Chibi, you have to read Kingdom! If you like all the warfare in Berserk, you will fall in love with this manga. It does'nt have demons, it doesn't have romance, but damn does it have good fights. It pitches you in the middle of massive, massive battlefieds filled with strategy and badassness.

You're right you do need to read volume 8! Now do everyone a favor and don't get any more copyright strikes that would slow down the release schedules of your reviews. You might be the one to actually review every volume of the entire series! Thanks for doing this amazing series justice. I think you're right that an anime never could (and hasn't) done it justice, but there are still plenty of fans of it out there who love it regardless of the themes and plotlines that are omitted, or the characters that are abbreviated. I think the stuff that you identify and call out is very intelligent. Its also impressive that you remember Guts' dislike for fairies at the beginning. The most recent volume has a very brilliant (IMO) tie in with it, and so many readers by then, had long forgotten about that line.

It sure is terrible what happens to Caska... The movies are actually pretty solid (especially the 3rd one) btw. As for the Governor he doesn't want Griffith as a "slave" he wants it to be reciprocated (he REALLY want's it to be reciprocated). And Griffith himself is so removed from the notions of "defeat" that the idea of his Band of the Hawk losing and only him surviving doesn't cross his mind (even if it is a possibility). And you better believe (at least I do anyway) that ufotable could animate Berserk extremely well (probably better than madhouse).

I dunno, Dave Productions has done extremely well thus far with Jojo and perfectly capturing those aspects, it's so close you can ALMOST read the manga along with the series and it be nearly word for word/scene for scene (though it's not quite Monster level in terms of LITERALLY animating the manga).

What I really liked about Griffith killing Gennon (the governor) is the fact he actually didn't kill him for revenge. The whole point was Griffith considered Gennon just a pebble in his path. Griffith always has been a pragmatic dude concerning the achievement of his goal/dream. He actually killed Gennon so he didn't spill the truth about sleeping together. Like Griffith said... he didn't feeling anything about Gennon... not love or even hatred.... just nothing. This tells a lot about Griffith's character-

Yea how Griffith scratches at his own skin like that was so disturbing. You could actually feel what that must feel like. He's clearly having a bit of a meltdown there. After that boy died, it affected him. Then he did something like that with that noble for money. He is clearly not alright with those two events. I certainly was really shocked when that was revealed. I in no way expected something like that. Gutt's reaction of "you can't be serious!" pretty much sums it up.

At this stage, Griffith is not exactly fine with trampling over everyone else to get what he wants. He will certainly do it, but he's not fine with it. The fact he's saying that about himself while clawing at his own arms is some indication to that. Heck, the very reason he agreed to give himself to that governor dude (i forget his name) was so he wouldn't have to keep risking his men's lives all the time. Speaking of which, guess what's the one thing Guts and Griffith now have in common.

In the french version, the poison of the arrow that hits casca is said to be poisoned with an anaesthetic poison. Not sure what the american version says. Oh yeah, and Griffith supposedly sold his own body because he needed an easy way to gain a lot of money without losing men.

I'm surprised I didn't catch this at all, it wasn't so much that Griffith was confident, it's that he KNEW he wasn't gonna die. I should have known this because they perfectly illustrated how this war is damn near impossible to win, even if they had joined all the forces. Griffith on the other hand said "We ONLY need the Hawks". Even Judeau didn't think he could come out of this, Guts started doubting himself towards the end. I didn't think of this but I should have known seeing as how the volume overemphasized on the dangers of this task. Griffith is indeed fucked up.

Damn it's bout to get good. When it comes to anime adaptations, neither are trash. People who say that are simply comparing it to the manga and not looking at it on it's own. That, or they can't get past 90s animation/cg. They are called the manga purists. I'll admit it's understandable though if you read the manga first. I saw the anime series first and it still remains my favorite, even beating out HxH You should at least watch the movies, just so you can see the 3rd movie. You won't be complaining about censors there.

Chibi you got to check out Dorohedoro its a super gritty and bloody series. Its got an odd art style and one heck of a story. Seriously its really good I highly recommend it !!!!!!

I simply can't understand Berserk fans who claim that old anime serie suck and movie version is good. I would say it the other way round. Anime is good, you can definitely feel it 80-90% close to manga and voice actors were perfect, especially Casca. There were a very few scenes cut out which were kinda important, but to say that a movie that covers almost 8 volumes in 60 minutes is good is simply blasphemy XD Not to mention second movie, which is such a disaster that I didn't watch the third one. Anyway Chibi, I think when you finish manga, you should watch the old anime series and skip the movies.

the anime is better as a stand-alone product....though the heavy censoring and limited animation (since they saved both their rating and animation allotments for the finale) hurts it somewhat, especially the obvious rushing after episode 20. the OVAs are bit closer in terms of the subject matter when it comes to the action scenes and violence and gore, but due to how short they are, they FEEL very rushed with very little time for character development outside of the big 3, and it's mostly just there to segeway into the next set of action scenes (though the scenes themselves are much better in the OVAs then in the anime, even if the crappy CGI of the first movie does distract in places, though that improves substantially as it moves towards the 3rd OVA). They mostly just focused adding in the stuff the anime didn't cover (Puck's cameo, the expanded supernatural elements (that the anime showed only the absolute bare minimum of), Silat, though it yet again missed the Black Dog Knights, which SUCKS) while trying to do more justice to level of action/gore/violence/nudity the manga has.
