.50 cal beowulf isn't half as powerful as other .50 cal rounds, it has similar power to .223 rifle rounds but just with a much bigger bullet, it flys slow but has a lot of mass behind it.

wrong the beowulf has twice as mutch kinetic energy as a .223. It has around the same ammount of kinetic energy as the 7.62x51 (which is basically a sniper caliber)

@@matejagicza745 wait really? I thought I read a few articles that were saying it was low velocity, guess you can't believe everything you read lol. Why does it run on the AR-15 platform tho? Would have thought they'd chamber up a more heavy duty gun instead of using the old .223 model as a base.

The velocity (or the speed of the projectile) of the .50 beowulf is around 1,800 to 1,900 ft/s (feet per second) and typically has more than 2,300 ft-lbs (foot-pounds) of kinetic energy. The 5.56 nato is has a faster velocity (3,260 ft/s) but has lower kinetic energy (1,300 ft-lbs). The appeal of the .50 beowulf is that, since the cartridge is extremely similar in length to a 5.56 nato cartridge, you could convert a standard AR-15 to .50 beowulf with the change of a few parts, even without tools. Plus, the .50 beowulf is also a very potent round capable of large game hunting, such as bear or moose, something the 5.56 nato just isn't as capable of. This gives prospective hunters an easy means of converting a rifle they may already have into another that can be used for large game, rather than buying a separate rifle all together.
