Your favorite car companies sell lots of stuff besides cars. You can get Porsche ice cube trays, Audi: The Board Game, or Bluetooth speakers that sort of look like a Lambo. Those’ll set you back $25,870. But for just a little more, Chevy will sell you a 1,000hp, ready-to-run engine, that’s a hell of a lot louder than those speakers. Today is all about the ZZ632: the baddest big block ever. We’re gonna figure out how it makes crazy power, and why an engine with roots in the 1950s won a best new product award at SEMA 2021. Let’s go!

Blueprint makes a 632 with a warranty that crushes the GM on price. At current market value its 15.5k for a fully dressed ready to run 632 that will run on pump gas. There is nothing that will remotely come close to that value in a crate. There are tests of that specific motor making 850 out of the box and has survived dyno pulls north of 2k with 22-24psi of boost.

A smaller, lighter engine turbocharged will give much better midrange torque. Installing this heavy engine will transform your cars handling to be a total pig. Fuel consumption at light throttle will be very bad also. I have a 800hp FG Falcon daily, that could be 1200hp just with stronger rods. There is no way I would install this ancient 60s tech pos engine. It has to be massive to make power, because it is so ancient and inefficient. All modern engines are 4v dohc vvt, and most 2021 engines are also turbo.

12.1 compression so way too high to boost and besides an 8-71 is way too small for a 632. With a forged bottom end, that compression, and cam it would love nitrous. You’d be surprised what a difference high octane pump gas can do for your engine. I had a suped up 71 SS and all I had to do to beat everything else on the road was to fill it half full of Ethel or Supreme and top it off with aviation fuel at our local small airport. I’ve even used a mothball before because they used to be made out of solid methanol. 50/50 Ethel and AVgas and hang on for dear life. And even if it was a GR Yaris last time I checked it was a 3 banger, which kinda says a lot. Not to mention the 2JZ GET which is a straight 6 that can put out about 2,000+ hp. 1,000 hp sounds like a good platform. But it depends if they mean 1,000 potential hp, or 1,000 hp out of the crate? If it is out of the crate then yes it is a really good base to start from. If not then you still need a lot of work to do and it doesn't seem as great anymore.

@Impactjunky
@Impactjunky 2 жыл бұрын
1 There is nothing modern about forced induction, mercedes has been factory supercharging cars since the 1920s. 2 The heads actually are extremely efficient which is why the thing is making over 1K at only 6600 RPM. Just one of those aluminum heads cost more than most people pay for a whole used car. 3 More power from lower revs is always more efficient than a stressful delayed high RPM peak. 4 The thing would run even better with a carburetor as proven by Engine Masters carb vs efi dyno shootout.
@damniambad
@damniambad 2 жыл бұрын
@@Impactjunky This tech have been used even longer than merc has superchargerd their engines. So this is more like how can we make the most low tech engine using best manufacturing technics in use today. Figures speak for them selves. Less than 100 bhp/per liter just screams a question of how much does it make when supercharged. And that's probably what happens for the most of these engines anyway. And two valves per cylinder aren't that much of a restriction with forced induction. My very very important and appreciated opinion here: Ford 1liter three cylinder turbo engine is more of an pinnicle of modern engineering than this. It actually makes that 100bhp/liter. Ten of those even weight less than 632. This is just "Let's take a truck engine and see how much can we cuddle out of it. By supersizeing it.". Now I'm not saying this isn't impressive. But this sure is not the best Cheavy can do with an engineer or two.
@Impactjunky
@Impactjunky 2 жыл бұрын
@@damniambad Nope, the big block Chevy hit the market in 58, long after the first supercharged cars of the 20's. There is almost nothing modern about the manufacture or design of this ZZ632 either. High flow aluminum heads were available in the 60's and people have been home building 632 Chevy's with and without aluminum heads and fuel injection for decades. Comparing the power per liter of a forced induction motor to a NA motor is like comparing apples to oranges so your comparison with that weak little three cylinder makes no sense. Also the word is pinnacle not pinnicle.
@damniambad
@damniambad 2 жыл бұрын
@@Impactjunky Oh you are right! It is spelled pinnacle. Other wise we can of course make whole new segment for zz632 so it can actually be good at something else than being big. Like the most american thing ever -segment. Or just best v8. Of this year. Made in america. And Is over 6,2 liters but under 12. And makes lot of noise. But not compared to displacement, cause its just too big for that. Any Ferrari NA engine is just way better in any way but the cost and there are lots of better oil burnes on the engine market that make torgue lower down and actually make some sense in a truck.

How far can you go with maximizing width, and why we can't just go bigger instead of changing other equipment (cause tires are kind of cheap and easy to install). Please? Thanks. Great content, always.

The reason why its hard to find good information on a subject like that, is because it depends on interpretation of intuition behind the wheel with various setups. Go out, try your ideas. Learn, take notes. Why did the weight not transfer like i was expecting it to on that turn? Spin the car out. Drive beyond its limits, over and over again. Only until then, will you have the information and experience to be able tell why or when different tire widths are appropiate

ZZ632 has 12.0:1 compression ratio..This GayM motor will blow up with little too much boost. It’d have to be fully rebuilt and stroked to low compression for boost. Other wise maybe 1300-1500ish hp with twinscrew supercharger and maybe less than 14 psi. 426 hellephant has 9.5:1 with 15psi of boost from supercharger.. can still handle far more boost with turbos with supercharger still on and make lot more than this high compression GM motor. Even if they stroke the ZZ632 to low compression and run turbos maybe they’ll make near 1600-1800 but hellephant can make that easily.
