A neighbor just gave me A Husqvarna 240 that he was going to throw away. This video is perfect timing for me! His starter pulley is ruined, he chewed it up where it won't grab and turn the engine. There's no bar, side panel screws missing, bar bolts missing, chain brake missing. LOL, he was done with it! I ordered the plastic pulley, I'll see if it will run and go from there. Your videos are always excellent! Thanks for posting them. Husqvarna has a good web page that shows parts and prices easily, that's very helpful.

All you need to do is remove the three screws on the throttle trigger handle and remove the trigger, lock, and spring. Very very simple and there is no need to pry on anything and opens it completely up to work on. Done dozens of them. Hope it helps. Great video.

The OLD MAN at EP saying thanks for the stickers and also hate to tear those saws down. We use a little two stroke oil to ease the installation of the fuel lines and the grommet. We all make mistakes trying to save the customer money but for the cost we basically replace the grommet when it is torn down. Very good video showing the teardown.

I liked this video but gotta disagree cleaning before repair is a great idea on a used/abused saw. Mine was not cleaned for a few years (I'm a diy guy) and there were oil soaked wood chips and sawdust so thick it was tough to find the screws). With a preliminary clean accomplished then teardown, carb removal and rebuild, fuel system filters and hoses and reassembly with fresh air filter and gaskets almost finish the job. Spark plug, chain replace and the machine should be ready for starting and mixture screw adjustments. This is a good video, but camera work could be better, hard to see what she was doing. Don't skimp on the cleaning ... half the time that's all thats needed.

Great video! And thanks for the info here. I got my grandfather's old Husqvarna chainsaw from the 70ies to run again after sitting many years. I replaced fuel line and filter as well as the chain, cleaned the carburettor and adjusted the idle a bit. Now she runs again!

That fuel line grommet got me on a Husky 455 a few months ago. Fuel went everywhere if you sat it on its side.

On the adjustment screws, I prefer to use a cut off wheel cut slots in the screws and use a small regular/flat screw driver to adjust. Easy, and not spending money I don't need to.

I just did all this service on my husquavarna a few weeks ago (fuel lines, filter, primer bulb, carb, plug, air filter, general clean, pulled muffler to check exhaust port) and was thinking it was kind of a pain having to remove the handle to get access. I did not replace that grommet, but it doesn't currently leak. Good to know that it's a possibility in the near future since the fuel line came out in pieces!

To put fuel line in the tank, I angle cut it, push it through the hole or grommet and grab it on the inside with my hemostats and pull it into the tank to he desired length. I then cut off the long angle cut, connect a new filter to it and push it back into the tank.

I alway pressure and vacuum test the tank as part of the engine check I perform on every piece of ODPE that comes in my shop. I also use nothing but Viton for my fuel lines, I've pulled lines on units that are 20 years old with viton and they are still pliable.

The most invaluable comment I’ve ever read on KZbin. Thank you for this. I wish I could send you my Husky 460 Rancher that I got for free. It needs a new cylinder installed (I bought an OEM cylinder). One guy has a video on KZbin showing a complete rebuild, but he uses loctite as a sealant for the case, crank, cylinder, etc… I dunno if that is the proper procedure…

@@garrettstevensen2467 I use a thin coat of Dirko sealant spread with a popsicle stick to seal my cases. A sealed crankcase is critical to a 2 cycle performance. The most valuable tool in my tool box is my pressure/vacuum pump.

I’m replacing disintegrated lines on my Husqvarna 235e, looks to be the same set up. The brittle line were all broken off inside the tank. This video showed me which line was the fuel puck up. I had it reversed with the primer bulb return. Thanks.

I use my air nozzle to blow most of the crud off before performing work...it's just better in the long run, you can see what's what a bit better, you don't get as much crud all over the place, etc etc....it to me is worth the 5 minutes....

Just wondering if the Echo saws hold up over time like the stihls? Anybody know. My friends new echo started 1st time easier than my stihl my stihl was 8.5 yrs old but started just like it did when new. Only cleaned filter and kept it blowed out dust I'm saying. With stihl hp.mix oil 50:1 never anything else. With ethanol15%.

great instruction video!. I got an early 80's husky 41 from a friend, was sitting for a number of years. Got one of the Chinese carbs for $10, replaced the fuel line (that was difficult), etc. Ran good for 15 to 20 minutes, then would not idle... Got a rebuild kit for the original walbro carb. Hopefully it will work fine!

