When I was 5 or 6 (late 2000s) my mom thought it'd be hilarious to show me Micheal Jackson's Thriller. It absolutely traumatized me and I could not sleep for months and would think about it for years, picturing the werewolf under my bed. It became a running gag in my family as they would play the music or just any part of it and I would literally have PTSD 'Nam flashbacks and just be utterly mortified. My siblings and I grew up quite sheltered, and while we loved the first and third Indy movies we never saw the second because it was too scary. We were so surprised when one summer day Mom suggested a marathon of all of them, as we were all old enough in her and Dad’s opinion. Except she didn’t tell us why we’d never seen it before, so that scene for us came out of nowhere, but with the buildup we knew something was coming and were so ready to jump and scream when that heart sequence came on 😂 Mom had to pause the movie for a bathroom and snack break 😂 That whole series holds a special place in our hearts, and it’s a fun memory to bring up when we’re all together 🥰 Scooby-Doo: Zombie Island fucked us up proper though, I was 6 and my brothers were 5 and 3 and our babysitter made a terrible mistake 😂

My dad loves to tell this story about my older sister and Chicken Run. I was a baby and she was around two years old when we went to go see Chicken Run since it had just come out. We got in to the movie late for whatever reason and they walked in RIGHT as these two big dogs were growling at Ginger, and my sister screamed until they had to leave the theater entirely. It's still one of my favorite movies despite that 😂

most specific childhood fear: my brother had an arthur book called like “DWs new glasses” when he was like 4 or 5 and it came with stickers to put in it. he put a pair of glasses with eyes over a picture where DW is coming through a door. it scared him so bad he immediately closed the book and refused to ever read it again

Little Nemo was the one that scarred me as a kid, but it wasn't even that scene- I just saw a chunk of it on TV without knowing what it was, and the scene where the black slimy thing like breaks out and just engulfs everything and kidnaps the king guy gave me nightmares. It took me until my early 20s to figure out what the movie even was. Your hatred of The Dark Crystal admittedly makes me really sad, but I still love you guys xD And honestly, I loved that movie as a kid, but the thing that brought it back for me as an adult was the Netflix show. It's like the aesthetic of the movie and still incredible looking practical stuff, but with an actually good script and characters and SO much more levity and fun

Since you guys mentioned Tim Curry, I think of the original movie poster for ""Legend" where he plays the demon lord Darkness. Bearing a possible resemblance to the Devil. The makeup was obviously modeled for his characteristic facial features.

Some of my childhood scares (I was a bit too young for some of these): - The Mummy -> the scarabs AND the blonde American getting sucked dry (you see this happen on the wall) - Return to Oz -> Wheelers and the talking heads - Felidae -> the 2nd nightmare (who's idea whas this?????) - Watership Down - the dog scene (you made me fear a dog, hope yer happy movie) AND Blackavar's death - Scooby Doo on Zombie Island -> Morgan Moonscar and the cat lady transformations/deaths - Final Destination 3 -> the rollercoaster crash (hellloooooo phobia for the next years!) - The Thing -> the dog scene (I love dogs so....yeah) - Animal Farm (animated version) -> the cat getting mauled onscreen (did. not. need. to. see. that.) - Indiana Jones last crusade -> Donovan drinking from the wrong grail (you made me scared of drinking water from a cup movie, congrats!) - Indiana Jones temple of doom -> KALI MAAAAAHHHHHHHHH (seriously how did that dude hold on that long without a heart????) - Bambi -> Little april shower/aftermatch (this sounds like an odd one but I'm talking about that freaking storm that starts right after the cute animal rain scene. this thunder storm scared the shit out of me. the sounds, the shadows, that lightning, just everything) - Arachnophobia -> EVERY SINGLE SCENE WITH A SPIDER

I remember my sister being terrified of Swiper the fox where every time we heard that sound before he shows, she would scream. also, since I watch wrestling a lot, there was a lot to be scared of; weirdly I wasn't scared of Undertaker or Kane at all, but rather I was deathly terrified of The Boogeyman O.O anyone remember him????

The "You're Not Perfect" scene from Courage the Cowardly Dog. A lot of people always talk about the "Return the Slab" scene or Freaky Fred, but that blue abomination with the realistic face whispering "you're not perfect" never failed to make me run screaming and crying to my parents. I was not allowed to watch the show until much older because i would not go to sleep for fear of seeing that thing in my dreams. I don't know who the hell would approve that scene for a children's show.

The one thing I remember getting me as a child was a Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode that the family had on the tv. It was the episode where the monster can only be seen by kids and the adults don’t believe them. Really creepy, I was turning all the lights on to go up the stairs 😂

Fun fact: The teletubies costumes were actually 8ft tall! You can google set photos and the director is stood next to them and they TOWER over him. Actually terrifying. Also quite surprised that ‘AAHHH REAL MONSTERS’ wasn’t mentioned all the characters are truly scary. Especially the professor! Something I was afraid of when I was a kid was the BFG original movie. Just the giants and mannerisms and the fact that they steal children in their sleep and eat them!

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark were a series of books that terrified me as a kid. I was way too young to have read those books, but my grandmother was slowly introducing me to horror and thought that I could handle them. Spoiler alert: I could not handle them. There was also a specific Goosebumps book, Night of the Living Dummy, gave me a life long fear of dummies that I still have to this day.

Then there is that John Cusack comedy "Better Off Dead" when there's the sequence of the hamburger coming to life in stop motion. Now Spaceballs, Pizza the Hutt and the chestbuster alien that comes out of John Hurt's stomach singing the Michigan J. Frog song "hello my baby hello my honey". Still creeped me out even at age 45.

Two things that scared the hell out of me as a child and still give me the creeps, both of which are on KZbin: -Nick at Nite Rewinds, I feel like I never hear anyone mention these!?? I would either run out of the room or close my eyes and cover my ears whenever one of them came on. - The creepy phonecard commercial at the beginning of The Princess and the Goblin VHS tape. Everything about that still scares me, the music, the creepy lady, and the thought of being lost as a child and needing a phonecard to call for help.
