This clip shows two things: 1) Chico's unique style as a pianist (the way he used his right index finger), and 2) Harpo's virtuosity on one of his "secondary" instruments.

Love the way Chico almost cracks up towards the end. Also a beautiful acknowledgement of their childhood, as Minnie only had enough money to send Chico for piano lessons. He was indeed expected to teach his younger siblings. He never really got around to it, with Harpo playing largely by ear. I will never ever get tired of this clip.

I read a different version some years ago. It was Harpo who got the piano lessons, no more than a half dozen or so. Chico then got interested in the instrument, and taught himself to play; eventually getting good enough to hire himself out to bars and bordellos. When his schedule was overloaded, he would send Harpo to cover. They looked so much alike, no one knew the difference. While Chico stuck primarily with the piano, Harpo taught himself to play a variety of instruments. His grandmother's harp was his favorite.

This is the best and truest type of entertainment - sincere, simple and funny. These were times when radio, film, and eventually television were uncharted territory. It was safe and enchanted millions of people and especially the young. Unfortunately, we can never bring it back, but I believe that we should preserve what we do have as much as possible for present and future generations as examples and role models that we sadly lack today. Now it seems to be about the increasingly ignorant passing this along to the next generation of poisoned minds. Not just the media, but ethics, morals, faith, and it goes on and on. I personally love ProgRock because of it's creativeness and imagination, harmony, beauty, and musical skills. I have amassed an ever growing library of this genre of music and video to play for people. There are movies and TV shows as well. I want this to last by passing quality along to others.

**REALITY CHECK** We need to look to *OURSELVES* for the real reason why it's long gone. Beginning in the 1960's, comics offered us clean comedy and *WE DIDN'T WANT IT ANY MORE*!! We wanted the dirty stuff. So, "new" comics like Moms Mabley & Buddy Hackett (and later, Rodney Dangerfield) supplied the market. It's been that way ever since...

Chico when very young played piano in a bordello. After he decided to leave he got Harpo the job. Harpo wrote about it in his autobiography, Harpo Speaks. Another fact about Harpo Marx that may surprise people is that he spied on the Soviet Union for the united states, I think that was during WW2, but I could be wrong about when he did it. Another Marx who was even more remarkable was Zeppo Marx, and obviously not for his films. He was a famous agent for Hollywood, but where he really shined was inventing things. He made the first watch that checked heart rate. He also invented the stabilization system for the atomic bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

