It looks easy because it is easy. The spokeshave needs to be sharp and set so there's not much blade protruding through the baseplate. You need to use long steady strokes with a firm pressure - it doesn't take too long to get the hang of it.

Excellent as always John. You have always made very informative videos I've watched for years. For myself I always use hand tools as feel is the way to go when creating my necks and some other components. As an aside is there a Boxstock this year John; i appreciate there is a lot into putting on an event like Boxstock. It was my first Boxstock last year and thoroughly enjoyed the event. I just cannot find or see any other events in the UK for like minded people like myself and my partner to meet up and attend, it seems like most CBG/Roots events are mainly in the USA. Also please could I ask where you can purchase the hand saw type curved rasp you used in this video. Cheers.

Boxstock is being organised right now, it will be October in Birmingham, we've just got to line up a few more people and finalise the date. I've checked and it looks like the curved "Microplane" rasps are no longer being made.

@@ChickenboneJohn That's great news about Boxstock in October, looking forward to it; I just hope the date does not fall at the last weekend in October as I am booked to go to the Goth weekend in Whitby where I play over the weekend. Thanks for the info on the rasp, I have got standard rasps which are OK but I may purchase one of those Shinto rasps.
