Chick Corea has led so many amazing trios in his legendary career but for me everytime when him, John Patitucci and Dave Weckl get together, that's when the real magic happens. Almost over 30 years later and these guys sound as good if not better than ever, it doesn't get any better than the Chick Corea Akoustic Band.

soul-stirring performance by one of the best contemporary jazz trios ever.. Chick will be forever missed. as a drummer myself, I've noticed that beyond Dave's exceptional (final) solo, there was a true feeling of comradery with his two bandmates standing right behind his set enjoying every note. as we know, drumsolos are that moment when folks usually go backstage grab a drink or whatever... Bravo, gentlemen!

Saddened beyond words. With the pandemic going, I really went downhill for a few days after he passed away. Starting to come out of it and enjoying his music again. His music profoundly influenced me throughout my life starting when I was back in high school in 1972. I will never forget this man. Just simply brilliant and an a incredible human being, and I doubt I'll ever get over the loss. His contributions to the world of jazz music were enormous.😢♥️ RIP Chick Corea☺️

@gustafsone5 жыл бұрын
I was introduced to all three of these guys in the early 90's when I, too, was about 12 years old. They were members of one of the greatest big bands ever assembled called the "GRP All-Star Big Band". I think it was put together by Dave Grusin. I still regularly listen to both of the studio albums they recorded, and I'm still blown away. I also got to see (and meet) Dave Weckl when I was a freshman in college when he was on tour for his solo album called "Synergy". I've heard many great drummers over the years and of the ones still alive, I think Weckl has to be the most technically proficient. I have also loved the sound of his kits and to this day I've never heard anything like it before. That sound is so unique that I will know almost immediately if Weckl is playing the drums on any particular recording, even if I've never heard it before.

13 for me and I'm 46 now. Had all of Dave's DCI videos. Played them back and forth and in slow mo until the VHS tapes wore out. Saw them live maybe ten dozen times. To this day in my loft office I have my Weckl copy Yamaha RC in cherry maple with two hi-hats and left side floor tom. I'm such a geek. This music scored a good chunk of my life. So much gratitude to Dave, Chick and John. Thx to jazzgreen for posting this.

I love trio music, be it Chic C., Bill Charlap, KJ, Fred Hersch and others. Acoustic piano, bass and drums across. They all have this unique and talented individualism that sets them apart musically. Listening you hear those passages, moods, subtle differences in rhythm and improvisation each trio bring forward. It’s all spontaneously there, and I’m so fortunate to have the opportunity to hear swing, bop, from musical masters such as the CC trio. Cheers

But I didn't get to hear any more for quite some time until again by chance, I spied the Beneath The Mask CD at a small local music/bookstore. No internet and no online shopping. The chemistry among those 3 is amazing, they still sound like those old GRP CDs. I believe that maybe some musicians might have been separated or distanced from Corea due to his beliefs with the Scientology crap since him is heavy into that. For sure Scott Henderson, his first guitarist from Elektric Band (1986) went away to be replaced by Frank Gamballe.
