@sadistic I'd argue the opposite. Everything else looks mostly "realistic" while the characters have "classic" anime face proportions: eyes are unnaturally large with a tiny nose and mouth (except for the lips, ugh). Other than that, everything else does look beautiful.

Original mangaka draws in this exact style and it's stunning even looking from the perspective of classic-painting-school-warrior. His works are so much better than this anime but still I think studio 4c made a pretty decent job here. I don't even want to compare him to makoto sinkai but I believe that Igarashi's work are in the same level of dedication.

I seriously recommend reading the manga, and before reading it, listen to “Spirits of the Sea” by Kenshi Yonezu (read the lyrics too) It’s a slow story but it’s magical. Also, this movie looks pretty much like the manga art.

Well nowadays is an understatement because this has been done even since the 1900s. Remember Princess Mononoke? I don't know if that was the intended message via that movie but that's how I started seeing it when I changed my major to Sustainability. Now I am starting to see that in Naussica and the Valley of the Wind.

Having already seen the movie, I got to say that it's a unique experience and the last 20 minutes are quite insane both narratively and visually speaking (the entire movie is just gorgeous to look at, but man, that was something else). Go watch it if you have the chance!

@@LutherTaylor It's Joe Hisaishi we are talking about, he's a master at this, and I personally think that this movie has some of his best works ever. Just try listening to "Song of the Stars" or "The Connection of Life" and you'll see what I mean. Words can't do it justice.

The visuals of this movie were something I’ve never saw before. The color work is particularly insane and completely unique. It’s so fresh and beautiful. I highly recommend you to see it even if the scenario is a little bit difficult and completely symbolic based. It’s truly an astonishing movie.

I saw this movie in France a few months ago and was so confused as to why absolutely no one was talking about it online seen as it is an absolute masterpiece . I’m just realising now that it hasn’t been broadcast in any English speaking countries yet so that explains why 😅 Honestly tho get ready for an ethereal experience, this movie is unreal

Children of the Sea is honestly one of my favorite mangas and I'm so excited they're making it into a movie!! Since the original manga art and story is so beautiful, I have very high expectations for the animation. And can we talk about how Joe Hisaishi is composing the score? I've read the manga, and it's incredible! I will say, though, that if you go into it expecting it to be strongly plot driven, with explanations for everything that happened, you'll be disappointed. The story kind of meanders and leaves you to draw your own conclusions.

Is it that there is more diversity or is it that this appeals more to the western market audiences? There maybe be hundreds of movies not released to the west because there isn't a cast as diverse as this one movie is throughout the year. I'm not saying it's anything grand but it's a small step towards the right direction.

@@swingingarashi9956 Very much so. Children of the Sea is certainly not a typical wholesome feels good coming of age story and it's a heck lot darker than you'll expect. If you have read the manga, there are a lot of additional side stories about the mysteries surrounding the oceans that are probably not included in the films about people's recounts and reports on their experience with the deep ocean including some freaky disappearances and meetings.
