As someone who didn't have a dog in the lottery, I find it very amusing that Bedard, from Vancouver and presumably a Canucks fan, ends up with a team that he and other Canucks fans had an intense rivalry with due to several playoff matchups during his young lifetime, and thus likely don't think too highly of.

Shame we traded away DeBrincat, Strome, and Dach. They would have been integral pieces to add to Bedard for the rebuild.

Initially, I was thinking the same way, but: 1. Alex DeBrincat would have commanded a very steep price and a significant chunk of the salary cap. Not sure he would have been worth it without Patrick Kane on his line. 2. Dach was expendable and was a 6' 4" body who played as if he were 5' 9". He had little net front presence, was not very quick or fast and, worst of all, he was dreadful on winning faceoffs, one of the worst amongst NHL centers. 3. Strome was a chronic underachiever, never playing up to or reaching his potential. Again, many better options at the salary he would have commanded. I WOULD like to see the Blackhawks resign Max Domi as an UFA and try to bring back Sam Lafferty from Toronto or resign him when he becomes a free agent in 2024.

The amazing thing about this that I don't think anyone realized is that as soon as Columbus fell to #3, it was over. Only one team could move up, and when the Hawks did there was no drama with two teams left.
