I was at this fire at Jackson and Hamlin. It was my first fire acting up as engineer on 95. Chief O'Donnell wrote 95 up for doing a great job as well as everyone that was there. What a privilege to work for that man. I learned a lot working in the 13th.

Thank you for your service. My grandfather and his brother were on the job from the 60s all the way up to 1999. I’m now a fireman out in the Chicago suburbs.

Love all the Old 13th Battalion radio traffic, what a guy Tommy was, I met him as a young fan riding the Squad, he was very kind and welcoming to us even invited us to come and ride with him. They don't make them like him anymore.

That call came in around 9am on a Saturday morning. This apartment building has a concrete roof, no vertical ventilation from the roof. The smoke just spread horizontally and then banked down to the lower floors.

Tony Rodriguez of truck 26 broke the head off his axe on the first swing. You have to a pretty good swing to break the axe. Tony was the smartest firefighter I ever worked with. He started his career at engine 67 at Fulton and kilpatrick, a WPA built firehouse. I learned something from everybody out there in the 13th. Very professional and mature guys!

Is it just me or did Chicago only have one fire dispatcher from the 70s to the 90s? This HAS to be the same guy from the Flight 191 crash. I can just hear him repeating "Toohey Avenue, Toohey Avenue!".
