@@OldManMontgomery I have a bigger problem with missing 11 shots then I do shooting the same person 12 times I see absolutely no problem with that there’s been many people who have been shot that many times and lived there’s definitely been people who got shot 12 times and didn’t immediately die so if it takes 12 I see no problem with that. With the cost of ammo these days I’m definitely not looking to waste anymore then I need to so if 1 does the trick that just saved me $15 if not fuck it I got a couple dollars to blow.

Not to sound like a boomer, but I think that revolvers look kind of ugly if they aren’t blued, and have wood grips. Rubber grips are really ugly, although I do recognize that they can probably absorb more energy, and be more comfortable to shoot than a wooden grip. I don’t know why blueing seems to be less common among revolvers now though.

Smith & Wesson 632-2 chambered in .327 Federal Magnum, 6 shot air frame, and it shoots .327 Fed Mag, .32 H&R Mag, and a couple of other .32 caliber rounds including .32 ACP in a pinch. .32 ACP is semi-rimless so it will shoot from a .327 Magnum. Ruger's SP101 in .327 or their LCR in .327 are also fun. The Chiappa is a fun little pistol. I have an old carbon steel frame Colt Detective Special and a Colt alloy frame Agent, 2.125 inch barrel snub nose revolvers reamed from .38 Special to .357 Magnum, and I have yet to blow one up. My personal favorite? The Colt Magnum Carry. Prepare to pay $4000 or so for the Magnum Carry .357 Colt. It is (WAS) essentially a modernized Detective Special built to handle .357.

I only have one Revolver from your list, the Ruger GP100. Mine is a 1998 6 shot model which I bought used slightly over 5 years ago. I've shot well over 1500 combined rounds of .38 Spl and .357 Mag with it, and it's one of my listed Duty Weapons on my permit. I love her, and she gets shot almost every time I shoot!!! I'm always on the lookout for a reasonably priced used Chiappa Rhino with the 3" or 4" barrel. I've fired a few friend's Rhinos on numerous occasions and I like the way it feels and shoots. I already own two Chiappa Revolvers which I thoroughly enjoy, both 1873 SAA models, a 10 shot .22LR with a 7.5" barrel and a .45LC with the 4.75" barrel. Though not a good choice for Self-defense, SAA Revolvers are amazingly fun to shoot!!!

Maybe the best weird Smith that they don't make anymore is the 386 Series. I bought one used that had a 4 inch undercut barrel and 7 round .357 titanium cylinder. Fiber optic front sight and a scandium L frame. It was marketed as the modern replacement for the Model 19/66, but it only lasted on the market for a year and a half before Smith pulled it. Mine was a joy to shoot but I made the mistake of letting my daughter shoot it. It became her backcountry hiking gun.

None of them have ever really seemed worth the extra price to me. Even the Rhino seems to be a neat gun that doesn't do enough that is unique to justify the price. If I'm going to carry a revolver concealed, I'll deal with the reduced power of .38 Special and increased weight of a steel cylinder to carry a Smith & Wesson 642 or 642 Airweight. I've made up the term "discrete carry" for places where I don't need to be truly concealed but don't want to be as obvious as open carry would be. For places like that, I've often thought of buying and carrying something like a Ruger SP101 with a 4.2 inch barrel in .357 Magnum. That would be a tough gun to conceal, but it wouldn't be as heavy as GP100. Five rounds of .357 Magnum would be an effective argument against many dangers. I wouldn't plan to put tens of thousands of full magnum rounds through the gun. Even if the gun could handle that service, my hands would not be happy. For places where I want to be a little discrete but have some power, I've always thought that this combination had value. I really enjoyed hearing about the 10mm GP100 because I could see that gun fitting that "discrete carry" niche. The gun would weigh more, but in places where I wanted more power than I could get from .38 Special or even .357 Magnum, the extra power would be worth the cost of the extra weight. If my healthy hadn't failed, I'd have been hiking in bear country in Wyoming. I was thinking of getting the 4-inch SP101 for that scenario. The 3-inch, 10mm GP100 would be a better choice. I'll never be in a position to afford this gun or even have a good use for this gun. Even so, I appreciate knowing that it exists. In many ways, this gun fills the niche that .41 Magnum used to fill. The difference is that 10mm ammunition is more available these days (or at least going forward after the current shortage) than .41 Magnum is. The ability to shoot .40 S&W adds further to the ammo availability advantage. This revolver would also combine well with a 10mm carbine. Again, that was a great choice for this list. Thank you!

