I have literally just bought mine, and it happened by pure accident. I was talking to a mate anout buying a 997.1 TT to modify for occasional track days, and he told me that a guy in our group had decided to sell his .2 996 gt3 after 12 years of ownership. 24hrs later, I drove the car home. Always always wanted a GT3, and im over the moon with it. The icing on the cake is only 30,000 miles.

Great video. Is a GT3 really worth the extra over a Turbo though? if a Turbo can be bought for 25k.

I'm lucky to own a gen1 gt3, high milage. Every single drive with the car is an event on its own.

Im in the market for a 991.1 gt3 possibly a .2 , but have been falling more and more and love with the 996s & 7s specifically the 996 gt2. Would be my second super/sports car and my first go round was a breeze (brand new with warranty no headaches) and advice going into one of these? Upkeep etc? Im nervous

@@Specialbrown99 it is definitely not as comfy as the 991 :). The maintenance of them is pretty cheap, to be honest. Mine was rebuilt/ precondition 5 years ago (130.000km) and since then it only needed oil and filters. Since the wheels are 18” the tires are also a lot cheaper than on any modern sports car. Driving it is a blast, it is fast and light enough to enjoy it every time I drive. This summer I did a 5000km road trip and I had no issues at all. Very reliable car. Keep in mind that 996 doesn't have any traction control so if you like hooning around but also have some safety net, go 997 or newer. It is very analog and mechanical, with a clutch that could be a workout 😄 If you have the option to drive them, drive all of them and decide which one you like the most.

@@aranyi8921 thank you so much for you reply. So far ive driven a 991.1 gt3 and a manual.2. Cool cars but a majority of the guys i drive with have them and they dont excite me much. I have an f8 and the only thing i look forward to, when in it, is turn of traction and spinning through 5th haha. So the 996 gt2 is top of my list. Just ridiculous prices, ive been looking through BaT and recent prices are crazy so along with that and the car possibly costing me a lot more for maintenance etc i dont want to make the wrong decision. I am willing to work on it myself though I’ve only done a few oil changes and tire repairs back in high school but having a fun car project is much needed. So thats along the lines of what im looking for, an analog experience, possibly modern performance with a few bolt ons to gt2 and reliability.

“The mechanicals will stay the same” - yes but all the suspension needs to be refreshed including all bushes (which for Porsches means replacing all arms), springs, dampers, strut tops. Makes a huge difference for a 20 year old car.

Had this 996.2 gt3 and made 50 k Kilometers of pure joy with it! Sold it for a 997.2 gt3 but i still love the 996 ! Great Vid btw thanks for sharing ! 👌

This video came up on feed today as I have been mulling over a high(ish) miler 6.2 GT3 this past December. These words resonate as the car in question is exactly what is spoken about. Not a garage queen , used as intended and what I can afford. Sort of serendipitous. 162k km if anyone is interested. I’ve made an offer and let’s see what comes of it .

Great cars. I had a mildly modified Speed Yellow 996.1 GT3 for more than 10 years and it was by far the best car I've owned and very reliable too. Really miss that car.

You can consider reupholstering the interior with better leather or alcantara to freshen it up.

@@speed_freak_1001 reupholstering won't change the shape of the buttons or the plastic they are made of and unfortunately those are the parts of the interior you see and touch the most from the driver seat

100% agree with your comments about the mileage. My 996.1 gt3 has 64K which means I'm not precious about using it.

What do you guys think about buying a GT3.2 with mileage bit over 100k (kms)? Metzger engine shouldn‘t be an issue. The one I have a eye on has some stage 1&2 reports (no 3,4 or 5)
