Bittersweet also how even when it's only a moment for the dragon, the swordsman experienced all what life could offer. I think a nice thing to keep in mind is that dragons who lay with humans typically develop an affinity for the human race, so its highly likely that she ends up fighting to protect humans while she searches for a worthy opponent after these events, which quite the character growth from when she was killing everything (including humans) in the first part.

Cliche set up, trope inversion or chaotic interactions that break the initial persona, twist ending with usually a comedic abrupt end. THAT is what I'm talking about. This is the storytelling that's subverted here. Yes, the passing of time is a story element that has been used and re used by thousands of authors, may they be classical or modern. Maybe I was not too clear in my initial statement, but you're the one with limited exposure to these great little skits if you can't pinpoint something so basic.
