I definitely wasn’t expecting Rudeus to have trouble there. It’s likely his ongoing depression over Eris is preventing him from enjoying life. Thats the thing, depression is not something you get out in a short span of time, some people take years just healing their psyche and that involves a lot being in an environment that is supportive, if you see, Rudy has been isolated for long time and even with counter arrow, he was coping and trying to copy them, the way he smiled and all was just an imitation of timothy, Soldat instead, is being the actual reinforcement he sorta needed, someone who can come and tell him "no bro, you are bottling it up, let it out, lets do this and get it off the chest" and give him actual advice for now, its a slow process and anime at times sell it short for how hard it can be

My interpretation of Rudeus right now is that this is how he should have felt on the Demon Continent. Rudeus bottled most of his fear, regret, and pain up to protect Eris. That's why to her, he appeared so strong. In reality, he was a man on a mission, but now that the mission is over and Rudeus feels abandoned, he is crumbling under the pressure daily life. He never actually dealt with the trauma that was far worse on the Demon Continent. Rudeus was killed and resurrected by Orsted, then pretty much shrugged it of like it was just another Tuesday.

As a man, I can see why Rudy might not have been able to perform. He was so caught up in his thoughts and concerns that his mind wasn't there in the moment. Despite Sara being fully exposed in front of him, mentally he just wasn't there. He was worrying about whether or not he said the right things or is doing the right things; thinking about Eris (probably having flashbacks to their first time); worried about whether Sara really liked him or not. Point is dude was so lost in his thoughts that he couldn't focus and enjoy the moment, which translates to his body not being aroused by Sara. It's not that he's not into her, or that he doesn't find her attractive but I can see how women could perceive it that way. And that's not even including his fear of abandonment. After everything he's been through it's understandable he might be afraid to engage a woman thinking they will also leave him or not like him for who he really is, which would also explain his fake persona.

Volume 7 is fine. Not the most important of all, since the arc wasn't present in the web novel and it's been skipped in the manga, but it's still an important part of Rudeus' journey. These three episodes have covered just enough to properly convey the story, and I commend the studio for their excellent work. Edit: for those who complain about me mentioning the manga, I agree that it's bad, but what is explained in Volume 7 is also reiterated in later volumes. Not only that, but compared to characters and events that appear in later volumes, Volume 7 features characters and events that are almost forgotten later in the story. 1:33 oh yeah, I already saw one reactor saying that Rudy is pathetic, saying that he was gonna end all just because of one girl. Shame, LN readers will be quick also to say that it's because the anime didn't direct it well, so some people won't get it, but I'm an anime-only at this point in the story, and I really got why Rudy wanted to kill himself. He's in a really dark place in his life right now. He feels like everything he's done has gone wrong. His original purpose of going there - finding his mom, he still hasn't succeeded. And then of course, his main source of depression, Eris. It's basically confirmed through his conversation with Soldat that he has been thinking that Eris left him because he was bad in bed, and that in turn made him subconsciously afraid to get in bed with Sara, whom she didn't really bond with emotionally all that long in the first place. Having E.D. is a huge blow to a man. That's losing your manhood. I remember having a conversation with my friend, just joking around, asking hypotheticals like, what if your dick gets cut off? and we both agreed that there's no point to living life if that happens. As much meme as people are making, this series hits so hard. Especially for an isekai of all things. Both Sara and Rudy are simultaneously at fault and not at fault. The situation is just truly unlucky. Especially for how young and inexperienced they are. Everything Rudy feel is a culmination of so many things. Eris isn't JUST a girl he likes. She's someone who he genuinely felt close like family. They've been through so much shit together, especially with the teleportation incident. Though initially seen as just a potential "female" love interest pre-teleportation, the development the two had was great, to the point where he outright felt uncomfortable at Eris's advances. And then all of this just to get abandoned with little no explanation, after all the things they've said and do. It's rare for me to feel this invested in characters, the story and its world building. Everyone feels so "human". No one is perfect and they're all fucked in some ways while not entirely being bad. Nothing is ever black and white. I love Rudy and his journey of self discovery. It's so hard for me to recommend this as one of my favorite anime of all time when the average person takes everything in at face value and with such narrow mind set. IDK how the series does it, but I find it hard for anything to top this for me. That's enough ranting for today LOL

