This is fast food, only homemade. Best of both worlds. Someone wise once said "Don't eat anything that your great-grandmother wouldn't recognize as food." "It's not food if it arrived through the window of your car." "Eat meals." "Cook." For me, canning is the ultimate convenience food.

Carol Avant there was another one that said something to the effect that if you pronounce it the same and all languages don't eat it. (Think Cheetos, Doritos, Big Mac) and "eat sweet foods as you find them in nature." I can't seem to remember the name of that author but I'll come up with that and come back here.

OldAlabamaGardener I subscribed! I made like 5 batches of this already and I just can’t figure out if my jars are sealed or not. I’m new to canning but my earlier cans had deeper dimples in the Sure Tight lids. If the lid is tight and does not move when depressed with my finger, and I can even pick up the whole jar by the lid, yet I cannot see that dimple depressed, does that indicate a failed seal or do you think I am safe? I am so new to this.
@OldAlabamaGardener4 жыл бұрын
@@Escapeofthebride777 I don't think you have a failed seal. Some lid show the depression more than other lids.If you can cup your hand over the top of the jar and barely get your finger tips holding the lid and lift the jar, then it is sealed. An unsealed jar, the lid would lift easy. How many days has it been since you canned them? And if you want to correspond via E-mail, put your E-mail address here, I will copy it and then remove it. So glad to have found your channel!! Yes, I have a garden and four chickens - Life is grand in my little Central Florida suburb! I'm doing everything I can to make life on what little Social Security I'm going to get easier! I learned to can and preserve from my maternal Grandmother and one of my aunts - Time well-spent. I scrimped and saved and bought a house without a HOA with an irrigation well 7 years ago, and do all I can to prepare for my 66th birthday (and departure from the full-time workforce!) in 1 year, 9 months and two weeks...... :)

WOW! You are an achiever! I am 78 years old and still going! I used to have chickens but right now I don't have any. Central FL, would that be around Orlando? OAG
@carolavant37787 жыл бұрын
78?!! Bless your heart! Just a little northeast of Orlando, Sanford, FL. It's not so crazy here. Not so many tourists. Since I bought this place, I've had privacy fencing installed, had an area fenced on for the garden, and invested in an enclosed composter (ComposTumbler) that will hold 9 bushels of material without stinking out the neighbors. The chickens are great garden partners - I use hay in the coop for litter and compost it with yard and kitchen waste. I harvested a load of compost today and started a new batch. The garden is prett much fallow until mid-September. Just too hot to do much, and I like to see how the weather is before I start my Fall/Winter garden. They're going to be really mad when that happens, LOL. I let them free-range in the back yard and garden (they eat weeds, weed seeds, bugs, grubs, and till the land). After I get the garden going again, I have a PVC and chicken wire portable run that will allow them to work an area until I'm ready to plant and keep them from disturbing planted areas. I'm also planning to put in a couple of apple and pear trees this Fall. I love gardening and preserving! Keeps me out of trouble!

I just bought and canned 54lbs of chicken breast!! I did a test run and OMG it was great but I have a large family so I canned the chicken by itself (with seasonings) we made chicken and gravy for biscuits and goodness, it was so good.

That looks deeelish!! I love canning chicken. You're so right about browning it first too. I found (like so many others) if you raw pack chicken it gets too flaky and resembles canned tuna in taste and texture. I happen to like tuna myself but NOT tuna flavored chicken! LOL 😂 Browning it just like you makes it so much better! I LOVE this recipe of yours too. It's such a great starter for so many dishes. You could use it as you did, you could make chicken and dumplings, chicken soup, chicken pot pie, on and on and on! Your method is just perfect and so versatile. I also never would have thought to use my canned potatoes for potato salad either! That's BRILLIANT! I'm telling you you're just absolutely the best. I'm so grateful for all you do. Hello folks, I wish i could let watchers know what great flavors are in this food. Canning chicken is easy and very worth while. On the rim of the jar, if it isn't very clean the lid will not seal, that is what you must remove any trace of grease from the cooking. Thanks for stopping by. OAG

@OldAlabamaGardener7 жыл бұрын
Hello and thank you for your comment. When you put the lid on the canner it is full of air. But what you want in the canner is steam, so venting for ten minutes removes the air and the canner is then full of steam. Steam is what heats the jars and contents up to 240 degrees, not boiling water. Thanks for stopping by. OAG

I can something similar. I make a chicken stew that I can turn into chicken and dumplings or serve over noodles or use it to make homemade chicken pot pie. I also can chicken or turkey by itself in jelly jars for making chicken salad. The jelly jars are the perfect size. I can brunswick stew, chili, and all kinds of soups. You can do the same things with beef stew that you home can. And you should try canning dried beans. Very handy to have in your pantry. And you know exactly what is in all those beautiful jars! By the way, we are neighbors. I live in GA. Enjoy your videos!

Hello Jenn, yes, you could do this with turkeys. I think at the holidays when turkeys are on sale would be a great time to buy and can. Are you still traveling? C.

Ok charles, you got my attention! Question when you trying the chicken first do you fry till chicken all the way done or just a little on both sides ?
@OldAlabamaGardener3 жыл бұрын
Just brown it on both or all sides. The pressure canning will cook it completely done.

You are just absolutely the cutest! Great job with your instructions and I plan to do this. I have a lot of meat I just bought because my freezer lost power while on vacation for nine days and I’m taking insurance check to replenish some of what I lost. But I plan to can it all and only have mostly veggies in the three freezers this time. How do you think this would turn out if adding zucchini and yellow squash? Thank you for taking time to do your videos. ❣️💗
