It's true Rudeus does flirt with the Dark Side a bit in this episode, but for reasons that make sense within the story. It's sadly all too common for people who were once bullied or abused themselves to do the same to others when they find themselves in a position of power (that's essentially what "cycle of abuse" means). We saw how events in this episode struck a nerve with Rudeus, hearkening back to the bullying he experienced in the past, and he's certainly more than powerful enough now to unleash abuse on others if he chose to. He does start to take a few steps towards repeating what was done to him previously, but then he has that epiphany when he realizes "wait, I could totally have just fixed the figure easily", and then finally starts to question "what am I actually doing here?" From that point on, he's just trying to find a way out of what he's started, trying to ensure Linia and Pursena won't resume their bullying, but without actually hurting them. Thanks to some help from Sylphie, he manages to get the message across with what's little more than a harmless prank with the drawings on their faces. Ultimately, it's a lesson he needed to understand, with how powerful he is and clearly will become in this world.

She told him that she also lost someone in the teleporation catastrophe and RECENTLY leanred that the one she lost is alive and doing well. He touched her hands and thought they are pretty delicate and he hears her speaking all the time. Those two things and her general appearance would make ouy think that Fitts has to be a woman. Respecting your intelligence is really what this series is all about. Like for how controversial the last episode got, I really do think that it respected the real fans of the series, the ones who understands Rudy, because if you've been paying attention to the series, you wouldn't have thought that Rudy was just totally okay with slavery. We didn't really need a narration of how Rudy isn't pro-slavery, but obviously a lot of people thought that Rudy and the author is pro-slavery just by that episode lmao and the fact that Rudy said in this latest episode that Julie isn't a slave basically means that he doesn't look at slavery in a good light, which I thought normal people would have gotten even in the last episode.

That's an interesting point. When Rudeus was first stunned, he was surprised and had never seen the technique before, he was then quickly overwhelmed. He would certainly have been in a disadvantageous position if he was hit by Purseena's shriek, but you might have a point that at this stage, he doesn't even need to move to use magic.

Truthfully, I don't think it would work anyway even if she managed to fire the shot since I'm sure Rudy has thought of countermeasures. He also might be able to disrupt magic on it. That first time was bad because he had never even suspected an attack like that. He's much more battle-hardened now. For instance, he could generate a thunderclap or wall of air that would stop the propagation of the sound. Even if paralyzed, he could use his Earth magic to manipulate his body (like with Orsted) and hit them with something nasty. That wouldn't be ideal since anything that was sure to down them without much movement would probably kill them.

​@@SpacePirateLordhey, a little off topic, but do you know how much the light novels deviate from the web novel? I read the LNs through volume 14 but for everything after I read the web novel. One reason I'm asking is I also caught up with Shield Hero and I know the light novels completely separate from the web novel around volume 16 and I had heard about the ending of the web novel not being well-liked so I only stuck to the LNs (and am now waiting for volume 23 like ev1 else, though I did also read the 3 Reprise novels side story). And I found myself a little dissatisfied with MT's web novel ending (probably the last two or three volumes maybe, I'm not sure exactly where). I still really liked the series, but while I know a lot of people say it's the best isekai ever, I easily place Re:Zero (admittedly only through arc 5 since the others have not been translated and it isn't close to finished), Konosuba, and a couple of others ahead of it (and of course Danmachi but it isn't isekai). But I do wonder if the LNs changed enough content to be better than the WN, because Shield Hero definitely seems to have done that, as have many others from what I heard. And since I'm waiting on translations for several series (I caught up on Shield Hero and Goblin Slayer after MT) I know most of the remaining LNs have been translated so I thought I might check them out. I may wait till it is fully translated though. Not trying to start any arguments or debates and I think all of the current controversy is bs. I just am curious to see if it will be worth reading the remaining LNs. Plus I basically read all three series in rapid order after taking a break after Re:Zero so I'll probably take a decent break from LNs for a bit.

I kind of think Silphy might be trying to get to know him all over again because he did leave home as a kid and when he comes back he seems to be a teen. Rudeus seem to have fell in love with Silphy before he met Eris and is likely the answer to his problem and as you said about them getting to know each other again will play a big part of it. Especially after when he learns it's Silphy, because he did love her and was attracted to her. And to be honest he didn't seem interested in anyone after Eris and was trying too hard, I think it would be effortless with Silphy... I wonder if it would shock him.

It makes sense they would become submissive in that situation. He easily handled them both and showed that he knew their father and grandfather. Remember how Gyes and the female Doldia acted when they found out their mistake, rolling over and showing their bellies. He also pointed out how he was treated then they falsely accused him of fondling the sacred beast, but they actively destroyed something sacred to him. I wonder what kind of mana effect Rudy was using with the sacred relic, as I might think it was for artistic effect but I could totally see Rudy generating some kind of ionization to make that glow. The man made of hand held nuclear explosion to try to kill Orsted so I could see him easily generating some ionized air to produce that lightshow.
