Hey Mark been using your warmups for about 6+years, just wanted to ask what may be a silly question : Does using your falsetto for high notes have the same effect for warming up your voice as reaching up there with your head voice? Any clarification would be appreciated and thanks again for all your great work :)
@voicelessondotcom2 жыл бұрын
Falsetto and head voice are terms used to describe very similar sounds. Some will argue that head voice has a slightly richer quality. But all vocal registers are simply mental boundaries used to create a range of similar sounding notes. More than the label you give a sound, what promotes better behavior is the comfort and control you demonstrate by intentionally asking for a particular pitch, quality, volume and duration. When you get exactly what you asked for you're all warmed up and ready to rock!
@timparm43212 жыл бұрын
Been following you for awhile now!! You’re the best vocal coach!! I have a slight scratch in my voice at time bc of mucus. I take allergy medicine. Not to overshare but I wanted your thoughts on this technique I saw where you hit notes while blowing bubbles in a glass of water through a straw?!? What are your thoughts on what this is used for?
@voicelessondotcom2 жыл бұрын
The straw exercise is good for creating back pressure - which places resistance against the air pressure coming up under the vocal folds. It massages the vocal folds by putting pressure on top of them to balance the pressure coming from below. Good to do!

Mark I've been dealing with a couple of different "issues" since contracting Covid for the second time right after New Years 2024, one is the pain and secondly is trying to keep my voice and my vocal cords lubricated .. I was watching PAUL MCCARTNEY doing a show with episodes on Hulu and he was always chewing on something, I figured it was for that reason.. Dealing with gum with dentures is pretty much a no-go,-any advice coach?
@voicelessondotcom4 ай бұрын
The lingering effects of COVID are varied and terrible! The dryness you're experiencing is due to muscle tension restricting the saliva glands around the larynx. I suspect the tension is due to over compensating due to swelling along your vocal tract (also the source of your pain). When the voice doesn't respond as expected we unconsciously increase effort. So, make a conscious effort to use the minimum effort possible when singing. That means extending your warm up routine with gentle, low volume, exercises. It means allowing your voice to sound bad while your brain figures out a better coordination. Be gentle and control will return.
@akustickesrdce4690 Жыл бұрын
Hi Mark thanks for your video, they really work 👌❤️ Just got a gig in our town library & found myself to be really critical about my voice. Want to enjoy the gig but at the same time be on pitch 100%. IT IS kind of regional promo for my music as Well. But Main reason for me doing IT IS to experience joy of music with other people so we leave uplifted. I am Also playing guitar ať same time. Any tips to relax in formal enviroment? Thanks & all the best, Peter
@voicelessondotcom Жыл бұрын
Congrats on getting the gig! I'm assuming you've heard all the cliches about being in the moment - so I'll skip that. The truth is you'll be the only bully in the room. Keep him busy with playing and singing so the rest of the folks there can enjoy your music. It's not called the gift of music because it makes us creators happy - it's called that because it makes others happy. If you volunteered to shampoo the carpets at the library you certainly wouldn't be happy while laboring through it and you would, no doubt, be disappointed in the result because you're a musician and we are lousy at useful tasks! But everyone else there would be thrilled about it afterwards. Luckily, that bully in your brain picking out every flaw can't be heard by others - until you say his words out loud. So don't! Pitch is not the most important aspect of singing - presence is. So be present. Oops - there's that cliche again!

Thanks Mark, being present IS tricky for me but will keep it on my mind. All the best 👌
