@@spectrastar2749 I was reasoning the concept just the other day... a burger is not a sandwich (neither is a hotdog) because the definition of sandwich states that it's food in between two slices of white bread. the only way you can slice a loaf of white bread, is width-wise. a burger bun isn't sliced width-wise, it's sliced diameter-wise... because it's round. and a hotdog bun isn't sliced width-wise, but length-wise.

@@bcn1gh7h4wk ok, but consider. Whole wheat and grain breads aren't white bread, and those are still used for sandwiches. A plain bun can be considered to be a white bread product, however. Edit: Footlong sandwiches can be cut like hotdog buns, so by those definitions, a hotdog is a sandwich.

1: because meat, veggies, and sauce (potentially) tie both of these lunches together. These few ingredients incorporate the majority of breaded snackies that many have consumed. Therefore, I believe it would be improper to disqualify a hamburger from being a sandwich. Specifically, if it's indeed because of its rather HEAVY outer layer of bread or the circular meat-based pattie within, Despite its complete incorporation of these fundamental food groups and forms. Because that would be pedantic: the type of bread or the style of cut meats is irrelevant to the bigger picture; it would just be a heavier sandwich or a specific kind of sandwich. For example, a croissant-based food where such ingredients would be employed, in a sandwich-esque style, would you dare call such a thing a " croissant burger"? Would a circular bun (redundant for a croissant-based bun, but hear me out) and a meat pattie held tight inside make it one? NO!!! But, I must digress that is indeed a somewhat light bread to use. Instead, what if we used whole-grain bread with sesame seeds? No...that doesn't change anything: there are plenty of grainy, heavy sandwiches. If you still believe the roundness of the ingredients or the primary choice of beef constitutes the difference between a burger and a sandwich, then allow me to shatter this misconception in my conclusion. A rounded ice cream sandwich can not be called an " ice cream burger," nor does it quite roll off the thing either. So based on this, we can see that the shape of said bun or the innards that lie within have nothing to do with it. Chicken, turkey, pork, and fish burgers are a thing and are beloved by many! So meat isn't the issue. Cooking it isn't different either because you do the same with a grilled cheese sandwich. A BURGER IS JUST A ROUND SANDWICH CLEVERLY DISGUISED IN PREPARATION. SPHERICAL BUNS CUT IN HALF VS TWO PIECES OF "FLATBREAD." THIS IS NOT ENOUGH TO SEPARATE THEM! EVEN IF ITS MEAT IS A PATTIE! THEY ARE BROTHER AND SISTER! UN-IDENTICAL TWINS! 1, a sandwich 2 pieces of bread with content in the middle is my own definition of a sandwich. Sandwich is almost an umbrella term, meaning there is no real definition as to what a sandwich really is, there's so many types and sub categories of sandwiches in the end the line between sandwich and not sandwich is extremely blurry. Maybe we're sandwiches, a mix of bones tissue and organs in-between skin. Sandwiches are surprisingly poetic.

The main differences between a sandwich, and a burger are 1. The meat is normally hot in a burger, but cold in a sandwich, (unless it's a Reuben, or you've heated it for preference, for the taste is vastly different.) And 2, and burger consists of a BURGER BUN, and a sandwich consists of SANDWICH BREAD, the bread used is the major difference, but depending on choice of meats, it's one of the two, the greens you choose do not factor in it's denomination, but consistently, it is easier to make a good sandwich rather than a good burger. I am a trained sandwich professional, I know what I'm talking about. Thank you for listening to my Ted talk.

sandwich can be a classification and a name as well, while a sandwich like pb&j's or ham sandwiches are more familiar, burgers and sanwiches have one thing in common. top and bottom bum, with open sides and ingredients in the middle, with meat, cheese, condiments of your choosing, heck maybe even some pickles and onions, maybe lettuce. So the food sandwich can be many forms, but in my opinion, the sandwich classification consists of sandwiches (ham and pb&j, etc.) as well as burgers. Burger is the name of the food, but sandwich is the classification. At least in my opinion.

I'm 1 and 2. Technically, yes, a burger COULD count as a sandwich. Keyword: COULD. Then again, many things are subjective, such as food. After all, if nothing was subjective, who would have opinions. Here is the Google definition: A sandwich is a food typically consisting of vegetables, sliced cheese or meat, placed on or between slices of bread, or more generally any dish wherein bread serves as a container or wrapper for another food type. Therefore, with this in mind, yes a footlong could count as a sandwich as it meets the criteria above. Though, as food is a mainly objective thing, you could be correct despite saying that a burger is not a sandwich.

My way of seeing the sandwich thing If it's a bread with anything in it, it's a kind of sandwich, but some types of sandwich are not what you call "sandwich" Hot dogs are hot dogs first, hamburgers are hamburger first, if the bread is open it's usually a toast (and pizzas are not toast, they're not bread they're dough)
