Mike Miller accomplished as he is - first caught him with Gino - Is just so relaxed and as a result, his playing is so fluid. Great player.

While Frank Gambale is, hands down, my favorite fusion guitarist, I am a big fan of Mike Miller. He is a very understated, often overlooked, brilliant player.

When I was studying music in college in the early 2000's, I went to the jazz section of a used tape/CD store and picked out a few albums that said they were guitar-driven. One was John Scofield's A Go Go and the other one was Mike Miller's Save The Moon. Best 5 bucks I ever spent! I've been influenced a TON by those albums. Then I went back and bought a ton of stuff from Dave Brubeck to John Patitucci. Love this stuff!

Mike is always so fun !! I studied with Frank in 98 and the first advice he gave was "while you're in L.A., go see Mike Miller and Mike Landau ! Best players in town !!" . Needless to say, I did just that , and it was golden !!!

If I'm not mistaken this was August 1993, Mt. Fuji Jazz Festival and I was there. Drove from Atsugi-shi in my new Toyota Corolla Mark II with Robbie Halverson.. Al DeMeola played and Watanabe Kasumi played SPAIN with Al. Mike Miller's work can be found on the first Yellow Jacket's LP Mirage a tois. Anyways.. Domo sumimasen.

mike was on the 2nd yellowjackets lp mirage a tois in '83 . it was robben on the 1st yellowjackets lp released in '81 and he also played on a few mirage tracks. they both still find my turntable ! also never knew this till recently .... mike did audition for the original elektric band but chick opted for frank instead. I caught their 1st tour , they played the tower theater , phila and based on the 1st elektric band release I thought it would be scott Henderson or carlos rios on guitar. I remember when they hit the stage I said and have on tape "who's this guy" ?? found out in no time who he was and been a fan ever since of frank..... I think that ticket was approx. $8.00

I always and still sustain that paint the world had the best electric band ever even though I love john P, Dave Weckel, and Frank G, playing, this band grooved harder and their pocket was the most amazing one. Still till this day CTA, Blue miles, and Ritual a staple of the Electric band 2. Jimi Earl's pocket amazing while mike Miller just flowes more smooth. Love it!!! Grew up with this being my favorite chick album!!!!

This line up didn't go over so well in 1993/1994. Chick Corea, Eric Marienthal and a completely new band? It is classic now, but at the time fans just didn't buy it without Weckl, Patitucci and Gambale.

@robertnobody i agree. back then, i attended a concert in my city and i was like "oh well, it sure is great to see all these superb musicians on stage together, but i'd rather have the "real" electric band". now, in hindsight, "paint the world" ranks as one of my top "electric band"-albums ever. it's just different, and sometimes, people need time to adjust to the fact.

I don't understand how anyone could not like this, if they like really intense fusion music! These guys are all absolute monsters. Way more soul than the first band! Those three guys are the players that I always wished Weckl, Pattitucci, and Gambale to be. They put soul into this insane jazz fusion music, something it so desperately needs to balance the cerebral clinical nature of so much of it. This was a really special band! Chops + Soul is a deadly combination and they had it! Especially Novak!
@miles-1786 жыл бұрын
Novak is my No.1 drummer !!!!!! has unbelievable jazz/swing flow with blasting rock energy ..... both sides from the life ... black/with .... thunder and feather , always when it´s neeeded ... and his chops ... way beyond weckl´s .....
@jonp48466 жыл бұрын
Anyone who doesn't think 7:12-7:23 isn't tight, has way too much class.... or perhaps thinks tight = playing everything stacatto ;) Novak is off the hook tight!
@midivalmunk80292 жыл бұрын
@@mootbooxle well put. This band was loose and organic rather than the pure technicians that Weckl and Gambale are. Gambale doesn't do anything for me and is best for finger exercises.
