It's the small things that really make it work, and you never just gloss over them expecting them to be obvious. You're a great instructor, thanks for the videos

Just learned last class, that you want to keep your arms on the inside when they have you in full mount. I was bad about trying to hug them and keep them close, my instructor told me last night, “your making it worse when you hug”. I realized I was actually helping them put more weight on myself by “hugging”. I like how you call it the white belt hug, because that’s what I am and that’s exactly what I was doing. I’m excited for next class, makes sense why I was so out of breath when I get mounted. Thanks.

I like this type of instruction. At first all the different techniques are overwhelming. I never find myself in the specific position to use the techniques I learn or my partner never reacts the way I wanted. These simple rules or flows help remind us how to roll while effectively while we learn and drill all the techniques we are learning on the side.

Hi Chew, thanks for the video. You mentioned that once your arms are tight and inside near his waist it's very hard to be submitted. But every time I make a frame and use my elbow/wrists near his waist level, he just goes for the chokes and forces me to bring my arms back up high to defend the choke. What am I doing wrong?

thanks for accepting my request chewjitsu this is the thing i struggle with most is escaping grapevines with an arm isolated my actual mount escapes are quite good its just that specific control against guys similar to my size that was a problem for me this is more or less what i was referring to so this is much appreciated

Hey Chewy, my coach always says to never hook the foot with the grapevines... Cuz when the bottom guy starts to escape, it can put massive pressure on your ACL. Thoughts?

Gogoplata from rubber guard, guillotine, triangle, maybe even head and arm choke if you're a beefy strong person. I usually just sweep and work my top game.

Chewi, You should do a video about how it feels for a beginner to watch a Brown or Black Belt Demo. Nietzsche has a great quote that explains it... "And if you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss gazes back into you."

Anyone have any tips for avoiding cramps in your upper legs while rolling? It happens every time I roll and to be honest it's embarrassing having to stop because of it. I'm always fully hydrated and do some stretches some I'm not sure why it keeps happening. It's always the same leg same spot also

@Chewjitsu4 жыл бұрын
Mawhinney 2.1 how do you mean?
@mawhinney2.1964 жыл бұрын
A better way to describe it would be the initial phase in rolling, when both me and my opponent are going at each other, I would always try to initially control their hips with my feet, and in doing this I concede side control, and from there it's an uphill battle

One of the main strengths of BJJ is that you can roll without receiving a major injury, I would have a look around your gym to see if it's a BJJ gym/school, or a gym that offers BJJ inspired workouts. Then from there, you can make a decision about how you want to proceed. It would be very strange for a BJJ school to not encourage rolling.

Chewy or all....So tonight I rolled with black belts and brown and purple belts... I held my own Even catching a few submissions until I gassed out from working all day ( digging ditches) when I started gassing out and I knew they clearly could toy with me I purposely put myself in bad positions at my worst moments like made them go knee on belly or told them to take my back and make me fight when I can't really push the pace... What do you think is that the correct approach ?

ask your instructor why this is happening. In my experience, I would not try to frame the hips if the top person gets a hand in my collar. Instead I would be switching escapes to the upa.
