Steve, you are a huge time saver for me. I recently acquired a Homelite chainsaw. I dismantled and cleaned the carb, but could not get the thing to work. I worked on it for hours! Your fuel line example was great. Turned out the fuel lines had been previously replaced incorrectly. I reworked new lines based on your example and Voila, it worked! I've seen a few of your other videos and they are excellent. Thanks

I did remove all the lines, but not on purpose! While living on a US Army post they privatized housing and the contractor started mowing the lawns, it was no longer up to the occupants. After I retired, I was dusting off my old, long unused line trimmer. I was using a soft bristle brush and you can imagine my surprise when I brushed away the fuel lines! These videos are so informative, you are one of the content providers I recommend to others when they don't want to pay me to work on their machines. Stay safe!

Hi Steve, had to come back and watch again as a refresher. My blower after working great for months, is not starting. When I squeeze the bulb, I am not seeing any fuel in the bulb. I plan to open up the bad boy tomorrow to make sure that the fuel lines are not obstructed or kinked. Any words of wisdom for me while I have the blower opened up for surgery? Thanks again for making this video for us dummies.

Thanks for explaining the obvious to most. I bought a “broken” Husky chainsaw that wouldn’t start. The fuel lines were backwards on the PURGE bulb. (I did NOT know the difference as to bulb location) I ASSume primer bulb is on Stihl. Purge bulb is on Husky. But anyway. Thanks for taking the time to help us and save us money. You REALLY do a good job of KISS and explaining in detail why stuff works. That really helps!!!

it is a prime bulb not a purge bulb. purge means to remove and you are not removing fuel you are adding fuel to the carb. this guys means well but he is calling a priming pump a purge bulb which is incorrect.

@@paulk5311 It all depends on how you think about it so it could be called either one. You could think of it as purging the system of air or think of it as priming the system with fuel.

Just bought a toro t25 for 10 bucks at a flea market. It looked like it wanted to run, so took it home an realize it needed this purge bulb. Watched this video, Went back to flea market, and got one for 2 bucks, back home installed it and it runs good. If it wasn't for this video I would have been trying to fiddle with it and the carb wasting time. It really made me understand how different this system works from what I knew.

Hey, I just wanted to give you a quick "shout out 'thanks!'" for clearly explaining HOW this device actually works. Lots of other videos said, "don't install it backwards," but never said WHY. No one ever pointed out the tiny word, "IN." No one pointed out that it SIPHONS fuel through the carburetor and exhausts it back to the tank. You SHOWED us. On my chain saw, the entire assembly blew off and was lost in the woods. Armed with your very clear explanation and then demonstration of how this thing does what it does, I was quickly able to discern which hose went to the carburetor and which one therefore must go back to the fuel tank, thus which one had to go where on the bulb, and why it mattered. Thanks to you, I was able to finish the repair quickly and correctly. "Outstanding!"

P.S. As I replaced the (Stihl-brand) bulb on my Stihl, I was very surprised to see that the ring on the unit where the bulb must attach really didn't match the shape of the two tabs. I managed to fit the piece by inserting it and then twisting it. I expected to find a ring-fitting like the one that is used on the fuel and oiler caps, but it didn't look that way at all - and I suspect that this is a big reason why the last bulb got lost in the woods! "I got it to stay, but I fear it could slip." (And it's a Stihl-brand part ... that I probably paid too much for. Looks though just like the one you list above.) Would love to see clarification on things like this in future videos.

Thank you for this video, it resolved my issue. I have a husqvarna 125B which only ran at half choke, according to some videos the problem was the tube to the gas filter being broken. I but a new tube in and then it wouldn’t run any more. I ended up replacing the carburetor, ignition coil, gas filter and air filter, still no luck. After watching this video I saw that the blower tubes were not connected that way. The original out tube from the carburetor was the return going into the fuel tank. I know this was how it was as the tube was short ant one end was tapered to go into the grommet. When I ran the tubes according to you, the blower runs great. Thank you for all your easy to understand videos. This was my first small engine repair attempt, next is a ryobi backpack blower that I put the wrong gas in and seized up the engine. I ordered a new cylinder and piston assembly so I’ll see if I’ve learned anything about small engines.

Thanks Steve,, helped me out alot. Just had a saw brought to me. Guy said it was running fine then stopped,, I havnt touched it. Stupidly I believed him, went straight for the carb. Turned out,, HE had messed with the Purge bulb and reversed the pipes. Sorted and running now. Thanks to your Cut Away system. Enjoy your beer. Big thumbs up from Wales UK. 👍

Perfect pictorial demonstration for us Steve. Does the gas flow go to the top of the carb and out the bottom. I would like to define where exactly the carb inlet is located?

I just made the mistake of swapping out the carburetor and fuel lines on my husqvarna weed eater without labeling the four lines. I’ve tried trial and error swapping them out different ways and still haven’t got the right combination. Had to walk away from it a couple of times before I ended up hurling it across the yard. Can’t find any schematics on how it fits properly. Lesson learned ... take a picture of the damn thing before you start or label the lines. 🤪🤪 I realized after watching this there are only three lines. You probably saved me a new weed eater because I was about to wrap this thing around a tree. Thank you Sir! This is more than a work of art ... it’s a game changer.

Damn, I learned something new today. I thought that bulb was a prime bulb not a purge bulb. I replaced my lines and bulb on a weed eater several years ago. I did not get anything mixed up because I made a sketch before I started. Great video Steve, I am 77 I sure wished u tube videos were available years ago.

Perfect explanation / demo setup. I was on the verge of throwing my Kawasaki backpack blower in the trash. I even replaced the carburetor (which wasn’t necessary). I had the line going to the bulb first vs carb first. You’re a godsend.

I accidentally reversed the fuel lines on the purge bulb after installing a carb rebuild kit, and chainsaw would only run to half-throttle before bogging down. Naturally I was suspicious of the rebuild kit, but disassembly showed nothing wrong.. so I turned to Steve's video on the purge valve just to make sure I had the purge lines correct. Turns out I didn't, and that was the problem.. the one-way check valve in the purge line is critical to proper carb operation.. boy can these little annoying problems really kick your ass sometimes - and get you downright fuming. In the process, I also discovered that my replacement fuel lines were a little too big/loose, and at high rpm fuel was spitting out of the connections to the purge bulb, so now I need to order OEM fuel lines, to get this chainsaw finally back to factory condition. Thanks Steve.

THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!! I have not been able to get my Husqvarna 455 to work for years. First the fuel line rotted so I replaced that and it was all down hill from there. I would put it away for a year or two, then pull it out and try to get it running again, changed the carb, everything. I thought it might be the fuel lines hooked up wrong, but I could see that gas was going INTO the carb from the bulb. After your video I reversed the lines on the PURGE bulb and it runs like new! Thanks again !!
