I'd assume it's because people would typically think of landmarks, searching for corners inside buildings or behind a rock or something. It's probably our ape brain survival instincts kicking in, since predators don't usually hide in plain sight.

spy was created as a bug, because back when it was still called team fortress, there was a bug where the enemy team could sometimes appear as your teams color. it was so common of a bug they decided to create a class dedicated to it, hence the spy.

So. The hiding behind slightly elevated platforms thing. Lazy didn't know at the time but that is actually a 1 to 1 technique that real Japanese Ninja did. A KZbinr named Gaijin Goombah can explain far better then I can in his Which Ninja series. But essentially when we are looking for someone our brains overlook small cover and things that aren't Human sized.

So we create some distance from ledge to look over. Its not as consistent when moving down the ledge but still can happen as people turn in wide arcs and tend to distance from "exposed" ledge. So that spot is a weird blind spot
@CaptainWobbs

I actually don’t think that has as much application in this case, since… Y’know. Spy’s invisible. Our brains don’t have to overlook him because we can’t see him in the first place.

@@CaptainWobbs the invisibility certainly helps but I think there is some application to such an idea. Spy’s gone. In your brain why would he stop? He would still be running right?
@jojivlogs_4255
@jojivlogs_4255 2 жыл бұрын
If you're asking if spy is given a more intense invisibility effect for hiding next to elevated platforms, then no. The spy remains just as invisible at all times during the use of his invisibility watch except for when he's in the cloaking/uncloaking (TF2's word for spy going invisible) animation. Lazy Purple gives the spy a translucent silhouette in some scenes, when in reality the spy would be fully invisible, for the sake of the video. It doesn't look like that in-game except during the cloak/uncloak animation. People not checking those spots is just a psychological thing. And unfortunately, my expertise only extends as far as video games, so I can't give any insight on that :)
@deltagearadvanced5140
@deltagearadvanced5140 2 жыл бұрын
It's a psychological thing. When mobility is key to a game players will often avoid hugging certain structures to give them more space to move around. This doesn't always happen as everyone is different but anyone who spends any time playing games will probably pick up on this habit.

People assume when a spy turns invisible, that he'll run away. So just pressing against a wall and sitting still often fools them.
@itsturniptime3699
@itsturniptime3699 2 жыл бұрын
Plus the only way to find them is if you spray every single wall in the area with bullets or run up against them, which loses time and allows the Spy to possibly run away Unless you’re Pyro, Pyro doesn’t have much issue
@CaptainWobbs
@CaptainWobbs 2 жыл бұрын
One of the easiest and most reliable escape tactics as Spy is to cloak and run away. Then if/when somebody shoots you and blinks your cloak, immediately turn and run in the other direction. They’ll almost always assume you’re continuing to go the same direction and run off shooting the wind. Of course, this doesn’t work against Heavies or Pyros. But aside from that. Spy’s invisibility is a very strong escape option, but it becomes infinitely stronger when you apply some thought to it.

Mistakes of new players: Scout: Missing every shot Soldier: Shooting at their feet/shooting pyros (tbh soldier is the best starter class even without rocket jumping) Pyro: Thinking they're invincible or that the Phlog is the best flamethrower (When people see a Phlog, they KNOW you can't stop their projectiles) Demo: Pills are hard to aim but they should be used more than Stickies Heavy: Constantly using him. Heavy is a specialist. Engineer: Not using their brain. I KNOW the sentry aims for you, SUPPORT YOUR TEAM. Medic: Oh dear... just watch the entirety of ArraySeven. Sniper: Picking sniper without being able to aim Spy: The entirety of spy. Unless you're good, don't expect to get much done.

you forgot the worst mistakes: not looking at your team composition when picking a class, resulting in terrible teams that lack support and/or power classes. not looking at the game state when choosing your class (switching to pyro when a spy back stabs you is only first step, but usually also the only one people take) not playing sniper because your aim sucks, resulting in your aim never improving not playing spy because it's hard, resulting in you never learning the spy strats, which leads to you getting relentlessly bullied by spies forever because you don't know how they operate.

When you're invisible, you're *invisible.* You're only briefly revealed with a slight shimmer-ish effect if you bump into an enemy player or take damage. Or, if you're using the Cloak and Dagger (Less invisibility bank, but it can recharge while you stay still, letting you stay in a spot for ages as seen in many clips.) if you walk with empty cloak, you'll be in constant shimmer. A player always has collision with the enemy team. No matter any configurations of disguise or invisiblity or whatever the hell. A RED spy will *always* collide with BLU team players. As said, when invisible, you are *invisible.* You have zero playermodel to see. Your team can see your faint team-colour-tinted shimmer, but the enemy team cannot see you even a modicum unless you get bumped or take damage and get that brief silhouette. The hiding by a ledge thing is just psychology, you can't intensify a binary option of yes invisible or no invisible. If you're stuck by a wall, that's 180 degrees of movement you cannot have, so if a scout comes in, he's gonna wreck your shit with two meatshots because you have only 180 degrees to move in, cutting your evasion in half. So you walk with a gap away from the wall so you can move in any direction to let you have 360 degrees of evasion. That's my theory. Anyway, people walk aside from walls, not along them.

It is confirmed that spy is scouts father its in the comics its always hinted throughout the narrative, but spy doesn't want to reveal it, that even when *spoilers* scout on the brink of death, in front if the spy, the spy insists to disguise himself as Tom Jones as scout believes his father to be Tom Jones and as to not disappoint him and considering he is dying and that revealing a bombshell information that spy is his dad would only cloud his conscience with more questions and regret, he did one last fatherly act and did him a favor, which is make his last day on earth, a day he won't regret, but to know more about what happens next and the twist, I suggest you read the comics, perhaps react to the tf2 comic dubs available on youtube, by the Beards channel which I highly recommend

It looks easy when you watch it, but when you play the class, it becomes hard, first when you use the cloak where you disappear, a trail of smoke will follow you (occurs when beginners are exited to come out of the spawn) hence easy to be spotted, 2. where you stab matters, if you trick stab to the left, it will be less damage, but to the right it has more damage credit: delfy spy mistakes