If a tank has a grommet, I clean up the grommet and then coat the mating surface with 1184. I also make sure the fuel line is a tight fit in the grommet. I use the tightest Tyson line I can use for the fuel line, so it fits tight in the grommet but will still connect to the filter and carb. I gave my Husky 240 to my son in law.

I feel your pain this saw absolutely sucks!! I took apart the same 240 several times. Finally gave up and replaced the lines, bulb, rebuilt the carb and cleaned it. Sealed the fuel lines with aviation sealant and she works like a charm. Great trim saw for pallets and branches. PITA to work on.

Your videos are great as is this particular one on a Husqvarna 240. I myself have a Husqvarna 345 I got back about 15 years ago and it still runs great. It is interesting to see on being torn apart for this particular problem. I just thought I would tell you in case no one else has ever mentioned in that your sound changes at different points in your videos sometimes and this video was really easy to tell. Sometimes the sound is great but sometimes it gets difficult to hear you at the same volume. I just thought I would mention it to you.

You should hang on to your 345 it’s a great saw and easy to upgrade to a 353 cylinder and piston or better yet a 346 cylinder and piston, lots of iTube video on this,and use non- Ethanol gas

@@edbartlett6348 It is a great saw and I sometimes use it at work when needed because it is much more reliable than the Stihl MS 290 that I have for particular jobs, It still runs great and I never put anything but ethanol free gas in it.

I had one years ago that kept leaking after I changed fuel lines etc. brought it in and they replaced grommet. Somehow I missed that didn’t see it. Now I know. Good tutorial!

I usually put a little dab of grease on the bottom of the lifter spring to keep it from popping out and some on the lifter pin to keep it from sliding out of the lifter as I put the lifter back on to the carb. Gas will wash it out in a short period of time with no effect on the operation of the saw.

That’s why I always put a little 1184 on any tank grommet when I put it in the tank. I then pressure and vacuum test the gas line and tank with my Mighty Vac before I put things back together. This will catch any problems before I put them back together.

Seems that any maintenance where you need to replace the lines and fuel filter there should be an automatic grommet replacement. Cant be that expensive to add in and its always guaranteed to be good when the repair is done.

Awesome job as always. If I can I would like to make a suggestion....if the three screws on the handle is taken out the throttle rod can be removed from the trigger and that pain in the butt handle can be totally removed from the unit. Again would job and please keep the great videos coming.

I thought she forgot to put the gasket on as well, but I didn’t see it on the bench during assembly. It pays to look at what parts are leftover before everything is back together. Good video, as I have performed this task myself.

Hello, my name is Grumpy... and I'm a garage sale addict. I don't think I can even count high enough to tell you how many chainsaws, weed eaters, leaf blowers and even specialty tools, new filters, new plugs, at yard sales where the owner says "It ran great last year, this year, I've tried everything and just can't get it to pop." At one sale I picked up 2 Husqvarna leaf blowers AND a Stihl leaf blower.. All supposedly ran last year, owner said they were moving. I figure the Stihl was out of my ball park so I asked him how much one of the Husky's was (They were identical models) he said "It's late, I'm tired, $20.00" I gave him $20, picked up the Huskys and headed for my truck with a big smile.. I hear someone behind me and the guy says "Here, you might as well take the Stihl too.." I took them home, got out my fresh gas can, drained the old stuff in them, pulled the plugs and ran them on my wire wheel to give them a decent cleaning, sprayes a teeny bit of ether down the spark plug hole.. The Stihl cranked up and ran great 1st pull, the 1st Husky took 2 pulls, the second one took a little more finessing.. Sprayed a little bit of carb cleaner in the air filter, gave it a few turns to work it in.. On the 4th easy pull, I heard it pop twice, the next pull it fired up and ran great. Sold the Husky for $35 each, still have the Stihl as part of my own set of yard tools.. It's amazing how many people will tell you "It ran great last year." when they pushed it in the shed, leaving all that gas in it to gum them up, never thought about cleaning the foam filter or pulling the plug and getting what I call a wire tooth brush and cleaning the plug. I actually have had a few where I just dumped the gas, put fresh gas in it and they've fired up.. I'd love to enroll in an actual small engine course so I can work on the ones that I'm not so lucky on.. Granted, you're not going to sell a 5+ year old gas weed whacker to everyone that comes along looking for deals unless, they know that you fix things and back your work up.. And this year, my wife hurt me.. She went out and ordered a weed eater off AMAZON... A BATTERY powered one at that.. That's OK though, I put a metal bracket on the side of my riding mower, then ran cables to the battery to get some of that 12v juice, ran that through a cigarette lighter plug.. and the battery for my weedeater charges as I'm riding along.. Come to a spot along a fence lind, grab the weed eater, a little snip, snip here, a little trim, trim there, and it's on to the next fence post..