@@SpeckleKen I do know YOU KNOW THE MESSIAH IS NOT A WOMAN. NOT 1 PERSON HAS EVER GIVEN TESTIMONY OF SO. AND YOU KNOW IT TO BE A FACT OF SO. Babra is, AS YOU DO KNOW, is ONLY a MERE HUMAN BEING AS YOU AND I AND ALL HUMANS ON ELOHIM' ENTIRE CREATED EARTH. ANS SHE KEEPS BREAKING HER PROMISES OF LEAVING THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA--El Shaddai--God Almighty, Yahoshua--Joshua AND The Ruach Hokadesh--The Holy Spirit AS WELL, THE ELOHIM'HAS NEVER EVER BROKEN ANY 1 of their promises. JUST AS WELL HAS NEVER EVER broken any 1 Covenant of ALL THE COVENANTS WERE MADE. As ELOHIM is COMPLETELY, WHOLY UN-ABLE TO LIE--JUST UN-ABLE TO DO SO. ELOHIM has never EVER TOLD 1 LIE. Barbra MUST accept Yahoshua and repent JUST AS ANYBODY ELSE and must repent JUST AS ANYBODY ELSE or when her body dies JUST AS ANYBODY ELSE DOES, her spirit will be taken into Hell, not into Heaven GYST AS ANYBODY ELES WILL BE, AND ALONG WITH EVERY person who 'claims' to be a 'Christian' a 'Believer' yet who has never, ever been FOLLOWING YAHOSHUA as been ONLY COMPLETELY DIS-OBEYING HIM BY NOT DOING ANY 1 THING HE TEACHES--COMMANDS TO BE doers of 'THE WORD'who IS YAHOSHUA THE Messiah--THE CHRIST---THE Anointed One, AND NOT JUST a hearer only. ALL the 'claims' to being WILL NOT BE GOING TO HEAVEN---HE MAKES THAT VERY CLEAR IN THE BIBLE AS VERY MUCH SO DOES EL SHADDAI--GOD ALMIGHTY "Whoever BELIEVES IN MY ONLY BEGOTTEN SON will not perish". They have NEVER EVER spoken to be JUST TO HEAR THEIR OWN VOICE. Also, KEN I AM absolutely FULL AWARE, AS YOU DO KNOW I AM, of your entire very, very sad sorry comment is PURELY OF YOU JUST FULLY MOCKING YOUR, AND EVERY PERSON'S CREATORS, AND OF YAHOSHUA HAVEN TOOK ALL THINGS JUST FOR YOU KEN, AS WELL FOR ME AND FOR EACH AND EVERY PERSON IN THE ELOHIM' ENTIRE CREATED WORLD. Yahoshua is "THE SAME YESTERDAY, TODAY AND FOREVER" as Yahoshua still does and will always be doing of all HE was doing when HE first was sent down here on earth from Heaven of all was to be done. Yahoshua IS THE ONLY GIVER OF EVERY ONE OF ALL MY MIRACULOUSLY HEALINGS OF BEEN MANY DIFFERENT THINGS AND AILMENTS ALL OF WHICH WAS WITNESSED BY OTHERS AS HE ALWAYS AND ONLY DOES SO AS THERE IS TO ALWAYS BE WITNESSES OF ALL HE DOES---ALWAYS MIRACULOUSLY DOES. Barbra Streisand has NEVER HEALED ME, NOR HAS SHE BEEN GIVEN TO MIRACULOUSLY HEAL AT ALL, SHE MOST CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE, IS GIVING TESTIMONIES OF ALL SHE WAS GIVEN AND HAD MIRACULOUSLY DONE, IS DOING. As EVERYBODY KNOWS how SO VERY MUCH Barbra is very OUTSPOKEN--DO YOU REALLY THINK SHE WOULD NOT BE GIVEN TESTIMONIES OF ALL THINGS SHE RECEIVED BY THE RUACH HOKADESH--THE HOLY SPIRIT GIVEN TO HER FROM YAHOSHUA? NOT BE TELLING THE WORLD OF HOW SHE CAME TO ACCEPT HER MESSIAH--CHRIST--ANOINTED ONE PROMISED TO HER AND OTHE 'NATIONS/GENTILES'? As well ALL THROUGHOUT MY ENTIRE LIFE Yahoshua has always SENT TO ME, FOR ME SO MANY TIMES HIS Angels of which SOME I HAVE FELT BRUSH MY DRESS AS EACH ONE WAS PASSING BEHIND ME. 2 other OCCASIONS I have seen 1 of HIS Angels AS BOTH TIMES THE ANGEL WAS THE VERY EXACT SAME ONE AS THERE WAS NOT 1 THING DIFFERENT OF THAT ANGEL OF HIS I SAW 2 TIMES---A YEAR APART. 2 other SEPARATE OCCASIONS 2 different persons was shown HIS Angels HE HAD SENT TO, FOR ME, A lady saw 1 of HIS Angels standing RIGHT UP VERY CLOSE TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY BODY. Several months LATER a 14 years old girl was over my home and as she and I doing the teachings--commands of Yahoshua SUDDENLY SHE SAW 6 OF YAHOSHUA'S ANGELS FLYING ALL AROUND MY ROOM AND SHE SAW HIS HUGE, EXTREMELY HUGE, VERY EXTREMELY BRGT RIGHT HAND OVER MY HEAD A I WAS GIVEN 8, 9 OR 10 NEW DIVERSE TONGUES ALL OF MAN'S LANGUAGE EXCEPT FOR 1, AS ONLY 1 WAS AN ANGEL'S LANGUAGE.

