I've met several psychiatrists and psychologists with that attitude (I am a trainee psych). There was even a case where the psychiatrist refused to change a child's diagnosis of ADHD to the actual ASD because the child's parents preferred it so. It's a common occurrence which can harm the patients a lot.
@rachelcookie3212 жыл бұрын
And then there’s me wanting an ASD diagnosis changed to ADHD. Well actually I would rather not be diagnosed with anything as an ADHD diagnosis would also be not good for me but I’m pretty sure I have ADD instead of autism.
@dmf13012 жыл бұрын
@@rachelcookie321 I am autistic. Diagnosed. My psychologist told me recently that autism and ADHD quite often go hand in hand. She thinks it’s possible that I have ADHD as well. I am not hyperactive, but she said that being the opposite can also be a sign of ADHD (lethargic). It’s quite fascinating, really. I never thought of myself as having ADHD.

@@dmf1301 yea, there’s ADD which is a type of ADHD but without the hyperactivity. My mum has been saying for years she thinks I have ADD.

@@rachelcookie321 ADD is actually renamed in the DSM-5 as ADHD: inattentive presentation, versus ADHD: hyperactive presentation (there is also a third which includes both types of symptoms). ADD hasn't been an official term since the 80s, just sharing incase this info will be helpful in the future. One reason it was changed is because the inattentive (or non-hyperactive) type of ADHD is usually found in girls and mistreated or ignored throughout childhood as it does not APPEAR to interfere in the child's life or children around them through hyperactive/distracting behaviors. I myself was diagnosed (inattentive) late and its messed up some aspects of my education, so I hope you get the answers you're looking for!

I can absolutely relate to that. Everyone thought I was a psychopathic liar, when I tried to tell them the truth about my narcissistic, abusive parents. Family, doctors, psychiatrists, it didn't matter. Nobody took any notice. My childhood was a hellish nightmare and everyone believed that I was the crazy one. Until one day, a psychiatrist revealed the true monsters, just by asking one simple question. I will never forget him. He saved my life!
@meng_jan2 жыл бұрын
What was the question?
@tophus55832 жыл бұрын
@@meng_jan A simple one. But it's a bit of a story. There was this incident with a housekey. I didn't have my own, 'cause my parents liked to have control over me. Some kind of a sick game, I guess. Whenever they wanted to punish me for something, I had to sleep outside. Even in the frostiest winter. They just laughed about it... Anyway. My father once told and showed me, where they hid some spare keys. But some time later, when I wanted to grab 'em, I did not find them, where they should supposed to be. When I confronted my mom about it, she just laughed at me for decieving me. I went mad and yelled at her. Later on she told everyone, that I wanted to harm or kill her and she feared for her life over some simple "misunderstanding". Every soul believed her and didn't question her version of the story. But said psychiatrist did. He questioned her about this "misunderstanding" she was talking about. When he realised flaws in her story, he used it against her and asked: "Miss, if their is obviously some sort of a communications error between you and your husband, why are you blaming your child?" I will never forget her reaction. Instantly her kind and helpful behavior turned upside down and she went into fullscale-attackmode. She yelled at everybody for not doing their job. Especially the psychiatrist who questioned her. Everyone was finally convinced, that I told them the truth from the very beginning.

@@tophus5583 and what happened with you after that?
@tophus55832 жыл бұрын
@@thatydanielle5867 Oh man, where do I even begin? I could publish a whole series of books about it. After her so-called "confession", I was released from the mental institution, went my own way, and never spoke to or saw my mother again. It was probably better that way. I had serious trouble adjusting to the world outside of that toxic childhood, without a family to back me up. But somehow, I ended up making it. I hated my parents for years for what they did to me. Now I just pity them for who they are. They are absolutely incapable of seeing their mistakes and taking responsibility for their actions. After a few years, I found out they got divorced. This did not surprise me in the least. Instead of self-reflection, they point fingers at each other like spoiled children on the playground and cover up their crimes by denouncing anyone who knows their little secrets. I once tried to build a healthy relationship with my father, but as I said, he did not change in the slightest. He took a new wife and put on the same show as before. He mocked and ridiculed me in front of his new wife and other people and manipulated our past in his favor. For example: he pretends to be a loving and caring father and he wanted to protect "the family" from my mother. But in reality, he was just a slavering bloodhound who never questioned her and always did her bidding. I got tired of it very quickly and broke off contact with him for good. Now I am just a failure of a son to him. At least that's what he tells his people.... Like I said, life can be harsh without a family to back you up. But let's be serious: with that kind of a family, you did not even need enemies. Even if it sounds crazy, but these days every single struggle in my life is like a gentle breeze compared to my childhood.

I like the fact the Doctor ast the end addressed the fact that the girl might not be mentally ill in trying to kill herself rather than going back to the pysch hospital. Sometimes people will be killed by suicide toescape what they deem to be a worse inescapable conclusion. Its like those in war that are facing the end from a horrific enemy they choose the quicker end than suffer. Thats what the patient is trying to do here. She doesnt want to suffer anymore.death from suicide from depression or anxiety is from getting to the point where you feel you have no worth at all to give and believe that the world would be better off without you. Suicide isnt just something that kills depressed people
@itrickyalove6 жыл бұрын
This reasoning is the exact reason why people who have severe depression (and other mental illness) attempt suicide. They don't know any other way to stop their suffering. People just seem to forget that people will do anything when they feel like they're trapped and there's only one way out.

I am diagnosed with this myself and this in no way is a true representation of the way I am or other people I know who also have BPD. Personally I feel this adds to the stigmas already attached to BPD such as that they are attention seekers etc, when it is much much deeper and more complex than that.

Typical reaction by the psychiatrist. Question my diagnosis? GTFO. Few of these "professionals" should heal themselves before trying to do it to others.

@@no1takethisname I don't mean that MOST therapists do this, no, I just said it's typical, this type of (mentally ill) therapists do this.

I would like to point out that I didn't use the word "most" I used your word "typical". But I can see therapist being opinionated to what ever degree.

This video made me tear up. This happened to me... but opposite. I tried to kill myself because I couldn't stand being in my house anymore and had no other choice. When I woke up in the hospital one of the psychiatrists deemed that I was mentally unstable and blamed everything on me, I mean, I know I was the one committing suicide but I was so desperate. She said it was a call for attention because I was selfish and wanted to hurt my family and said she was gonna do everything on her part to have me hospitalised in the psychiatry wing. I told her I'd prefer that over going back home and then she purposefully discharged me.

Can we have a crossover with Dr House? So we can see Dr House roasting the psychologists and them actually calling him a narcissist or a sociopath
@ibvghgfvbnbc Жыл бұрын
That would be hard, poasible but hard. The best scenario would be House is in Chicago, but not the rest of his team, because PPTH is more professional and has good ethical conduct compared with Gaffney Chicago Medical Center
@ibvghgfvbnbc Жыл бұрын
Not to mention this show while good is too dramatic and tension driven, while House is diagnostic driven and there dilemma is more on the side of ethics

So many borderline personality disorder sufferers get horrible therapists....sadly there are many bad therapists out there. I've met quite a few bpd ppl and genuinely listened to their lives. And I've studied them. It's so fucking horrible what they have to suffer through. The brain is such a complex thing 😭
