I’m getting some chilis soon for my 10 gallon, so this video was good timing. Congrats for 3k subscribers Shaun!

Cheers mate, you noticed the 3k before I did! :) Yea, I was close to giving my chilis away last month, thankfully Horizon Aquatics got them in so I let me friends know and they got theirs from there but the more I watch them the more I like them. Wouldent mind a dedicated 12 gallon for them next year as I'm working on freeing some space up for a couple of new racks.

Great video and always wanted to get some, but my PH is 7.5 Happy to hear that you have kept them at this PH where everything I've read says you need a PH around 6 to 6.5

Cheers mate, the Aquarium Co-Op care guide confirmed they have been able to keep them as high as 8.0. Alot of the stuff in this hobby is from people who haven't actually tried the thing they are talking about. The Walstad Method is a great example of this but I think pH and temperature recommendations come into it too. Take Honey Gourami for example, the majority of care guides say they are tropical fish and need warm water but I linked to research in my video on why I choose honey gourami on their natural habitat that confirmed their water temperature drops to 15C for months every year.

Great video. My new tank is currently 2 weeks into cycling with plants. My plan for fish is Cardinal tetras, Neon Green Rasboras, Corys and shrimp. My water is very hard though as my hardscape is wood stone. Thinking of doing some water changes hoping that my lower the water hardness..

Cheers mate :). If you have soft tap water then water changes should be able to help.

I personally don't think colour of substrate has any effect on the colour of the fish, maybe only on how well we can see the red. My chillies are in a light substrate heavily planted tank and they are RED. I love how small and cute they are.

Yea I think it might just be one of those things a lot of people say but they don't actually try it.

I'd be so keen on these little peppers. My LFS however charges $200 for 10. Makes it hard to justify the price compared to other fish of that schooling size.

Thats a crazy price! The prices here in the UK have been creeping up recently too but thankfully its not that bad yet.

😮 I’ve just picked 10 up for £15, feel for you man.

@@GlassBoxDiaries - Yeah it sucks. Though granted the other popular fish in this hobby are pretty inexpensive in Australia. But for whatever crazy reason the peppers are super expensive.

How big of a gallon tank for 8 white clouds minnows, 8 Gold white cloud minnows, 10 chili rasboras and a couple of cherry shrimp? Edit I am guessing 10-15 gallons
@GlassBoxDiaries16 күн бұрын
I would go 15-20 gallons if possible.

@@GlassBoxDiaries Wouldn't that be too cold for the chili rasboras and the cherry shrimp because it is like a 10-degree difference.
@GlassBoxDiaries16 күн бұрын
@@XICE75 The tank will definatley need a heater if you want to keep the chili rasboras in it but I would go for 20-22C somewhere in there should be fine for all three.
@XICE7516 күн бұрын
@@GlassBoxDiaries Would the PH levels be fine for all 3 because I read chilis like it at a lower PH level

i've never seen this type of rasbora anywhere in my local fish store. i don't wanna order online because transporting stresses them so much.
@GlassBoxDiaries2 ай бұрын
Yea they can be a pain to fine :( Thankfully they are becoming more popular so hopefully more local fish stores will start getting them in :)
