This was #1 in Google's search results when I searched it. 👍 Now I have a clue as to what's going on with a potential customer's car. Failed emissions for a P0411. I was looking around the belt driven accessories for an air pump (I'm stuck in the 80's automotive world, lol) - I wasn't even close! Glad I found this vid - I also thought that solenoid was an EGR valve! Looks very similar to one, with the metal pipe going down to the exhaust. Same principle, different function I guess. I'll see if I can't clean that thing out and hopefully make that code go away for the customer. I don't have much faith in that working, but I'll give it a try. I'm really really hoping this is my issue I put a brand new check valve and air pump and wires are getting power and ground when I tell my scanner to turn on pump I hear a click but it doesn't come on I'm praying I have this issue with my 08 lacrosse I'm at a loss and my inspection is up in a month

what did you say that annoying clicking sound was James? Thanks for sharing diagnostics like this. It really interests me. I am a Collision Tech with almost 27yrs under my belt, but have always wanted to learn more about the Mechanical/Technical side. I bought a MATCO Max GO Scanner mainly for abs/srs/sas resets and diagnosis but would like to get more of my money's worth out of it by being able to use it on other stuff for customers, that may not be accident related, plus....I have been kicking the idea around, about maybe switching professions and becoming an Auto Tech, although, with as advanced as these new vehicle systems are, I would have a he'll of a lot of catching up to do. IDK? The insurance companies have ruined this industry and have more or less taken it over. THEY dictate how much we charge or make profit wise, and more or less run the show,...and we ALL know how generous insurance companies are right? Effing Vampires they are. Anyway...thanks for your videos brother. Yeah...what the he'll was that noise?? lol

My neighboring body shop I help out with wiring diagrams and other info has been complaining about a new policy where they need to scan all cars with software that's more in depth than my snap on can do to see all the codes and the timeline as far as how long they were there before they can even touch the car. It's an expensive laptop based software or an online subscription that they can't bill back out. He has been flat bedding wrecks to the dealership to get the printout to satisfy the adjusters. That noise was an hvac electronic mode door that wasn't sending the correct door position back to the control unit , so it keeps trying to move the door even tho its at full lock. Hence the plastic gear stripping noise

ah,...got ya, mode door. Thanks,...Yeah, the collision industry is getting ridiculous anymore. The insurance companies more or less are of course our bread n butter so they feel they can "set the rules", and sometimes it seems they are actually running and managing the shop,....which boils down to them cutting corners when it coms to getting paid and doing the job the best way to serve and satisfy the customer. I mean, usually it is bad enough that the customer has been in a wreck, then we have the ins. companies nickle and diming us and telling us to use used or a/m parts that don't fit well, or not paying for blends to insure color match,.........lmao,...im sure you have had your ears filled from your neighbors!! James Danner Won't the snapshot report show when the code was set if that's what you're referring to in your post? I'm sure your brother knows how to find out how long a codes been in the system. They probably are doing that to make sure all systems worked properly that way if for example there was a airbag code it deploy if there's a air bag light on in dash which would probably allow the insurance company to deny certain parts and say "had this worked then this wouldn't be as damaged". Maybe the new Zeus by snap on might have that capability. IF so you could make a small fee to help recoup some of the scanner costs. You can always get the mongoose and do a tis web 2 day subscription. Bad part about about Mongoose is that you need a different one for just about each vehicle mfr. I have that mode door actuator deal, recalibrated using scan tool (Modis Edge), backprobed and all voltages checked good, door was able to be moved by hand with actuator removed so I replaced actuator, recalibrated and worked fine and with a few days wife says "It's clicking again and fix it". Still stumped as I removed the actuator and set mode door manually to recirculate to keep diesel exhaust on road out of interior. I'll have to mess with it soon as winters here and need to get it done. Lol....

Nice video. I think in the set-up section/features of Snapon scanners (Solus, Modis, Verus et. al.), you can change the settings from inchesHg/psi to kPa.

Hey Danner. FYI one atmosphere equals 14.696 Psi or 101.325kpa or 29.92"hg or 406.78" water column at sea level. So your pump making 2.9psi works out to (101.325kpa/14.696psi)x2.9psi = 19.99kpa. hope that helps.

Hey James hopefully you see this, your brother Paul said you had some experience with an issue I'm having on a PT Cruiser, something to do with the wiring harness being damaged near the subframe.

+Connor Campbell yea. Mine had a coil driver wire get shorted out. Down on drivers side in front of the tire . U can see where the transmission torque mount is going bad , and the wiring harness going to the computer gets rubbed and pulled

+Bill Rimmer yea. I never see total clean ones. As long as u are hitting that 5v peak and they look like that, it's normal to see.

+Bill Rimmer it just needs a mode door motor. The position feedback circuit is failed so head unit keeps trying to move the door even when it's at full lock , so the gears are skipping

super common on these impalas. its pretty easy to change. It tends to be the re-circulation door motor. just pull down the glove back and 3 little bolts hold it on.

Stupid mode doors. My exact words everytime one starts skipping in my 09 Impala. LOL Very annoying when that load machine gun is going off under the dash. In the past three years I have replaced each one. Three total. One for blend air behind glove box. One for passengers temp control. And hardest one under drivers side dash for drivers temp control. Don't buy from dealership. Buy from Rockauto.com they are about $20 each. I bought couple extra to keep in stock. Search KZbin for impala mode door motor replacement and you see a couple good ones posted. I believe every Impala on earth has this issue. God Bless You All. Merry Christ mas and Blessed New Year.

Emissions bullshit and dead weight. They pump clean air into the exhaust to "dilute" and further burn whatever hydrocarbons survive the engine on their way out the tailpipe. If it's broke, you pollute a little more, that's it. Notorious for breaking on Impalas, and a lot of guys remove them and flash the ECM to completely nuke it from the system.

no one bitches abouut the blend door actuators (THUNK THUNK THUNK THUNK) because they still think their HVAC works.... if the fan blows... and the AC works in the summer.... its working 100% to most customers then come winter in NE montana..... -50F.... and they cant figure out why their defrost doesnt work..... and the air only comes out of the floor.... the part is like 20 or 30 bucks..... and it takes me about 10 mins to swap one out (so like.... 80 bucks MAX to fix) (iirc, their is 3 or 4 of them total..... 1 or 2 are a pain to get too.... but a LOT easier than replacing a FUCKING HEADLIGHT BULB on most of these new POS cars) my 99 buick century..... pull up on two plastic "tabs"...... and the whole head light just falls right out but new cars..... ya have to pull the bumper cover.... inner fender....grill.... half of the rad assembly... like what the fuck..... how can we have it PERFECT in 1999...... yet FUCK IT ALL TO SHIT in 2020
