America knows how to market itself, its products, and its ideas. For better or for worse, for richer or poorer, American marketing creativity, power, and prestige influence consumers the world over. Philip Kotler, best known for the marketing principle of the four Ps-product, price, promotion, and place-takes us on a guided tour of American marketing, including its origins and trends, its relationship to economics, and its criticisms. His talk will include examples of exemplary marketing. Kotler is professor of marketing at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, and his textbooks serve as the basis for graduate business programs worldwide.

This is the same thing my marketing professor, who studied Philip Kotler, emphasized to us... marketing is a behavioral science and belongs in humanities. I hate when I meet people who look at marketing as mainly having to do with economics or business management. And I hate to say this, but a lot of the people I have come across who believe this, are long time marketing professionals. We are living in a different era.

+Christopher Gonzalez whenever we study marketing and its importance i believe the ultimate goal is to add value in the peoples lives (Humanities) but everything that adds value in a particular society might be adding value in one particular society but may be harmful for another set of people group. whats your opinion?

By sales promotion... try to correctly target your market and identify competition at your manufacturing level: Such as if you are selling the product depending on the competition price then try to lower it by decreasing some not valued things and try to spend at least 20% of your profit into advertisement or direct marketing... what you can do best is to attract retailers or whole sellers

When it comes to marketing, it is a very cold, blatant and materialistic process. It is like a game, that has certain goals, and a certain way to be played.

At 45:46 Dr. Kotler mentions a book: "Defending Your Business" by a colleague of his at the Kellogg School of Management referred to only as "Tim." I believe Dr. Kotler is referring to Tim Calkins' Defending Your Brand: How Smart Companies Use Defensive Strategy to Deal with Competitive Threats.

I've design a logo for my small company, it is an air con and refrigeration company..However the target customer are mainly government ministries..the difficult part is..the more you know these top influential officials the more likely they will buy your product regardless of what the price. or how fancy your logo design is..How should I influence these groups in order to maximize my market ?
