At the end of the day, the Canadian (and American) government doesn't work for the people. They work for corporations. That's why we are among the worst among industrialized countries when it comes to food regulations. Go to Europe, Australia and even some South American countries and you'll be shocked at how much better the quality of their food is, even in the same fast food restaurants we have here. We have extremely low standards and companies take full advantage of it. That's why I shake my head when my friends and family say I'm too picky, for simply demanding that my food be of high quality. I can't believe Canadians think that's an elitist mentality. It should be standard.

Barley, Pasta and parboiled rice are low as well. Way cheaper too. Hippies just make excuses for it because of the super food label. Only a small percentage of the population are buying it for that reason.

@@whiskerbiscuit6674 well rice only stays good for 24 or 48 hours. Quinoa can stay ok for a week. So it can be cheaper and takes less time to cook than rice. Not only that, it has all the amino acids a person needs, so it is quite nutritious. Also, it is not a grain but more closely related to beets, believe it or not.

I remember being stunned when I found out that the South African government was setting out regulations on what can be labelled as coffee. Until that moment I had vaguely assumed that coffee was coffee, with varying percentages of the bean content. The regulations were specifying how much bean content you needed in a mixture you could call coffee, and what adding chicory to the mix meant. I guess we as consumers can't take our labeling and the claims that are being made for granted.

I've just discovered this show (Marketplace) by the CBC tonight. I live in the USA (Ohio), and what got my attention was the Farmer's Market video. I'm not sure if Ohio is as regulated as CA is, but I'm definitely going to keep all those tips in mind. Then this video really highlights what I already believed about "Super Foods", and that it's all marketing & hype. Thanks for being so informative, and I'll be watching more I'm sure tonight. LOL 😊

I live in the U.K. I bought vita Coco and on the first sip, I spat it out on the supermarket floor. Everyone was shocked of course. It’s the weirdest thing I have ever tasted. It is sugar, water and a bunch of preservatives with coconut flavour. I am from the Caribbean, I drink the water straight from the nut. 😀

As a Floridian (I would say "American" since our country has no name) I am VERY impressed with this woman's journalism and report. I am ashamed to say we have no factual reporting in this country anywhere at least on TV. What a good idea she had to get the blonde Trainer lady, she knew her stuff about how the body metabolizes, etc., so she went to the best. This is not the yellow journalism with an the tone of some agenda, this girl thought this out and produced a unbiased, level headed presentation. She did some WORK and earned her pay. Here the news channels are told what to say verbatim from coast to coast. I will probably binge watch to get a little more informed!

Coconut water is no stranger to me since I was born in Hong Kong, a price for a young coconut is only less than $2 CAD. That explain coconut water is one of the usual drink we can have over there. Its taste is little nicer than tap water, having electrolyte which help you get your balance back to normal; which also explain why you will feel less thirsty if you consume coconut water. However, at the end, your hydration will be the same if you give enough time to let your body to absorb water/coconut. Btw, the coconut water I buy only cost me $1 for a 500ml can (100% pure coconut water), since it is literally the same, why spend more with those in 1 litre package for more than $4? Keep in mind that coconut water is for getting hydrated in shorter time period, but replacing it with water is not making any sense.
@kkatherinee96097 жыл бұрын
MingWLee why spend $4? Because that’s how much it costs. You don’t have coconut trees just randomly growing in Canada or eg. Europe

What I was trying to say is, don't fall for what the company are trying to tell you. Whether it is food, drinks, clothing or else, we are the one who is paying for them. Almost every merchandise will go on sale at some point each year, if you can handle your urge to buy these products, wait till it is on sale. On the other hand, there are lots of brand you can buy and getting the same product you desire to have! This buying strategy will save you loads of money, with that extra in your pocket, you can get yourself some treat from time to time. We have to be smarter as customer or we will fall from all the 'sweet talk' from the company's advertisement ;)

Tap water HAS ELECTROLYTES. Most people don't even need to worry about electrolytes. They just help your cells balance their water content. If you eat food, you get enough of them. Also if you've passed at least grade 8 in Ontario you should know this...

That chlorine is removed. Many bottled water also has chlorine. But you know what's much worse for you? The chemicals the water bottle is made of. Same with the filters. They are made from plastic, which is dirty for the planet to produce.

Tender coconut water from coconut trees ( not packaged) is rich in electrolytes, especially potassium. It’s traditionally given to rehydrate patients with mild to moderate diarrhea or vomiting. It does not replace water, it’s a rehydrating drink on a hot summer day.

Salmon is one of the fishes with the least heavy metal. Fishes on the top of ocean food chain, like swordfish, marlin, and albacore, has way more mercury. Salmon on the other hand is generally fine if you eat two portions a week. Don't be tricked by facebook articles and think they are real science.
@MM-nk6wz4 жыл бұрын
Firstly, chia seeds are indigestible unless ground up. Secondly, chia seeds contain ALA which is an omega 3 that must be converted to EPA/DHA before it can be utilized. This conversion is very inefficient. Salmon and other fatty fish like mackerel and even grass fed beef contains EPA/DHA in the proper form. Plant foods do not.

her argument about the protein in quinoa being less than chicken is bad. Chicken is not the same as a grain , isn't the point to eat quinoa to eat a fiber WITH your chicken\protein, and to get more protein in your meal? She said that you sacrifice the protein in a potato, so i still think quinoa will bring more protein in your plate, as a side. They should have compared it to another GRAIN, pasta, rice, etc.