All this nuances that this ep added to rudy's character for me make It the best ep of this 2nd szn, and the animation went really all out in the character acting of those importante moments of Sara and Rudy on the bed, bar fight and the final minutes. Giving that It finished this first arc have to say this szn in terms of animation prowess is not at the same level of the 1st one, however they still nailed the importante scene, the direction is still great. And taking about this arc when It was talked about in the community a saw a lot people that said It was a filler arc,and I have hardly disagree with that cause It seems important if not for everything at least this depressed side of Rudy cause is layered in not being the same as his past Life, but a lot patrons of negativity are in his head but with the leasson he leanered in this second chance trying to be better but still being in this mis of a mental state and giving this tiny Hope with Counter Arrow and Sara to almost seem like he is moving on but see he has still govern by fear of that loneliness and even almost attempt su* *cide, is very heart reaching as well as interesting really enjoyed this arc and looking forward how they adapt the Next conetent

There's a lot in this episode and the stuff Rudy goes through is real stuff, things like this happen ALL THE TIME, i HIGHLY recommend watching a channel called Psyculturists, he's a Therapist that watches anime and analysis it, now today's episode wont be uploaded for a day or so but when it comes out everybody should watch it as he thoroughly explains the real world psychology of this episode and it's very eye opening, not only that but most of the time he can accurately predict stuff later on in a series JUST off of character interactions and hints in the animation alone (for example he was predicting Rudy's ED situation last episode, and no he's not a LN reader or manga reader and the chat is moderated to stay Spoiler Free) Now as for my personal thoughts on the episode i do wish they included Sara's POV because it adds a lot but the episode itself was really good even considering the fact that there's a lot missing compared to the LN. As for the moment he goes, without hesitation, to kill himself was so powerful i had to pause afterwords because it was done so well, no build up, no music, no hints or anything, just straight up no hesitation moment which made it so much more powerful and i loved it, all i got to say is i feel bad for Rudy and i feel REALLY bad for Sara

14:16 I really wish more people will get that. It's so sad when some people describe MT as a fan service anime, when the truth is quite far from that. As a female, a lot of other animes that very clearly just sexualizes women make me uncomfortable and just kinda cringe. But I found MT to be very different. In the first episode, during the Roxy upskirt scene, I immediate thought "oh okay, it's one of those fan service animes, huh", but then very quickly, Rudy accidentally shoots his water ball without finishing the incantation, and I was like "oh wow, that's a smart way of using fan service". it was for Roxy to learn that Rudy can cast magic without incantation, and a lot of other sexual scenes in MT afterwards were done smartly and was used for plot device. Even the clothing of women in this anime isn't very fan service-y. Even the horniest elf in the series is covered quite a lot. Vierra's from last season was very fan service-y with her outfit, but learning why she wears that even solidifies the point that MT uses fan service smartly and often times for plot device.
@HaxeRain Жыл бұрын
For some of the scenes even, i refer to MT using "Fan disservice" as, how the scene will and is meant to be off putting too, like those early eps with Eris, or in Ep0 with the old dude and the girl, those scenes are not meant to make the viewer excited, but the opposite, disgusted, and it works, if someone comes calling it fanservice, instead it shows how they missed the point and have their own heads in the gutter instead of paying attention to the story, as all those moments then are later channel to some change, be it Rudy learning to not be an incel and respect boundaries or such
@mezacharia Жыл бұрын
I agree... I get so tired of commentors and also reactors that get hung up on the "fan service" scenes and completely miss how much that is actually critical part of the story and has purpose to what is going on (and in almost all cases, a realistic situation/event/perspective -- and not just some comedic or plot service). 😖
@beige_projection Жыл бұрын
@@mezacharia Yeah, it's very different from other anime that shows fan service, really just for fan service. One example is Mieruko-chan. I love it a lot, but the fan service scenes, you could tell were really just to make audience thirsty. There's a lot more anime like that. But MT is really different. I've never felt MT as a "fan service" anime. But yes, it does show vulgar thing, the vulgar things feels part of the world building rather than just sexualizing women.