Use the thick part of round nose circlip pliers for removing the fuel lines they won't damage or cut the hose.

I called Husqvarna because I was worried they did what sthil did and made it part of their warranty saying that you have to run that crappy pre-mix fuel. Husqvarna assured me that there is nothing in their warranty saying you must run any type of fuel other than the properly mixed fuel and they actually recommended that I never run any premixed fuel even their own brand. They told me that the pre-mixed fuel is an option for people that do not have access to good clean fuel from the pump but I would be better off buying non-ethanol gasoline and mixing to the proper ratio with a good 2-stroke oil.

Noticed The line in the grommet is that yellow fuel line is why it leaked there at grommet factory fuel line is 5.7 mm od same as stihl impulse line for back pack blower the yellow fuel line is wrong size the 5mm od is to small and 6mm size is to big will close off Id to much starving it for fuel if use it for the main fuel line from filter to carb was on my 55 also noticed when putting back together you use the black fuel line was it the oem

I have a Big box store branded Chinese engined hedge trimmer that had the same problem. The fuel lines passed through a grommet that had decayed to mush, with no chance of a replacement. I ended up machining a custom 'thing' in aluminium with nitrile O-rings to make an adaptor to take the lines in and out of the tank. Hours of work for a £50 trimmer. There's this idea with industrial designers that you must hide all the works, even in cars they hide all the fastenings that hold the trim on. The result is to mystify the working, 'this is not for you, leave it to the professionals.' Why is the air filter hidden? why do the hide the carb adjustments?

I have a Husky 235 which looks almost identical to this one, I changed the fuel line because the filter rotted off of it, and put a kit in the carb. I don't recall there being a grommet where the fuel line passes through to the tank on this one though, it was a PITA to get it through. I cleaned that brass sintered fitting for the vent while I was in there. It runs great now but yes they are a PITA to take apart. When I took it apart I did take the handle apart to get the throttle lever loose.... PS what's the easiest chainsaw to work on? Echo? or Stihl?

Have rebuilt more of those carbs than care to mention. And know for a fact that 50 % of them are junk. They have a check valve in the main jet that can be bad,, even in new carbs. I don't rebuild them anymore. I replace them . And it's not worth replacing the jet in them , to time consuming. Nothing more frustrating than spending time to clean and rebuild a card only to find out it still work right. 'Time is money " . I've done it a hundred times. Sorry to be so glum about it but I hate those carbs. As always great job 👍

Hi Chic. I had one of those little Huskies and it wouldn't start. The Mankanic said that a piece of the carburettor had come loose and gone into the cylinder, so I bought another machine that I still use today- periodically for wood turning blanks which was a 2006 Husquvarna 340e Great machine. Any thoughts?

Use Mopar combustion cleaner on rubber components. Makes installation easy.especially grommets

If I have a loose grommet I will usually put a little TB 1184 on the grommet and push it into the tank and put a little 1184 on the fuel line and push it into the grommet. 1184 will stop them from leaking because it is fuel resistant.

I have Husquvarna 235 They replaced the spark plug and air filter Worked for awhile but now it wont idle I drained the gas and noticed no gas filter only gas line I assume all Husquvarnas have gas filters. I see something inside but I think its a small tube vent. It would explain why it doesnt run when you pull the trigger And stalls
