As an old sniper player, I definitely target Heavy players if medic isn't around (of course they tend to be close often so not usually the case) because they can be a nightmare if not kept in check. If not prepared (especially when playing on a Payload map) a team could have 4 heavy players and absolutely dominate the other team just by sticking to the payload. After playing Heavy myself for a time, against good Scout, Spy and Sniper players (any class can be a nightmare if the player is good enough) really do make you feel helpless sometimes, that's why I moved away from playing just Sniper to playing every class so I could learn how to deal with each one as any class easier. Long story short, classes have their strengths and weaknesses and it's fun learning what they are and how to exploit them. Great video from Lazy and yourselves!
@edim108 Жыл бұрын
That's one of the reasons this game is so long lived. Every class has an important role to play, each has their strengths and weaknesses, and each is so fun! It's one big game of rock paper scissors, except there are very few actual hard counters so even if you're up against a class that has an edge over you, you can still outplay them. The main deciding factor in who comes out on top is skill and sometimes a bit of luck (or RNG bs like random crits if you're not playing comp or Uncletopia). There is always someone who just plays better on you and even after so many years there are always new players so the game isn't just hardcore veterans that'll curb stomp you...

Don't dismiss the Heavy just yet. In the casual environment he is definitely one of the easiest classes to play as, since his gameplay boil down to "Hold down right mouse to rev gun, hold left mouse to shoot, walk toward enemy, avoid open space and look behind you once in a while for Spies." People even called his gameplay a "Point and click adventure game" for a reason. You will also be more likely to be healed by Medics just for being the Heavy.
@Lux_the_Lost Жыл бұрын
Can confirm on just how hard Heavy punishes clueless players. I went into a random Dustbowl lobby, things were kind of taking nasty turn with people leaving, and eventually I wound up on the RED team with only a team of practice AI's backing me, while four actual players were on the BLU team. Long story short, I ended up defending the final point, going completely deathless during that whole song and dance as I got into my opponents' predictable heads and figured out where they were going to come at me from; they tried to be sneaky and take the low road to me a few times but I was two steps ahead the whole time. The match ended with none of them having even touched the point, and that must have left them with a SUPER-sour taste of humble pie because every single one of them promptly ragequitted and left. Best part is I was using the Huo-Long Heater to do it, which is arguably the worst of Heavy's miniguns (it creates a ring of fire around you that ignites nearby enemies while it's spinning, but that fire ring consumes extra ammo and adds up real quick espcially while you're actively shooting, and unless any Spy caught in it is using the Spy-Cicle it won't save you from being backstabbed, so pretty single-handedly defending a point from four other players with it is not easy to do).

Heavy is a weird dynamic. On his own he's not the best thing to play, with the exception of payload maps where he's always got a constant supply of ammo if he's pushing the cart. He is the slowest class in the game, and so he really cannot pick his fights at all. If he sees bad guys, he's more or less got one choice and that is to kill them before they kill him. That said, Medic is an excellent pal to have. With Heavy being such a bullet sponge, a medic constantly healing up the damage he takes is going to build an uber charge relatively quickly... unfortunately, when it comes to using that uber charge, he's got much better options to pair with in Soldier and Demoman, but every now and then you'll get it as a Heavy and lay waste to the enemy. In truth, a good heavy in casual play is typically defined by how much support they get from their team, as well as their knowledge of maps and positioning. And yes, if you're going on a rampage in a lobby and making the enemy team's life a nightmare playing Heavy, you won't have to wait long before you start seeing a lot more snipers and spies coming at you. But in the world of TF2, we call that a win.

Heya Idk if you take suggestions at all... But I'd love to suggest checking out things from the game Hollow Knight!! it's a completely hand-drawn metroidvania type game about exploring a fallen kingdom in a world full of little bugs. It's full of incredibly fun combat and platforming (but also very difficult) and a really good story. You can check out the lore video if you'd like from Mossbag, or you can watch videos of the boss fights (I'd suggest the fights, 'Nightmare king Grimm', 'The Radiance' or 'The Hollow Knight') or 'The path of Pain' which is an extremely difficult platforming section of the game. But moreso I just suggest you maybe try and play the game as it has some beautiful music, art and the way they tell their story (there are things you can only learn if you pay close attention to the visual story telling.) I also REALLY suggest you check out the trailers for Silksong which is the sequel coming out (hopefully.. we don't even know anymore) sometime this year.