I hope they're able to make up though, it's sad to see Rudy like this and sad to see Sara start to tear away

Well I have an sad news for you. Spoiler ahead, keep reading at your own risk. . . . . . . . . . . . Sara later realize something was wrong and decide to visit the prostitute girl (in the LN she saw rudeus and soldath coming from the red light district). The prostitute explain what really happened to Rudeus. She regret what has happened. She try to apologize and reconcile with him but he already left the town and join another party. She fall into depression again and that's the end of their story. It feel so bad their relationship fail to develop further just because both of them refuse to talk. A simple talk will resolve all the misunderstanding between them and i'm pretty sure Sara will accept him regardless his temporary ED condition.
@-_-DatDude Жыл бұрын
I don't hate Sara per say but I've never vibed with the character based on how she is written from day one in the anime.(She is written too well in a bad way) Sara has some of the worst traits/characteristics of modern women; entitled, argumentive, manipulative, emotionally abusive and hypocritical. She had no right to cry or slap Rudy after Rudy outburst in town after her much worse and more toxic outburst in Rudys room that was obviously intended to make Rudy feel worthless. Whereas with Rudy outburst he venting under the impression that Sara wasn't there. Big difference. Both Sara and Rudy handled it poorly but she instigated it and was far more toxic. To be honest good riddance I say. I'm hoping that is the last we see of her.
@Junakya Жыл бұрын
@-_-DatDude This! It is understandable for Sara to feel ashamed and act like a selfish kid (which she is) and say something hurtful in response, but that doesn't make it any less wrong. However, what I think people overlook is how incredibly hurtful the things she said were. "I don't like you; I just wanted to repay you for saving my life." This is basically saying that all the little things they went through together that made Rudeus feel close to her, their date, her giving hints, were nothing but lies and manipulations to make him sleep with her so she could pay off her debt, presumably because she couldn't stand the idea of owing him. Rudeus is not old and experienced enough to really understand she didn't mean it AND is going through a depressive stage caused by (according to what Rudi believes) another person he trusted completely just throwing him aside like trash and leaving him. Seriously, there is hardly anything worse she could have said. I'd go so far as to say that drunkenly blurting out something along the lines of "I wasn't attracted to her anyway; she is not pretty" is very tame and not really that bad. Sure, it might have hurt, but it was clearly not addressed to her, and it was a response to something much worse she said to him. What I do have an issue with is how the adults present handled the situation. The first thing Soldat should have done after witnessing the slap was to explain to Suzanne the situation and clear the misunderstanding. Suzanne, on the other hand, should have asked Sara what happened when she came back that night and explain to her that her body wasn't the problem (and even if it was, it's still no reason to blame Rudi for that). She should have explained how extremely hurtful what Sara said was and made her go apologize immediately. Alternatively, she should have realized something was wrong when she saw Rudi turn the dagger against himself and started asking questions right then and there, doing her best to help. She knows Rudi went and risked his own life to save Sara and knew that he wasn't one to insult others' appearances, so why does she act as if she didn't notice anything strange about what just happened? Also, telling Rudi to go apologize and explain himself was just disgusting. In my opinion, both Rudeus and Sara are written well in this scenario, but all the adults who knew about this situation are acting like complete morons and plot devices. I've got to be honest; this made me very uncomfortable and less hyped for the series. Not because the situation happened, but because of how it was handled by the side characters and how the show portrayed Rudi as the one in the wrong or, at the very least, as much wrong as Sara. Sara said, perhaps the worst thing possible to Rudeus, and Rudi reacted by expressing his pain and frustration in a mild way when he didn't even know Sara could hear him. How the fuck is that even comparable?
@-_-DatDude Жыл бұрын
@@Junakya Yes precisely! Nice to see someone that has a similar take and appreciates the intricacies/nuances of characters in stories. Jobless reincarnation is damn near a masterpiece for me. I mean, the fact that people like myself and others care enough to dislike a character and disect their bad characteristics despite how well written all characters in the series are is a huge endorsement in itself. I personally don't like the Counter Arrow party in general. Mainly because ive had people like that in my life before, people who potray themselves as friends but in reality where only acquaintances who operate only with their best interest in mind. When Rudy was at his rock bottom drinking his problems away in the inn, where was Counter Arrow? Nowhere to be seen. When Rudy tried to stab himself, where was Counter Arrow? No where to be seen! In both situations it was Soldat, the so-called enemy that helped Rudy. Suzanne like Sara is another one I can't stand. For me shes probably worse than Sara given her age. Suzanne had the audacity to talk down to Rudy for going to far in town when he's just reacting to a shitty situation... The worse thing is, literally the previous episode the callous witch, Suzanne had no qualms abandoning Mimir and the very same Sara she felt so passionately defending... Deserted them in blizzard of all places! Like huh? How can you of all people say that!!?🤬🤬😤😤

