@@stitch8296 nobody is that ugly though... just get the kid away from the toxic environment. Also the bullies will never be satisfied really keep listening to them and you'll end up with hundred surgeries Also if the kids face is literally disfigured due to an accident etc then that counts as medical, not beauty purposes. So I agree with OP, they should wait until they are adult to permanently change their face for beauty purposes Kids aren't capable of fully grasping the consequences of their action yet

As a girl from Korea, my parents also made me go through double eyelid surgery when I was 13 as I was also told my eyes looked like I was glaring at people, and it would make me unable to get a good job when I am older. At that time, I was preparing to study abroad at a foreign country so they thought it was the perfect time as nobody would know that I got surgery. Being an adult now, I think my eyes look ok, but I still believe that they should’ve let me choose when I am an adult, having the capability to understand the potential consequences of it. Sometimes I wonder what I would’ve looked like if I didn’t go through the surgery, and I don’t think I would’ve looked any less beautiful. This is a societal problem rooted in the Asian culture, and it’s truly sad that many people think that outward beauty matters more than what’s inside. I will do my part by loving and showing my children in the future that they are beautiful the way they are, and through more healing and change in the new generations, I hope that this pressure put on young girls can eventually cease.

SO why ruin what god has given u. "Social problem rooted in the Asian culture..." Nailed it! The double eyelid surgery and surgeries that slim round faces are driven by Western beauty standards. It's beyond sad that so many don't appreciate their own unique physical traits. But it would be impossible to believe there is nothing wrong with the way you look when your mother and your classmates constantly tell you that you are ugly and that you must have plastic surgery in order to get a good job or a husband or to simply be accepted. 💔

There's something very off with with Micchi's mom. Her mom did not care when Michi didn't want that pen so close to her eyes and she was scared, and she had to say it hurts for her mom to remove the pen. Her mom only sees her own insecurities, and does not see that she's traumatizing her own child by forcing her through these surgeries, especially around the eyes! I mean Michi was already terrified of having a pen around her eyes, let alone surgical blades! And the surgery took 2 hours with her being awake throughout the entire procedure! The mindset is the problem. People discriminating based on the looks is the problem. Rather than encouraging plastic surgery at such an early age, they should include curriculum at school about self-love and self-acceptance. Also, they should spread awareness among parents. Rather than changing your body to fit into the beauty standards (which changes like crazy), if they can change their mindset and be kind to everyone, things would change. I use to have a Japanese girlfriend, we often conflict a lot about plastic surgery. Cause at that time, I told her how plastic surgery effects her mental health and also her body function, etc. However, it did turn to a big argument then we broke up. Today, I watch this video and finally understand how harsh the society push girls, like they're beautiful when they meet all the standards and it's not be who you are. It really broke my heart, this both aren't mom's fault or the daughter- Michi's fault, it's the fault of people in society judging people through ones' appearances. This truly the deadly beauty!

The subtitle says "I'm sorry that I made her go through the painful experience" but that's such an inaccurate translation. She said "I'm sorry that I couldn't give birth to her with double eyelids". This makes me so concerned about all her kids. Michi looks so sad all the time. Happiness comes from within. Changing your looks is not going to bring true happiness, especially if there is a major core issue. This little girl is obviously struggling because of the toxic beauty standards she's made to believe in. I wonder what the disabled child is going through having this mother who has toxic values and beliefs. I hope they can realize the truth of beauty and life, before it's too late....