I do not get on and dis-play child-like antics as like you and a lot of child-like adults that get on electronic devices do and act and type such things and of the words they, you all do. PEOPLE GET A HOBBY AS LL PEOPLE USED TO., But then MY MAMA WAS NOTHING AS YOURS IS/WAS AND YOURS HAS NOT 1 THING TO BE PROUD OF HOWS SHE DID NOT DO HER PARENTAL DUTIES. My Beloved Mama--who has now been with her LORD well over 20 years--KNEW how to PROPERLY bring-up and raise her children AND TO BE THERE FOR A YOUNG GIRL WHO WAS EXTREMELY ABUSED BY HER BOYFRIEND AS SHE WOULD HEAR HER BOYFRIEND YELLING AND BEATING HER AND HER CRYING ON THE SIDE OF OUR HOUSE EARLY MORNING ON WAY TO SCHOOL. MY MOTHER, AS ONE, DID BACK THEN, WOULD CORRECT ANY CHILD AS WERE VERY ILL-MANNERED AS YOU VERY OBVIOUSLY WERE WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD AS YOU ARE SHOWING YOU STILL ARE OF WHAT AND HOW YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN. My Beloved Mama would most definitely have had a talk with you she would be very firm yet still at the same time be very nice yet she would not take any attitude from you. You should BY NOW KNOW HOW TO BE ACTING AND TYPING/TALKING BY NOW--WHY DON'T YOU START RIGHT NOW, TODAY TO ACT YOUR AGE AND GROW UP. My Beloved Mama was AT ALL TIMES a very proper child as even as a toddler who ABSOLUTELY ADORED, VERY MUCH LOVED AND ALWAYS RESPECTED HER DADDY AND MOM. WAS ALWAYS VERY RESPECTFUL TO ALL ADULTS AND ALL AUTHORITiVE FIGURES. SHE WAS NEVER, EVER A RUDE CHILD NOR WAS EVER MEAN TO ANY OTHER CHILDREN AT SCHOOL NOR OUT OF, AWAY FROM SCHOOL She was ALWAYS EXTREMELY highly complimented on how very well-mannered her Children always was during all her visits of whenever went to go over to visit her School-mate's parents houses as she had forever gone to visit as they had known her since she was 10 years old and all the so many times when she went to go visit all of her friends she's had since 10 years old AND WE HAVE KNOWN ALL OF THEM OUR ENTIRE LIFE--EVEN THOSE OF HER CLASS-MATES, SCHOOL-MATES WE HAD NEVER EVER MET YET IS AS IF WE HAVE PERSONALLY KNOWN EACH ANE EVERY ONE OF THEM OUR WHOLE LIFE. When she was in High-School her teenaged friends were always told by their Mothers when asked if could go to the movie theatre AND ANY SCHOOL EVENTS at night, their Mothers ALL OF THE GIRLS WERE EACH TOLD THEY COULD NOT GO. THEN EACH MOTHER WOULD ASK IF OUR MOTHER WAS GOING, AND WHEN THEY WERE TOLD OF SHE WILL BE, THEN AND ONLY THEN EACH MOTHER WOULD TELL THEIR DAUGHTER/S THEY CAN GO ONLY BEING AS MY MOtHER WAS GOING TO BE WITH THEM. I have yet to ever known an adult who never would act their own age was a grown-up. Also, Very obvious you were born either 1980 or from since then as you were not at all taught TO HAVE ANY GOOD MANNERS. ALSO, MY MAMA WORKED BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL EVERYDAY SINCE SHE WAS 10 YEARS OLD TO HELP HER DADDY AND MOM, AND SO THAT HER LITTLE SIBLINGS COULD HAVE TOYS, LOTS OF TOYS AS SHE THOUGHT ALL CHILDREN SHOULD HAVE. AND NO, SHE WAS NOT TOLD TO NOR WAS EVEN NICELY, VERY LOVINGLY, CARINGLY ASKED OF TO SO CAN HELP THE FAMILY AS MY BEST GOD GAVE TO US GRAND-DAD AND GRAND-MA WERE ALWAYS EXTREMELY POOR BUT HAD THE BIGGEST HEART FOR ALL OF THEIR CHILDREN AND THEIR CHILDREN'S FRIENDS INTO THEIR ADULT-HOOD AS THEY HAFD FOR EVERY ONE OF THEIR GRAND-CHILDREN AND THEIR FRIENDS. HER WAYS HAD NOT BEEN OVER-LOOKED AND NOT BEEN NOT SEEN BY ELOHIM. WELL, BUT THEN SHE WAS BORN OF BEING AS SHE WA TO HER LAST BREATH AND LAST THOUGHT. I do not know what you call the Nw Testament? IN MY BIBLE, NO NOT ONCE ANYWHERE DOES YAHOSHUA LIE. I HAVE NOTHING TO GAIN BY TELLING ANY UN-TRUTHS WHEREAS YOU HAVE SO MUCH TO LOSE BY NOT BELIEVING. AND I DOI KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT AS THE OTHER ONE---WELL BY THE HOLY SPIRIT I DO KNOW HE IS WHERE HE CHOSE TO SPEND ALL ETERNITY---HE IS SO VERY MOST DEFINITELY IN HELL., JUST AS I HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO KNOW OF SOME OF MY LOVED ONES ACCEPTED YAHUSHUA AND WAS TAKEN TO HEAVEN AS HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN GIVEN TO ME 'DREAMS' IN THE BIBLICAL SENSE ABOUT, OF AND FOR MANY PEOPLE IN MY LIFE OR HAD ANY CONNECTIONS TO ME IN-DIRECTLY EVEN. Tim Travasos Not when you are that talented… It’s just pure excitable fun. As an oboist though, I would like to agree with you that it is very difficult playing the oboe seriously while carrying on a comedic routine. But now that I think about it… I would know how to perform with a little bit of hilarity.

An immensely talented family, which I grew up watching and laughing at. These fellas were the blueprint for today's humour, it's just that today's comics don't know that the stand on the shoulders of these giants. Two generations have now grown up not knowing who the Marx brothers were, as they are never shown. Mind you, they don't know who Laurel and Hardy were either. Tragic.

And a brilliant harpist as well. I can tell, as I’ve been playing oboe for almost 55 years. Opera, symphonic and chamber. That was an era where every actor had to sing dance and act with prolific efficiency to be considered for the industry. Now all you have to be is young and pretty and skinny with the money to afford rehab every five years.
