This is the part of Englewood I grew up in from the mid 60's to the mid 80's. It's now an economic desert compared to what it used to be. When manufacturing left the south side of Chicago, and south suburbs in the late 70's, early 80's, so did the jobs, and many of the businesses. A significant amount of the people in that neighborhood gradually begin to leave soon after that including my family. The neighborhood is a shell of what it once was.....

Oh wow! I did not know this at all. I remember reading about the Steelworkers park and how the economy changed but I had no idea Englewood had manufacturing jobs. I love the history behind the neighborhood and learning so much more about the community everyday. I would’ve loved to see the neighborhood in the mid 60’s to 80’s. I wish the city would keep some form of historic property or landmark. That is really cool to hear about and I truly appreciate you sharing that with me 🙂

Thank you so much for this comment ☺️ I’m happy this hits home for you! Englewood has so much to offer - I love the community and how much they have started to build up the neighborhood. From the community to the architecture - it was a nice walk and had a great time capturing the neighborhood in its naturalness.

Oh my goodness! This video is top notch. Your walks inside of the neighborhoods are incredible. When did they put a Checkers on Ashland? Man I have to visit the area. My grandmother lived on Damen not too far away from where you were. Is that gas station still there? This brought back memories of riding my bicycle down Damen and going to the gas station with my cousins for snacks. Ma’am you have surpassed my expectations of what your channel would embody. Envisioned another KZbinr going Downtown to look at the tall buildings and skyscrapers. I appreciate your uniqueness and the willingness to go out there and record. I want to cry because this brought back memories of my childhood. Thank you for always sharing your content and creativity. Thank you for this ❤❤❤

LOL! I so appreciate it. Downtown is not my thing lol. I’ll go sometimes but it isn’t something I just want to do. We have so much to see and offer in the neighborhoods that people don’t always know or get the opportunity to see. I’m in love with our city and the communities I visit. That is so amazing. Many people I went to school with lived in Englewood/West Englewood and they would always ride their bikes or roller skate to the stores. Yes! The gas station on Damen is still there and that is funny - I started to walk that way but the snow started falling more. I respect my subscribers and their opinions - I love this comment and thank you for your support ☺️🥰🧡

Chicago should build some elevators for people with bad hearts & lung conditions because climbing up all them stairs to the platform is very tiresome in the very hot summer 🌞🌞🌞🌞 I almost past out this past summer only to find out that nobody was allowed to catch the train for at least an hour because something had previously had happened on the train that was scheduled arrived ! It was too hot to be standing and waiting there in one place especially for all of the people over their 50s !

They should actually build elevators. I didn’t notice that until I watched the video again. Those are long stairs to walk up them all the time. I can believe it. The train was at a standstill the entire time I filmed this video and I was like how are you supposed to get to where you’re going now. I understand that - hopefully they do install some elevators soon! 💯

@peacefulexplorations Very Soon ! They had closed the Lake Street Line down for like 2 years and I just knew that the train line was going to improve but it's still the very same to me ! At first , I was expecting some type of Mono Rail system to compete with the Asians overseas but no they never even came close to considering it to become a reality and one would think they would have installed some elevators at all of their main / boarding Stops but they never even considered it 😕😔

Honestly a mono rail would be great! Something that keeps up with the demand of train. CTA is just too slow at times. And it is almost always delayed. I like that idea and I hope they do reconsider or change something about the CTA but it took years to even get the approval for the extension of the red line. We never really improve the systems here.

I stayed on 60th & Marshfield. If you don’t know about 63rd & Halsted you’re not from out South

I used to hang on 64th and Marshfield/Paulina and Rockwell/Oakley. Especially after school lol. But many people don’t and it’s insane because Halsted and Ashland are known streets. I love the southside.
