In this video we do a first attempt of sandblasting the frame of our Chevy 3/4 ton pickup project. We had some difficulties using the machine and we ended up sending the frame to a sandblasting specialist. Here's the process

Silica sand is the worst blast media - for you & for the metal - use crushed glass. You also need Air to blast - a LOT of air. If it's got a plug, it ain't gonna blast anything much - it needs to have a diesel motor. If it has a quick-coupler - ditto. Blasters use twist-couplers on big 3/4" or 1" hose.. The nozzle you're using is also chunk - it eats its own shut-off every time you operate the action. Bit by bit, but usually pretty quickly - you need a big get-lost valve that kills the air. Hoover is yer pal for emptying the crud out of the blast-pot, but it's all moot as shop-air won't blast a whole lot of anything for long. At 100cfm you're getting started, but 140 or 170 cfm is better. That's a tow-compressor./

I've been looking for a truck for two months, and no lie that frame looks more solid than anything I've seen in the 2000-2010 range. Trucks are tight these days.

I got a 72 c10. I ended up wire wheeling the whole frame front to back. Punched out every rivet. Took about 3 weeks at 2 hours a day to completely clean and paint. Now it's a complete rolling frame
@patroberts47083 жыл бұрын
Are you using a drill for the wire wheel or a grinder ?Im doing both on my 72k10
@jorozco98633 жыл бұрын
@@patroberts4708 both. Grinder for outside of frame and crossmembers and drill for the inside of it all. Good thing I punched out all the rivets my rear frame section had layers of rust between the frame and crossmembers

Sand doesn’t cut enough for decent cleanup but gives you plenty of silica. Use coal slag or glass, also use a moisture trap.

You always have to make sure your equipment is working well I've had a few sandblasters the last one I think I had was a cyclone and it was heavy duty I think a cyclone tornado or something like that very good machine about $1,000 machine but you got to have the right compressor and you got to have a good hose and good ends cuz it'll where the ends out fast like your brass ball valves that you buy from Home Depot you got to have a real heavy duty one all that cheap shift does not work always makes your equipment's good because that safety also you could have pulled that line and at thing bursted at a hundred fifty pounds in your face be careful my man and good luck

Dear Sir, a question : When a rivet is removed, replace it with a bolt with a Grower washer and nut and once placed and adjusted, crush the end of the bolt against the nut with a hammer. What is your opinion ? Thanks !
@EliteTruckRepairsАй бұрын
You don't need a rivet, a simple bolt and nut is fine

It was really great experimental job but the problem is that the frame won't fit enough to reinstall n restore in the vehicle. The corroded part are too many n nobody s are dare enough to allowed the vehicle to be use on the road. Great effort n you can now probabbly start to think of selling the metals to the recycle center.

So my boyfriend is restoring an old 1950's Ford truck. His birthday is coming up and I would like to get him a sand blaster, something on the larger side since the peices he has to do are the hood/doors. What should I get him?
@EliteTruckRepairs3 жыл бұрын
He would probably want something like this www.tenaquip.com/product/king-canada-pressure-abrasive-sandblasters-ksb-10-tma003
@linasbalke17313 жыл бұрын
The sandblasting unit itself is not of such high importance in the process. You could have one for under 150$. the only major difference is size, but that only determines how often you will need to fill it with blasting media. What you want to focus on is your compressor, and if you want to comfortably work on bigger car parts like hood and doors it should probably be one providing around 800-1000 liters per minute. Make sure compressor is suitable, then sandblasting reservoir and a good amount of nozzle tips :)

@vm72210 ай бұрын
It took me about four days to sandblast my 61 short bed. About 6 hour a day. Just dry double sifted crusher sand. I would gather up the sand that I could and screen it through a kitchen dome mesh screen. Just make sure that it is completely dry.And get rid of any and all of the oily crap on the frame . Por 15 right on the bare metal

Hey, at least this guy started the video by saying "this is my first time trying this". How many videos out there clearly have no clue but try to come across as "training" or "how to". I knew it was over when he actually SAW debris in the bottom of the blaster and, like a lazy ass - lol, poured the bag in anyway - without screening. LMAO! I knew it was OVER! Don't ask me how I know though - lol. I couldn't even finish the video. It was too painful to watch - lol. You only try to half-ass it once with sandblasting. If you know, you know. Follow a procedure and don't cut corners. Carry on.

Very disappointing! The title is misleading, and therefore clickbait. When you use the equipment without cleaning it out beforehand, my shop teachers would have just sidelined you for the rest of the term. You can do much better than what I have observed. Title your videos as to what they actually are, not something to entice people to view. You can do better work. Do it!
