As an Amenra fan for a year now and having seen them live, probably knowing all their songs, I think I can say this is one of the best and most underrated bands ever, I definetely recommend "A solitary Reign" and "Am Kreuz"(my favourite)

Hey mate - I came to this video by chance. Thanks for being adventurous and reacting to this challenging music. Amenra's an important band to me. There have been so many evenings that I've sat and listened to De Doorn with my demons, and just sat and let the emotions that it evokes wash over me. I saw them live once, at Arctangent 2022, and flew from South Africa to specifically see them. This record was originally composed by the band on commission from the Belgian government as part of a public art project for the centenary of the first world war, with the aim of helping the people experiencing the art process unacknowledged loss. I'm not Dutch, but I speak Afrikaans, which is so close that I can understand the written language, and the poetic subtext of the lyrics is similar in both languages. It is beautiful and brutally raw.

Land of night Eyebright A new harvest is here Spring is near Touched by a darkened hand In a new land Where silence reigns Heartbeat Butchered heart called upon it has been done Holy ground rendered up Raped, it is done Heartbeat The heartbeat quickens The father nods to ease their fright bids them goodnight The mother's face stares into space her last embrace in heaven bright The child they bore departs forevermore My bones shattered I stand before you, ruined and lost forever --- nachtland ogentroost een nieuwe oogst de lente is nabij de donkere hand aangetast het nieuwe land de stilte nooit voorbij hart slag slag veld ik werd verwacht het is volbracht gewijde grond ontlijkt verkracht, het is volbracht ik werd verwacht hart slag slag ader de vader berust en stelt hen wel gerust en welterust hartslag de hartslag versnelt de moeder haar gezicht ten gronde gericht haar armen geheven de hemel verlicht het kind die ze baarde zag ze nooit meer terug mijn knoken gebroken ik sta nu voor jou gebroken voor altijd verloren

Always a treat seeing someone react to Amenra. By far my favorite band. My introduction was live, at Roadburn Festival in 2016, and it changed my life.

Yes, this is what Amenra does. It's also their first full album in their native Flemish language.

Thanks Sam. That was certainly an experience! I had to look up the lyrics and found this description of the song and yep, good explanation! “Amenra experience is equal parts religious ritual and existential nightmare. When the haunting melodic vocals begin to weave in and out of the screams, it feels like a spirit has been summoned to witness your body being torn apart. As the song becomes more and more tribal from here, the ritualistic atmosphere grows until finally the main riff decimates anything left of the listener, leaving nothing but scorched earth where they once stood. This album is the absolute opposite of “accessible”.” And so since it’s the opposite of accessible it was cool in my book.

This sounds like my existential dread feels. Very cathartic. Hi Sam, thanks for that 👋 😅

Their songs usually are really dark and a lot of people do not like their style/don't understand them. Tbh i haven't encountered other band like this since youtube decided "now ya gonna find some good music".

I'll fully explain the story I created to this another day but it's not screams of fear to me it's rage

Okay this is 2 months later; this is how I perceived the song. From beginning to end it's about a man in serious pain and agony over a loss and how the sadness becomes a rage throughout time. In the start I see him feeling empty and defenseless up until he feels something calling to him, whispering to him dreams of revenge for the loss her felt and the ability to far surpass those who took everything from him. He fears this thing calling to him, but he decides to take the risk and try to find the source of the calling and when he does, he finds himself face to face with a demon of sorts. The demon promises revenge and power unlike the world has seen before and the man at first is reluctant to accept, but being reminded over and over of the things he had lost and the ever-growing rage in his soul made him accept the demon's offer and when he did the demon bonded itself to the man giving him the power he needed to take revenge, but the process of bonding with the demon was agonizing, almost like torture to endure and the man would scream out in pain and agony as he did the day he lost it all, but those screams and cries became roars of malice and rage and when the process was done, the demon would urge him to take his revenge and slaughter those who took away what was his and the man full of hatred, sorrow, rage and malice, rushed to where his enemies were and began slaughtering them all, their screams filling the air but they were nothing compared to roars of rage from the man and when the lands lay baron and his enemies gone his mind would run blank and like a wild beast claiming territory he'd let out his final roars of rage before becoming something else entirely. maybe not the best interpretation but it's what came to my head while listening to this. a man in pain being called by something before reliving his pain and sorrow. and then later on becoming so consumed by rage he lashes out and becomes a monster and destroying his enemies and everything around them.

It is a benchmark for the band. Stylistically it doesn't get much better than the whole De Doorn album for Amenra. But just about everything in their catalogue is visceral and amazing
