If this man were to come from countries where talent is recognized they ought to have started studying his music in our university along with that of Fela and KSA

Juju Music at its BEST; the Chief Commander at his BEST. I never cease to almost cry listening to this legendary and exotic piece of music from Yorubaland. A masterpiece that still stands the test of time. The musical and instrumental arrangements, infusion and expert playing are next to none. Just listen to the combination of the varoius instruments. Kudo to ALL members of the Inter-Reformers Band, dead and alive. I just can't ever get over this music. Thanks and God bless you, Chief Commander, for the memories.

I had always enjoyed Ebenezer Obey's music, very talented musician and very religious. Though I listened to the instruments than trying to understand the language in Yoruba. All of Obey's songs are age resistant meaning both old and new generations enjoy them equally. He is my Chief Ebenezer Obey and long life my great artist.

The Nigerian musical scene was in the 50s and 60s dominated by Ibos and other Eastern Nigerian musicians, and many night clubs played songs from the likes of Celestine Okwu, Cardinal Lawson, Osadabe, Victor Wifor from the then Mid West, and many others. Highlife music that started in Ghana became the central musical favor or taste for Nigerians. However, with the war in 1967 through 1970, high life declined and in many parts of Nigeria, folks started looking for musical appetite to substitute their cultural appitites. Hence Obey, Ade and others in the Yoruba helped the transformation of their juju songs into prominence , especially in the Yoruba land, and this transformation moved to every region in Nigeria till today. After the war, though many highlife musicians from the former Eastern Nigeria started from where they left, but many died in motor accidents and the public appetite for their songs dwindled. Fela Kuti and other Yoruba artists like Segun Burknor infused English and pigin languages into their music with their Yoruba drums. This acclimated their popularity not only in Nigeria but across Africa. The Ibo, just coming back from the war, went wild with American style of music to counter any tribal dominance. For example, the Apostles, and many others entertained the East with good musical tastes. In the 80s, giants like Orientals embedded their old held Ibo repertoire of high life to their Ibo heritage. For the past five years or more, young musicians from all corners of Nigeria have embedded their cultural appitites in their songs and the European rhythms for maximum universal taste. Musicians like Davido, Burna boy, Remi, Flavor and many others have done an excellent job producing high quality songs for universal taste. Music is a fad, like clothing. It goes through a transformation. Those that stick to the same rhythm fade away, and no artist did this better than Michael Jackson. His songs lasted for a decade and can be okayed and played anywhere in the world with the same enthusiasm and admiration. I cherish the accomplishments of our Nigerian musicians and urge them to continue to make songs for Nigerians, Africa and the world in general. There must be greater research to know where music is going and adapt to that flow. Failure to follow that transformation would lead to the end of that musician. To the young Nigerian musicians, your audience is large and they love you. Stop letting the media use you to fight one another. Edify your brothers and your sisters and that is how other races get to the top. Stop wasting your energies on who has what, or how rich is the other musician. Research well, get back to the studio and feed the audience with good music. Nigerians and the world need you and your songs. God bless

Ladies and Gentlemen, I want you to write down this prediction. Please, NOTE it. Here it is: There'll be studies of Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey and King Sunny Ade's music in the Higher Institutions of Learning in Nigeria and outside Nigeria. It will surely happen in the future. Did you see FELA on the BROADWAY? I saw it in NEW YORK City. It was great. I made that prediction back in 1998. I received many calls from those who witnessed my prediction at the debut of FELA on the Broadway in 2011.

"100 kobo is equal to 1 Naira; Naira and kobo la o ma na....." This takes me down memory lane. One of the tenants in our unit, in Ebute Metta Lagos, had these two heavy speakers. He had one facing the main road and the other facing our compound. From dawn to dusk, this man would blare music of Moses Ola, Adeolu Akinsanya, Haruna Ishola, Ebenezer Obey, Sunny Ade, etc to the extent that we all got used to the noise, and we kids memorized the lyrics from A to Z (including the beats and guitar strings, lol). Obey and Sunny were two of my favorites, and I am glad that their music is still making impact in the lives of people all over the world. It's sad that people don't make music like this anymore.

Profound memories ha!.I was a young students nurse in London in late 80s surrounded by Nigerians ,Ghanaians,Caribbean and African diaspora going to Brixton market and soaking up a world with endless possibilities. Peter Tosh, Bobb Marley and Fela came on the scene later smoking blunts in the park.lol.I'll name a few of my favorites pay attention to the word "FEW" I lost my mind when the N'kanga with platform boots landed in London, Prince Nico mbaga and the rockafill jazz singing sweet mother. I could hardly breathe with excitement! Met King Sunny Ade in USA years later.Osita Osadebe,Chief Ebenezer Obey,Oliver de Cocqe etc.Miriam Makeba,Mariam Hassan (Sahara) Cameron de la Isla,Sizzla,Conchita Buicka,Maritu Legesse(Ethiopia ) Kanda Bongo I could go on forever I'm definitely a lover of music of the world.Be well and keep on dancing and living. Greetings from Bay area.
