Chicago Sub Zero Cold Outbreak in 1985 - Media Weather Reports

Remember when the Chicago area had one of its first sub-zero outbreaks in the winter of 1985? Here is a compilation of weather reports on that event from the Weather Channel, NWS, Channel 7, Channel 5 and Channel 2. It was recorded from Mt.Prospect IL at the time. Ch-2's Harry Volkman makes an appearance, also the late Jerry Taft of WLS TV.

2:04 - On the Marseilles Radar, Des Moines (DEM) is placed too far east. The area denoted as "DEM" would actually be between Newton, IA, and Grinnell, IA. Des Moines (DEM) would be right on and slightly west of the 250 mile line.

Navy? I was at the base in Navy boot camp 1/20/85. I was also 19.

anyone east of the Mississippi River unless they were alive 86 yrs ago, saw their coldest day ever of record. Unless you were in so Florida and New England - they get their cold air from a different source region)
