It's amazing how 30 years of aging can change your perspective. In my teens and 20s I raced illegally in the Philly race scene back in the late 80s and 90s. Back then it was mostly older muscle cars and some newer ones from that time period. I had a 78 Trans Am at the time. Now I'm 50 and still love the cars but not the racing so much. Thats a young person's scene. I wouldn't risk it today. But I still like to go fast in my 500+ hp 2018 Mustang GT 6 speed. Fully blacked out, lowered on black 20s, full Corsa exhaust, louvers, cold air intake, tuned, etc. Wish I had this car back then.

My hometown detroit has a huge notorious street race scene. I live in colorado now. Been here 18 years now. Tower road denver and garden of the gods is where all the street racing here takes place. Me and my own group race victor pass late at night. Perfect roads, no cops, no traffic. Just pure engine rumble

The unfortunate thing is, this just barely touched on the scale of things. It's insane how big it really is. Too bad you didn't see any crazy high horsepower grudge matches, those are fun. That being said, theres tons of stories of friends and loved ones dying, people going to jail (even just spectators in daily drivers), cars getting totalled/impounded/taken/stolen.

Here in South Georgia, we have very few crashes in Atlanta doing our shenanigans, PLUS we have had no deaths. If you know how to handle your car and where to do it, it minimizes outcome. Yes it's reckless and dangerous, but also fun. Our people shut the street down and block off traffic with our cars and put on a show and have fun. I'm glad that it doesn't speak all negativity about the car scene. Too many knock our car scene completely, even when we do behave.
