the video was great. I think you can lube it while it is on the truck. Lot of work to save $30. The motor is not expensive from 1a auto

I just got done with my rebuild after watching your video twice. My gear shaft had two bushing sleeves on it when it came out. Thirty minutes of soaking them in Liquid Wrench loosened them right up. I used 400 grit sandpaper to break Un the corrosion on the inside of the housing and liberal Liquid Wrench it came clean as could be. I lubed the shaft and bushings with marine wheel bearing grease and put her all back together with surprisingly no extra parts. Low and behold she is back to chooching. Running a little slow as far as I’m concerned. Shade Tree Mechanic First Class. Thanks for the help.

This is a great three-part tutorial. Was having the same issues. Tried the grounding strap which did not work. I took the motor out and disassembled the gear shaft as you did. I had to hit it with a hammer to get it out. When I removed the shaft, two bushings were around it, one was touching the gear and was free to move, and the other towards the end of the shaft and rusted on. Had to put in a vice to loosen it. Greased everything up and reassembled. Works again. Another thing to watch out for is the wiring harness that comes out of the body to the liftgate. Saw another great video on that as well. Opening and closing wears out the wires over time. Thanks again. God Bless.

This is good stuff. My 04 might have the same issue, squirter works but wiper don't. Ill check to see if its trying like you did & if so its coming apart and ill follow this video. My rear lock actuator is bad too I think. Doesn't open up with power locks, lol. I've fell in love with my Tahoe so I want to fix all this stuff. Thank you!

Mine is a couple years older and has a different parking device, but the problem wasn't a crusty shaft; on the circuit board, there is a coil that had a poor solder connection. What clued me in to it was my ability to make it run if I turned the power on and banged the tailgate. A quick solder job and it works fine.

Your video gave me an idea. Without removing the motor, only the blade arm, I saturated the area with WD- 40. 12 hours later, the motor came to life again. Note: there's a small notch/groove at the tip of the shaft that allows the lubricant to to enter the shaft which most likely unseized it. Worked for me. Worth a try.

Will this work also on my 2007 Tahoe? I hsbe the issue, that my motor needed 2 up to 4 hits with the switch on my steering wheel. Than he works. But now he was stopping in the first half of my resr window and want move. Think i should remove him onf go step by step like your video to see if i can reactivate him. Last would be if he not works again, to replace him.

That's some surgery! I'd just do one more test on the bench to see if it works before putting it back in the truck. Those "non switcher" Astron supplies are great!

Good job man. Very detailed and well thought out. It looks like you are very versed in electrical troubleshooting. Are you an electrical engineer? Also where did you get that 12 volt power supply tester? I noticed it reads "Seven Forty One" Is this something you created?

Thanks! I'm a low-level electrical engineer I guess...I've been working in electronics manufacturing for 30 years but don't really design circuits like an EE would. I created the pseudo circuit board nameplate glued to the power supply but not the supply itself.

I replaced the motor on my 04 with a new motor still no wiper action. I picked up a switch for the dash from LKQ and the washer fluid sprays but still NO wiper action. Any suggestions?

Check the black thick ground wire in the top right hand corner by the hatch hinge.. there’s a rubber grommet covering a grey connector and in that connector there is a ground wire that somehow burns out right next to a little pink wire. This was the overall problem for me. I was wondering why my truck kept dying out every once in a while.

1. the bracket could have been left attached to the tailgate body and the two screws holding it to the motor could have been removed instead. 2. When re-attaching the bracket, it's not necessary to look for stamped writing on the bracket in order to determine the correct reinstallation position; the screw head imprints will suffice to show this. 3. You may possibly save a step or two by, instead of unsoldering and resoldering, simply bend the cover back at the flexible soldered tabs. 4. With the time you have invested in this whole process, depending on how much value someone places on his time, it's far cheaper to just order a replacement from RockAuto and simply do an R&R. In other words, this motor is serviceable but, in practical terms, it's a throwaway.

way toooooo much work. i rather just try some wd-40 in area or it just not work. only used it maybe 5 times in almost 20 yrs