"Heavy is slow, he needs a teleporter to reach the front line quickly!" NO! *NO!* exceedingly NO! Heavy is the best area defense character after an Engineer's sentry gun.... if the Engineer focuses on building a dispenser first and using IT and THE HEAVY to make space to THEN build the sentry, then Heavy makes perfect sense to be slow. he's not slow because he must-be-prevented-from-reach-the-front-line-quicker-because-otherwise-he'd-mow-everyone-down. he's slow because he doesn't NEED to reach-the-front-line-quicker-in-order-to-mow-everyone-down. if the enemy is at all predictable, they will come TO the objective (first) and TO the moving Heavy (in second order). That is where Heavy is used: defending the team as they move forward. Heavy is technically a hitscan class, so as long as you can keep your crosshair aimed correctly, you'll hit your shots. So, you don't NEED to "fight the enemy team for control of positioning"... you fight the enemy team, period, as they come at you, and you keep moving forward. Keep rolling that lard armor forward until you reach the point where your team's last major position stops being effective, HOLD that new position, and have your Engi fortify it, becoming the new forward position. even the noobiest of Heavies is augmented by a decent Engi with a dispenser.... the problem is, NOBODY knows that! they all build the sentry first! So, the sentry chews down all the metal for ammo, the Heavy runs out of ammo, there's no dispenser around, the Heavy has to retreat to resupply, the position is open, and two pipes and a sap later, you're back in respawn with your hands up.
@feminine_desires Жыл бұрын
I think you are misunderstanding the purpose of a teleporter. It's to get newly spawned players to the rest of the team faster. This is the front line, where your team is currently positioned to either attack a choke or koth point, or defend a choke or koth point. Would you rather walk there as a heavy? Or would you rather take a teleporter? Typically as an engineer the teleporter is the FIRST thing you build because the entrance and exit are the farthest things from where your team is going to be positioned, so you typically stock up to max metal as the ammo packs are on the way from where you built your exit to where you are going to build the dispenser. Note you aren't sitting next to them upgrading them, you just plop them down. Same goes for the dispenser. Though depending on the map the sentry might come first to deny a flanking scout or bombing soldier. As for everything else you said, it's just not exactly how competitive works I'm afraid. The only situation in which the enemy is going to be willing to move into your known heavy is with uber or via a dry push if he just took a lot of damage from spam or sniper headshot, and he's not going to be of much use then defending or on offense. And they aren't even ubering because of the presence of a heavy, that's just how outclassed he is. Players uber because they need to bust through a choke, one that is typically watched by demos and snipers. Any area of denial that the heavy can give is overshadowed by the demo who is far more mobile and capable of killing larger groups of enemies at longer range faster, or sniper, who denies entire lines of sight just by existing and can melt an entire team in seconds if they don't respect the sightline. Also note that players do not push around the heavy, like ever. They will retreat to a heavy's position but never push around the heavy, he is just too slow and when your soldier bombed the enemy medic and forced uber or picked the sniper, you need to capitalize on that advantage immediately. As for engineer in competitive, you never build a sentry or dispenser where you need space now. You only build them when you already have space, because they die *really* quick. So putting the dispenser down for the heavy to make space is moot, because you and your heavy shouldn't be in those places in the first place until they are already secured by your demo and sniper. If you are, you are going to realize just how fragile heavy is with his complete lack of mobility. Beyond that, any competitive engineer knows that because the dispenser takes so long to build up, you plop it down before the sentry and then build and upgrade the sentry while you wait for the dispenser. You have to remember in competitive highlander other people also need to use the dispenser, and they need to do so out of the range of the enemy sniper and demo, so the dispenser needs to be in a safe place, not one that is going to let your heavy make space. In comp the heavy is typically one of the weakest classes, and a lower priority for enemy classes to focus on. In 6v6 heavy isn't even used, even on defense because he's too slow and too easy to hit. In highlander where every class is required as a 1of, the sniper, medic and demo all are far higher priority picks than heavy. And much often even the pyro or engie is higher priority, pyro because he will deny the uber or deny choke spam, or engie because he denies the soldier and scout from getting into the flank to make plays, and because the teleporter is the most important building in the engineer's arsenal.
@bcn1gh7h4wk Жыл бұрын
@@feminine_desires I'm not talking about the teleporter. I'm talking about THE HEAVY. I'm not saying that the Heavy "doesn't need the teleporter", I'm saying the Heavy *doesn't* _need the teleporter_ one is a negation, the other is an exception. the Heavy shouldn't prioritize taking the teleporter to reach the front line... the Heavy should prioritize establishing his current position as the front line, next to the Engineer, wherever they may be. when the Heavy moves, the end position of that movement *BECOMES* the front line. there being enemies at it or not, is circumstantial.
@feminine_desires Жыл бұрын
@@bcn1gh7h4wk You understand that when a heavy gets out of spawn that he should take the teleporter right? And that it is faster to do than walking? That is the basic principle of what this video is trying to convey, that a teleporter is faster than walking and that heavy out of all the classes benefits it from the most because he is so slow. Any competitive player knows that a teleporter is going to be positioned right next to where the team is wanting to position themselves, so there's no reason to never take a teleporter and that it is always better to have one than to not. Nothing about this video talks about positioning next to the engineer because well, that's not his job as a heavy in competitive TF2. He doesn't just sit by the dispenser that is behind cover and not putting pressure on chokes, the enemy combo or the point. He's not a sentry. He moves where the main caller tells the team to move, and the engineer isn't going to be constantly moving the dispenser next to the team, especially if they are forward holding. Your insistence on focusing on the term front line is kind of odd considering that is not actually a term used in competitive TF2. This video is using "the front line" as a shorthand for "wherever the team currently wants to hold a choke or koth point, pressure a choke or koth point, or forward hold a koth point in the case of bagel or product as indicated by the main caller for the team". It's just a language thing to get a point across to casual players, not actually really something you should heavily focus on as a defining factor of competitive play. I recommend you ask some invite players in UGC, RGL, TFCL and ETF2L for some game demos (they should always have some available since they are required to upload them to the tournament league they are playing to check for cheats) or to go the twitch streams of those channels when a match is being played to watch how competitive TF2 plays and flows. I can guarantee you it'll give you some insight into how Heavy is *actually* played in competitive. And you could also just, go on B4nny's stream and ask him how heavy is meant to be played in comp, he doesn't have the greatest number of invite grand championship first place medals won for no reason. He'll give you the tips on how to be a good heavy in competitive TF2 even if he doesn't think highlander has any competitive integrity due to the leagues not wanting to adapt to current trends.
