starter will last longer than a year this time😁

Great job Jonathan I had that problem before the sensor starts to leak and screw up the starter .. most shop would change the starter knowing it would come back because of the oil leak .. ask me been there done that ..

The owner was on the fence about changing the sensor....im like cmon! We have to change it. Its a no brainer. Times are tough and its difficult for people to justify putting extra cash into a car. Thanks for watching 👍

Hi, I recently lost all power. And power steering after jump starting with the under hood post(not knowing). Got a new 60a fuse for power steering but after jumping the car, it will not hold any charge. Turn off… everything is back completely dead. No lights ANYWHERE. Is it the battery in the rear or… a fuse? Thanks

Hello, I have a problem with my hhr, it also won't crank, the car was turning over when I bought it, but it had a bad timing chain tensioner, so a friend of mine replaced it and put it back together and now it won't crank over, he crossed the starter with a screw driver and it does turn over that way and has compression now which it didn't before, but it won't crank when you use the key, any ideas?..much appreciated.

First check the wiring to the starter is good. Need to make sure the starter has good power/ ground/ and power from turning the key (s terminal)

I am having this exact problem. I have no crank no start at all. Not even a click at the starter. I hit the starter with a hammer and still no start .So what you are describing in this video it may be my starter since i do have power at the starter. If you have any other advice on what it might be. I would be more than happy to have you help me with it please.

Thanks for the sub those relay bypass are IPA tools relay bypass , and the scanner is a launch diagun 4. Check my Amazon link in the video description. Click on diagnostics and you'll see the tools in there.

Thin wire goes to ignition switch . Main power wire goes to the battery. The other wire should just jump the two posts together.

Hi I got a 2008 chevy hhr and yesterday i noticed the car wasn't starting the same the starter was cranking slower then the next day today it got worse now just the starter clicking. I don't have that special fuse that you have to jump it but i will check a few things and try to jump it with a tap. Is this comon for a starter on the hhr to fail so quick? I am a doordasher so I do start the car lot. Thanks for any input.

Yeah I had the battery checked it's fully charged I even put jumper cables on it to see if that would change anyting. The only thing I'm getting is click click click click click and it's coming off the solenoid on the starter there's a bunch of oil and corrosion on there it's kind of hard to get to I might have to wipe it down I think if it's clicking it would be getting a contact.

Testing is always good but seeing that it didn't work with the power probe that's where you needed to stop. That starter was completely oil soaked and whether it worked or not it needed to be replaced and the cause for the oil soak needed to be repaired as well when you own a shop you can't take all day when the obvious is the obvious if you do you want to make much money that being said electrical circuits should be tested thoroughly but in this case come on we could really let that car go if it had a bad wire with that nasty starter????

I agree , but I don't work for a shop so I can take all the time I need. I also kinda make a living off KZbin so more information in a KZbin video is more important than knocking it out fast . This car would have been fixed and returned in a fraction of the time it actually took if I wasn't recording for the entertainment of my viewers.

The car sat over night so when i pulled the sensor no oil came out but every time i change these oil doesnt usually come out because its higher than the oil pan.

I have the same issue on my HHR. I touch the starter connections with a screwdriver it turned over but wouldn't start I turned the key lights and beeper comes on but it will not start but it's getting juice to the starter I've checked the relays I've moved them around I've replaced fuses and it still won't start any ideas thank you very much

@@themechanic6117 there was a factory recall on the ignition switch I had them to change the ignition switch it started came home like I started it one more time and I couldn't get it started anymore took the starter and had it checked out they put a new solenoid on it and it still won't start so that's the only thing I could think it to be would be the switch

Starter covered in oil Remove to replace, find leaking oil pressure sending unit Directly above that- leaking valve cover. Remove valve cover- discover loose rocker arm & timing chain, tensioner bad Might as well change chain & sprockets, water pump Find bad belt & idler pulley... Cars suck

In a perfect world everything gets fixed but where im from people only want to fix bare minimum. Its not about fixing random leaks or problems , its about fixing the immediate problem. People here dont like to be pushed into fixing other issues. If i kept bringing up problems on peoples cars i would eventually lose customers because they want to take their car somewhere where the immediate problem gets fixed.