I have an SP101 3". I had a very good trigger job done on it. It is like butter. That extra sight radius really helps. Also, in a pancake leather OWD holster, lays completely flat, and is very concealed. Sure, not my go to the city carry gun (live way out in the country in Texas), but, to the nearest town to buy supplies, it is fine. I want a 3", six shot 44spl revolver. Someone should make that gun. Use modern light weight materials, and put a decent front sight on it. That is a wonderful cartridge if you handload.

The Rhino is the only one that's truly "weird" due to its design. That said, I'd go with number five since the reality is that if I'm ever going to need to shoot in self-defense outside of my home then things will likely be very up-close and personal so something like that is fine.

I knew where you were going. The 327, despite it's advantages, is still a weird looking painted pony chunk. I would love to have the Ruger. A stub 686 7 shot is probably about the same size. Love the idea of the Rhino low bore axis and the flatted cylinder. Love to have one. Still weird looking. Sigh, I have to stick with my J Frames and small autos.

My perceived advantage of a revolver over an autoloader is the independence from extra integral components to make the machine operate. All I need is the gun and the ammo, nothing more. So to my mind, if the gun requires another part, such as a moon clip, then I might as well have an autoloader with a magazine that is sturdier and holds more rounds.

*_Good News!!!_* Arizona has a statewide Second Amendment Sanctuary bill that just passed the House and is on the way to the Senate. I cannot add links without being censored so I recommend all Arizonan's seek out the Gun Owners of America site and search for *"Arizona Sanctuary".* Follow the simple instructions and act accordingly. It is literally a minimum of two mouse clicks and your form is complete at its most basic level. However, feel free to add in your own verbiage (keep it clean and civil) so it does not get glossed over as just another 'cut & paste' template from GOA. Please and Thank You. Now is our chance to make our great state No. 48 a Second Amendment Sanctuary _State._ Not just a single county, township or city - _but the entire state!_ Stay classy my friends. In addition: I would like to add the Smith & Wesson TRR8 and R8 to this list of unique revolvers. EDITED for follow up commentary.

Speaking of censored as soon as I came up on good news an ad popped up and made me find this again, I'm glad I have some family talking about going there. I'm off to montana they already had those laws. Colorado is going in the wrong direction but they have me until montana starts recreational sales, Arizona the police can disarm you simply for carrying. At least for now Colorado has it in law that if you are carrying and doing so safely and lawfully the police may not stop you and ask questions about your gun or disarm you simply because somebody was uncomfortable with you having a gun, I've read to many stories about somebody walking down the street in Arizona being detained and disarmed for nothing and the person not being able to do anything about it because no lawyer would help their broke ass and I quote "because there was no case"

S&W needs to bring back the Models 242 and 296, which they made for only a couple years back around 2000, so they're really rare. They were a seven-shot .38 Special and a five-shot .44 Special on an aluminum/scandium L frame with an internal DAO hammer just like the J-frame centennial model. Add a 286 model in 9mm with moon clips and give it night sights and you'd have the "murdered out" concealed-carry revolver that James is describing.

I own and carry both the S&W PD and the Chiappa Rhino 200DS (with Chiappa's ultra rare factory "stage 1" trigger job that they don't even offer any more). Love both, but I carry the ultralight S&W PD more because it's so damn light. Recoil isn't bad in either if you use milder 357. Plus, the S&W has aftermarket laser grips available to make aiming wayyy easier while the Chiappa does not. BUT the S&W restricts you to bullets of no less than 120 grains. So if you want to use ultralight ammo (like Liberty or ARX, etc) ya can't or it will cause cylinder erosion of the titanium.
