Is there a difference in the oil pan screw...i hv a 2013 the nut tip on the end is so fragile it strips the nut end not the threads...and i hv to buy a new oil pan screw every time...i know it a 10mm but the nut end os smaller than the whole screw itself...i hv to use a socket for strip nut to get it out....what other screw can i use?

Thank you for the video. I had so many problems trying to get my oil changed today. The nut on the oil plug nearly stripped off. The oil filter wouldnt fit properly into the housing. I accidentally snapped off the prongs on the oil filter and took it back to the store along with the cap. They explained there were two different types of filters and you have to get the one that snaps into your cap. Both me and the guy at the store were completely perplexed when we found that information out.

I always use a box end wrench on the drainpan because sometimes a socket can rock sideways a little under stress as it is when you are loosening it and over time it gets rounded off. I put the boxend wrench on and hold my thumb over the opening to hold it in place and it works very well for me.

There's a rubber baffle in the 2016 Trax oil filler neck.. You can lift the baffle up slightly and use a funnel easily. Great video man. 2 thumbs up.

@@ChadWilliamsFixesAll That's good! The only drawback to using a funnel is don't pour to fast because the oil drains slowly into the engine! And then it pours down the front of the engine! I learned the hard way! Take care enjoyed the video!

Thank you for this video. After changing the Trax's oil, NOWHERE in the owner's manual does GM explain where the FULL mark is on the generic, made for world-wide use dipstick. No "E" or "F"....just hash marks. You explained quite well where FULL is. Sometimes it's the little things that make the difference. :)

24mm socket for oil filter housing fits much better. They even make a specific socket for the oil filter housing.

Worth mentioning: There's Dexos i, Dexos ii, and Dexos Gen 2. Dexos Gen 2 is the improved version of Dexos i, but Dexos ii is for diesel engines. It's a little confusing.

People don't double check this, and engines get bad rep. Use only the correct oil - Dexos I Gen 2. Never Dexos II.

I changed the oil on my daughters trex. You can use a flat head to remove o-ring from oil filter can but you run the risk of damaging the threads. My choice of tool is a 90deg pick. Just my opinion

Hi, so I did changed the oil filter and I noticed a small spring attach to a small fitting but new filter didn’t bring that and I didn’t see you showed nothing about that, I have a Buick Encore 2018, so is not necessary to used or replace that small spring in my car ?

24mm socket. Go to Advance or Auto Zone, tell them what vehicle you own and tell them you need a 24mm oil filter socket. Trust me you want to use the right socket because that oil filter housing is plastic and you do not want to break or strip it.

Start engine let it run for 30 seconds ( to fill oil filter ) shut it off then check oil levels.

The socket sizes were in the video, but, here they are again. 15/16 socket for the oil filter cap. 10 mm for the oil drain plug. I got my tool set from Craftsman, but places like Harbor Freight is a good alternative. I would recommend a nice set of plastic ramps like I have. They are strong and durable. Yes you can use Mobil fully synthetic oil as long as its dexos approved.

About the funnel hay to each his own but I like to keep my car as clean as I can I’m old and it will probably be my last car I buy, it now just turned to 20,000 miles. This will be my first oil change I’ve done , the dealer has done the two pryer changes so it is helpful for me to watch this first . The only problem I have with my car is when I hit bumps it makes a sound on the passenger side like it’s a lose shock absorber . Dealer was unable to find the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried using just the generic one listed in the book and it broke trying to snap it in there. I went back and they told me you had to get the type for the cap and I had no problem getting the second one to snap in.

I always dunk the o ring into new oil before I install it on the cap. Kills me you rubbed old oil on the o ring. To each his own I guess.

Blue shop towels work best. Cloth can leave lint, and you do not want that in your engine.

Better than the 10mm that on the trax . If you use anything other than a 6 point socket you will strip the plug .