The death attempt was crazy in this episode logically it made sense, but no other series would go make the zero to 100 like that catching the viewer off guard. That single action told us where Rudeus's head was at in the episode making it such cool writing and how mentally stable he is in that instance. Soldat stopping it within a fraction of a second shows how close the series could have ended there. Sara was embarassed prompting her to say things to Rudeus she assumed that he didn't find her attractive prompting her to come up with an excuse to spare her feelings and not show weakness and to "explain" the situation in front of Rudeus. Soldat was ticked off by Rudeus's fake guise in front of others presumably because that's exactly what he does in front of others with his mean front against Rudeus when he really wants him to be himself. I'm really excited for this arc as we may get to see Soldat take Rudeus under his wing much like an older brother figure. And also excited to see how this will tie in with Sylphie and her reactions after the timeskip.

With here and everywhere else talking about this episode, I don't think enough people are talking about the intentional sound design decision to emphasize the sound of when that twin dagger, the symbol of Rudeus and Sara's relationship that they bought together during the date, hit the ground when Sara threw it down. That sound had such a harshness and finality and painful ring to it that, for me at least, emotionally hit me like a truck. Just like the moment when Zenith told Paul to shut his mouth in season 1 episode 4 during the conversation with Lilia being pregnant. Or like the way Eris sounded when she was screaming and begging any being in existence to save Rudy from dying in Turning Point 2.

This is honestly one of my biggest anxieties irl and is one of the reasons I don't drink. I understand why he'd go suicidal, not just losing everyone he cares about once, but beginning to connect with people only to lose all of it again and it's his fault, from his perspective only confirming all of his worst fears about himself as a worthless and irredeemable human being. This shit really went hard and I gotta respect Bind for handling it so well, this sort of stuff isn't usually dealt with (even in) seinen anime with this much thought and care.

This takes me back to last year. For me, it got off to a VERY shitty start. Someone who had been very dear to me for the year prior had passed away unexpectedly in mid-January, and the moment I received news about that, I was so devastated I couldn't even react for about 5-10 minutes. It wasn't until after I got home that I finally started letting out my emotions. For much of last year, I tried to bury myself in work and video games to ease the pain of her passing. I even tried moving up into a job I had been working towards that whole time. Except, that "dream job" quickly became a nightmare, so I was forced to quit and render all my effort for the past year and a half completely wasted. That in addition to my ongoing depression after losing my dear friend was just too much for me to handle. Tbh I feel fortunate to be part of a loving family; otherwise I probably would not be alive today to tell you guys...