What she said about her mom apologizing for giving birth to her with that face really hit me, cos I remember not liking my nose while growing up, I always felt like it was too big and often wondered if I should get plastic surgery to make it smaller as well. Once I got older I remember clearly observing my my mom’s face one day and realizing that I’d inherited her nose and then I suddenly liked the shape of my own nose, my mom is my hero and my best friend, I couldn’t be happier to know that I have some of her features. The same thing happened with me. My nose is a flat as a pancake and although I thought it’s unique since I can remember my mom, my friends even a stupid guy that I dated pointed out how flat it is. My mom literally said “ you are so unfortunate, you got my moms unattractive nose but also didn’t get her big eyes and got your mono plids from your dad” I realised I got the exact nose as my grandmother and I found out her mother (my great grandmother) had a very similar nose. I realised I’m carrying forward a unique physical trait that’s been passed down since generations after generations, my mother has a different nose and my father too , so obviously it’s not common to inherit same as your parents but the nose or other feature you have could be passed down to you from your ancestors… I also think our natural features are what’s make us ourselves. Imagine if every fish in the sea or pebble or rock on the beach looked similar , how boring, no creativity, no imagination . But it’s the different kinds of shapes, sizes, unique physical traits, the unique colours that make it all so interesting , we are all products of nature just like fishes and rocks, our consciousness sometimes I feel is also a curse that’s why.. when we appreciate uniqueness in nature why not celebrate our own unique beauty. It’s cheesy but then again there’s a meaning, “ Be your own kind of a beauty “.

I'm part Japanese and have double lids naturally. Growing up I always wanted monolids to match how I felt on the inside and was raised. The problem with plastic surgery is that there are trends from year to year. A person who fully invests in one trend will eventually realize that the beauty standard has changed 5 years later and and opt for surgery again. I remember contemplating getting double eyelids when I was younger (18) and thankfully, I had the foresight to question what if double eyelids were not considered beautiful anymore? Then what? So now I have made peace with my monolids as an adult. My looks have changed a lot from the time I was a teenager to now, a decade later, because of puberty. I don't agree with the mom giving her daughter plastic surgery at a young age because of that... I do think that the mother is engaging in covert emotional abuse by projecting her insecurities and outdated views of beauty onto her. I think there are many people who are going through different things in their life who turn to plastic surgery as a coping mechanism or view it as a solution to their problems. I can't judge, I can only empathize. I may be Asian but my experience is not reflective of everyone else's, just as theirs is as well. Sometimes people's trauma response is to internalize the problem and blame it entirely on themselves so they change what they can and hope for the best. Passing that onto a child as a mother is f**ed up though.

Same with my brother. Sometimes I am jealous of his tall nose and androgeny. Because no matter how many people say I am cute and pretty he still fits the standard more than me. Sometimes I think it is out the pity. I have more of a button nose and my eyes are smaller compared to his large almond shaped eyes. We both have thick lips but his is more shapely 😑 he is prettier and looks more feminine than I am and he says he would’ve preferred my jawline instead. But feminine looking men are usually preferred over manly looking girls. Whatever, I don’t think I’m ugly and though I’m not the best looking people still find me pretty and I know how to do makeup, so I’m fine staying as I am now. I do not think potential consequences of surgery override my feelings about my face. And like you my parents love me too I think.

I am Japanese too and agree with you. Double eyelid surgery at this age is not normal at all and the mother got heavily criticized on the internet. My parents also forbid me from getting any piercings since I was younger and now I am 20 years old without any piercings. My parents told me that if I ever modify my body I would have to at least be completely financially independent from them. That being said I am currently saving up for my double eyelid surgery. I am tired of having to glue my eyelids on every day and remove it at the end of the day. For me, it is completely for self-satisfaction and has nothing to do with fitting into the beauty standard (自己満足). I have always been told that I was beautiful growing up by most people and was never insecure about my monolids. I was rather praised for being so beautiful and not ugly despite having monolids. I recently started exploring many makeup styles and I just prefer to have double eyelids than monolids on my face. As a girl raised by a mother like this, being taught to never love yourself. That you always need to be fixed. That you’re not alright just as you are. AND THEN live in the world where that message is reiterated, it’s SAD! You’re constantly seeking validation and comparing yourself to others. I am in pain for this girl. The look in her face and her reactions brought back so many memories. At that age, all you want is your mother to love you as you are. And why they can’t seem to do that no matter what you do. They shove all their body issues and self-hate into you and that’s what you have build your self-image off of. It’s a terrible, viscous cycle. I’m happy the mother recognized the pain she caused, but I know that isn’t going to stop her. As we saw. They both need major therapy! When you teach your child to hate themselves instead of love themselves, you’re sending them down a path of self-destruction. It creates the path to Hell that’s paved with good intentions so to speak. Because at the end of the day, almost all of us will do anything to feel truly loved and accepted. And that’s the most terrifying thing.

