Jacob, looking at that ballistics chart he posted earlier, it seemed to be showing that the biggest performance deficit was in barrels below 4". After 4", the gains from extra length begin to diminish. But between, 2 & 4 inches, the increase is very sharp. It is as if the 357 round wants a barrel length of at least 4". However, i have never tried tried to CC a 4" revolver. Don't know how much more inconvenient it would be. But according to that chart, it would probably perform much better than the 2".

+Nukleon Well... Emilio Ghisoni designed the MaTeBa (Macchine Termo Balistiche, Thermo-Ballistic Machinery) revolvers (several models actually, although the Autorevolver is the one that got more, albeit limited, success), Antonio Cudazzo developed the basic idea of the Rhino and patented its features together with Ghisoni. The Rhino design was offered to a few manufacturers and Chiappa took it on board. Others who had ideas similar to Ghisoni's were the Russians, they developed some more traditional revolvers firing from hour 6 chamber; parallel development in the period of Ghisoni's first prototypes.

I have a construction analogy for you all, from a building construction point of view, which is inherently all about design, eh? That is, we hang sheetrock all day long and we use guns to accomplish the task, and although they are powered by electricity, not powder, there is an important similarity. It is ergonomics. Try driving screws all day long with a conventional drill motor, with a conventional tee handle, and you will soon become exhausted, and not by the work but rather the task of speed and accuracy as its design seems to be intended to fight you. Now grab a Screwrunner. A tool designed to drive screws through sheetrock into studs all day long. The first thing you notice is that it is designed to drive the screws from your palm. That is, in any gun design meant to drive a projectile, it seems more natural and efficient from the palm, not the wrist. I respect that David slew Goliath from the wrist, but had David a self-propelled projectile, I believe he would have preferred the Rhino.

@harrybiikini35616 жыл бұрын
It doesn't have "a 2-inch barrel", it has a 2 inch wheel AND a 2 inch barrel. So compared to autos, you're getting more barrel length in similar sized guns. The revolver will lose some of it's pressure after the cylinder, but by then, that bullet is already at a pretty high speed. Many more factors to look at, but in short we can state that revolvers shoot at higher speeds than autoloaders. Peace

Someone did think of firing from the bottom cylinder before. Emilio Ghisoni, the guy who designed this gun, had several previous designs that worked like that. He was the owner of Mateba, a company that made the most bizzare (and cool) revolvers ever, and they all fired from the bottom cylinder. His whole thing is that he loves magnum revolvers, but wanted to engineer one with the lowest possible felt recoil. His first attempts with the Mateba worked, in a sense, but they were horribly over complicated, fragile and expensive. In his quest for the lowest possible recoil, he even designed a series of Mateba Autorevolvers. They're cool as shit, but they're also expensive as shit, and given that they were an answer to a question no one asked, Mateba quickly went broke and these days Matebas are ultra rare and expensive. The Autorevolvers are so rare and fragile, many owners won't shoot them, because if something breaks there's a chance that there are no parts in existence anywhere in the world. Ghisoni went on to design the Rhino which looks a lot like the Mateba, but is much less complex and more robust.

Nifty little gun, however I would be concerned to carry it due to the modified grip; in a high stress, high tension environment you may not have time to modify your grip correctly, not to mention the fact that the pain from the escaped gas could completely throw off your aim. That being said, if you made this a carry gun you would train extensively I would imagine.

this was my major concern. I think it's an awesome firearm, but that point concerns me

Alexander High gloves, maybe?

you're not going to be wearing gloves at a random instance where you'd need a compact gun. Especially if you're a civilian.

Im going to go out on a limb here and say that your not going to feel a little burn due to adrenaline in said situation. You could probably blow off part of your finger (not that it would happen in this case) in a firefight and not realize it at all until its over.

I like it. It reminds me of the chic in the show Covert Affairs. She had a shiny version.

One of the only good looking revolvers in my opinion.

i would like to argue that point very well. there are several revolvers out there that are very sexy.

I have a 3-inch rhino and I think it's amazing. I still carry my 686 more, but not necessarily because its "better", I just like it more in an intangible way.

why isnt the nagant mechanism used for higher savety since you can get burned realy easily?

Adds a lot of weight to the trigger pull because of the additional work needed to move the cylinder. - James

I want this gun for concealed carry, is that a reasonable expectation from this pretty lil revolver?

There was a revolver manufactured with not only a bottom barrel but also was semi auto, not double action actual semi auto fire, looks great too but quite rare now.

there HAVE been bottom cylinder firing revolvers. Take a look at the Mateba unica model 6, or the 2006m (I think that's what it's called)

+Jason Mendiola The bore axis is different. The internals are totally different. And the same inventor invented both. The Rhino was the last major invention he came up with before he died, which is likely why there haven't been any follow up innovations like alternate calibers, frame sizes or remodelled designs for more classical shooters. It is, unfortunately, a tiny bit of a dead-end because Chiappa rarely does anything truly ground breaking normally.

I don't know why no one ever thought to move the barrel to the bottom of a revolver. the equation for torque is force times distance from the pivot point so obviously lowering the barrel would reduce muzzle climb. I'm surprised no physicist ever said that to any manufacturer.

The mateba has a barrel at the bottom cylinder years before. Also it’s a semi auto revolver. Really cool design

Unique, but the design was overly complex and thus expensive to manufacture. Magazine fed pistols were just more practical and less expensive. You can still buy them brand new today for example, but is it worth $3K to you?

My wife has been wanting a (standard) revolver for carrying purposes, and I personally have not really had any interest in owning or carrying a revolver myself. While looking at various models for her I came across this ugly little thing, and after reading and watching some reviews your review has finally convinced me. This will be the next carry firearm I buy for myself.
