CHEVY TAHOE REAR RUSTED BRAKE LINE REPLACEMENT, HOW TO REMOVE A RUSTED BRAKE LINE, HOW TO INSTALL A BRAKE LINE

@RIDEMOR11 ай бұрын
Just did this rear intermediate line on a 2000 Tahoe.Was way easier than most of these videos make it out to be.The hardest part was gettin the old line out.The one hiccup I had was reinstalling the clip on the back where the hard line meets the flex line from the diff.I had to loosen the fitting and re clock it so it would lock into the bracket.I just hooked up a hose and pumped fluid into a jar before I connected it.The small hand held vac pumps work fine for the bleeding.One tip is to make sure your bleeders are good before you proceed.Mine we’re clogged tight.No problem with the tank in and no loosening any body mounts. Great video and thanks for the help…

You do not have to drop the gas tank to run the line from the ABS to the rear end. Remove the wheel well and get the old line out in pieces while opening up the snaps. Once that's off take two four foot length nickel copper lines and put them together. Bend one end to a hook so it will go in the ABS, tape both ends to keep them clean. Snake the line through from the ABS side and push/pull to the rear little by little. The nickel copper lines are flexible enough that it's like a stiff rope so it goes through without too much interference. I had more trouble getting the spare tire off. Just about when you have the line in place ready to attach it will start raining and you can take a lunch like I'm on now. Would have been nice if I had blocked the brake pedal and I could avoid bleeding the whole system so don't forget that when you cut the line near the ABS like someone else commented.
@chewy98ta284 жыл бұрын
Didn't have to bleed the whole system so lucked out there. Just bled out the rear brakes and everything is good. Also you might want to remove the male end of the line that goes in the ABS and put it on the new line before you hook it if it's in good shape and you don't want to use the adapter. I used the adapter cause that was the only line I'm planning on doing while I have it.

Couldn't find any videos online that related to my 03 Tahoe, seems if you have a silverado your good. Thanks for the great camera angles and the attention to detail, i also like that you took alot of the B.S. out of it and got to the point. these guys like to share their life stories on here. im in the Ohio area around sandusky cedar point and if you from Cleveland/Chicago you know how our trucks look. thanks man

That was one scary looking brake line! Was amazed that things came apart as well as they did. I hear Steve's got plans for a HD Leaf Blower... he's one of the few retirees who's actually using his time-off wisely!

Yup I lucked out on that one...I guess in retirement the brain functions at a different level..not sure if that is good or bad but works for him lol

Thank you very much. I just replaced the brake line from ABS to rear. I want to replace all other brake lines that came with the kit. Do you have a video on replacing from ABS to Master cylinder and from ABS to front brakes.... as I've never done this before and you saved me on fixing my Yukon XL I recently purchased. The brake line gave out the next day I bought it lol. Again thanks for this video and the video angles. Excellent.

2006 Yukon rear brake line blown. Replaced the rear one, then ordered a complete set and installed them. I used the Dorman brand off of Amazon. They will last another 12 years or so. They wasn’t pricey. Did a set on a Silverado, built all the lines from rolls of brake line. Don’t do this. Buy them already made up with fittings on them. If you get the right ones for your vehicle they will fit pretty good. A lot better than bending each bend, flaring and gettin new fittings.

Another fantastic vid buddy , some of the best camera action on KZbin. We have better plastic home depot pails up here in Canada that don't deform , back to another engineering change I guess. Were up to STEVE ROB SUCKS 3 now. Cheers

Good camera work! I've done them all on my pick up from front to back. What a pain! I used a crows foot flare nut wrench to get that one you had problem with on the ABS module.
@RICKAFIX8 жыл бұрын
I had the crows foot on back up just in case I couldn't get it...thanks.. hope you feeling better
@johndevito11624 жыл бұрын
You did a helluva job, but I think the brake line nuts are 9/16" not 15mm.
@jeremysmith37296 жыл бұрын
Nice Camerawork - FWIW, it is less risky rounding off the fittings if you use the proper 9/16 wrench instead of the 15mm. I think the original lines were made out of factory seconds of Reynolds Wrap.

Why not use Nickle Copper line and rout it to an easier path to the back. You can bend Nicop by hand without kinking the line. It sure seems it would be easier than snaking it past all those wires and obstacles to get it to the rear connection. Why even take out the old line just route around it.
@tobinsatterwhite95168 жыл бұрын
for anyone doing this job and doesn't have a stubby 15 mm wrench you can switch back and forth with a regular 15mm wrench and a 9/16 flare wrench to tighten that fitting into the ABS module. it's tedious but it gets the job done. other than that follow this video to the T and you will get the job done. I did! also eBay has this brake line kit for $69
@rogerw21014 жыл бұрын
Awesome video. Thanks . What is the diameter of the line 3/8 or 5/16

From looking at the line it 1/4. Most of those trucks use 1/4 brake lines. My 01 Yukon uses 1/4 brake line.

thanks man followed your video 2 the T. I just removed the brake line on my Tahoe because I had a leak in the same spot as you did I did have to remove the fuel filter for better access to that fitting. my brake line kit should be here tomorrow any advice on fish in it to the front

ummmm I would buy the kit and also the tubing and see which one is easier to install...the tubing might be easier but it will take awhile...remove the inner wheel well to make it easier very simple to take off...

Idk how he ever got the master cylinder bleed that way with the bleeder kit you suppose to run the bleeder lines up into the the fluid so when you let the pedal up it draws fluid not air.

So you used the same fittings but with new lines right? Sorry about the typo
@RICKAFIX8 жыл бұрын
h22sparkle yes that is correct...I bought the kit from Chevy for 113.00 and just used the rear brake line and have the other 3 brake lines still in the box...you could buy the brake line and fittings and flare them yourself but it's a pain in the ass so I just sucked it up and paid the 113

What is the part number for the brake line?
@sixpacksandsrts91228 жыл бұрын
Nik- copper line. 25 ft. No tools needed. It bends with your fingers. Will never rust. Can get a roll and fitting kit for 75. And best stuff to use.
@RICKAFIX8 жыл бұрын
Now that is interesting
@kenman17178 жыл бұрын
its not recommended to use copper line for brakes. brake line is double walled to withstand braking pressures, copper line is only single walled, that's why its soft, and it won't withstand the pressures very long.
@sixpacksandsrts91228 жыл бұрын
+kenman1717 Lmao. Come on man. Ever hear of Google. No one said use copper. What was mentioned was nicopp line. It is brake line made from nickel and copper mixed. It's new technology my man. Check it out