Ethnic features tend to be very harmonious with other ethnic features. For example, middle eastern people often have very large eyes but it’s well balanced with their thick dark eyelashes, larger noses and other features. Asian features are also very harmonious with each other in a beautiful, well balanced way. If you stuck a Thai nose on a middle eastern person, it would not look balanced. You can’t just slap large middle eastern eyes on an Asian face, it doesn’t look right and it begins to go into that uncanny valley territory. Humans aren’t Mr Potatoheads. Just because science can do something does not mean it should. And we should not be subjecting children to our neuroses and convoluted beauty standards. Each race has its own special type of beauty and I wish we could just celebrate that beauty for exactly what it is. I now see truly frightening plastic surgery on a regular basis and I feel like I’m living in an episode of the twilight zone. It’s no coincidence that mental illness is also skyrocketing.

There are times when I see myself in the mirror and I think I like my face a little bit. It feels wrong though, I have a flat nose and weird eyebrows, which definitely a no-no to the beauty standard around me. I am so thankful to my mum for so many reasons and one of them is that she has always loved me for what I am, she always told me that I was a beautiful girl though I was perceiving myself in a different way. Growing up I wanted to look like her, she is so beautiful herself and I had chubby cheeks which fortunately shrung during my early 20's, I have inherited her traits but even that she always told me that I was beautiful, that bright colours suited me. That has builded up my self confidence which has surely helped me being mentally strong enough to move away from toxicity. I am righting this message on a Mother's day, what parents says to their children get imprinted on them, in their mind. Love them, really love them for who they are, the power of love is so strong and surely the greatest sacred gift that you can give them.

It is a different experience living in a society that is centralized around having an online personality or being criticized on a regular basis about how you look. Without anyone raising you to believe that you are perfect just the way you are from early on it is very easy to slip into who you are is how you look. Love yourself peeps. Fuck the haters. People who criticize you are helping to guide you to the people who are worth getting to know you. Beauty is temporary. Your personality is forever.

This whole video is so sad 😞 The mom with all the kids is transferring her childhood trauma on to her kids, aside from that I saw in the park scene that her son looks to have extra needs. This poor lady should’ve had therapy in her youth for all the bullying, and then ongoing therapy to help her deal with her special needs child. And the poor daughter herself, the anaesthesia didn’t even work 😟 Not to mention that it’s said casually in front of her “I had to level her up. She needed to conform to society’s idea of cute and pretty” and then she acknowledges “thanks mom for spending money to make me cute.” That poor baby was born cute! She was beautiful the way she was, her mom was so caught in her own trauma, she couldn’t see it 😔 And the lady in the hostess club definitely needed therapy as a youth. Imagine your own mom holding a knife to herself saying she felt guilty for giving birth to such an ugly kid 😢 Which makes me wonder what her own moms childhood was like, and her grandmother’s etc. There is deep seated generational trauma in that family 😔 She pretends to be fine about it all and puts on a brave face but she gets wasted the night before her surgery. These people are all just scared, hurt little girls on the inside.

I've always thought that people with big ears look so distinctive and cute. And now it's in-trend to inject filler behind your ears to have them stick out more; apparently, it makes your face look smaller in comparison. It's disturbing how we've gotten to the stage where trends not only cycle in-and-out of fashion but in specific body parts and faces 😢

Mum project her insecurities and expectation to her daughter. It kinda reminds me of my Mum: She always told me I'm ugly and fat (but I was skinny). I have birthmarks on my face and she threatened me with a kitchen knife to remove those. I wish Mums see their daughters as human beings and not as their extensions. Being an Asian girl is so competitive, since Mums always compare you with others and it's all about looks. This is what I don't like in Asian cultures. It took me 32 years to accept and love myself. I hope that the Mum is seeing therapist soon (and the daughter too!) even though going to therapist considered crazy in Asia.

Why aren't these people in therapy?! They need a counsellor, not a plastic surgeon. The problem is really systemic throughout society, everyone needs to do their role in changing that..... but a parent manipulating a young child into having what looked to be a very traumatic plastic surgery is, I think, abusive. The mum & women obviously carry their own traumas. This is one of the most unsettling and nauseating things I've seen in a while.
