Chiller VSD Replacement York YCIV Air Cooled Chiller

This York chiller VSD failed, had a SCR short out and a capacitor blow. Replacing the full power assembly. HVAC technician should get a lot of use from this as a hvac training videos. Chillers are just one big air conditioner doing what AC do.

The safety fuses blew because of the drive failure, not the other way around. They are designed to react faster than the circuit breaker to prevent electrical fires caused by an arc fault that a breaker cannot react fast enough to prevent. Breakers are for protecting wiring from overheating, not to protect equipment.

Another job of the input reactor (choke) is to keep the switching noise from the inverter from going OUT of the drive onto the line input.

Gret video. Not sure where you buy your parts but its cheaper to rebuild...save in the tens of thousands to rebuild vs new unit. I have rebuild SCR/IGBTs and capacitors in the drives identical to this one and spent around $3,000 for parts

yeah.. digging through those scr are pain in the ass.. specially at 39C in the middle of the day. but unfortunately for me, I have done so many yvaa replaced with shorted or open scr or if im lucky the igbt's.

First thing to verify is control plug. Make sure pins are properly pushed in.

Buenas tardes, Mano le tengo una pregunta, en vista que un chiller dónde he Sido llamado para chequearlo, me he encontrado que se llevaron todo la parte de control y electrónica.... Pero el cliente necesita saber si los motores ventiladores y compresores es Buenos, por lo tanto; me gustaría saber si es posible alimentar solo el compresor directo, al menos como prueba, para saber que está comprimiendo.... Está prueba se hará en vacío, sin carga y sin conexiones de tuberías.... Es decir; la pregunta es: ? Puedo energizar el compresor con voltaje directo sin el variador, solo para pruebas de funcionamiento.... Saludos y espero sus comentarios.

First stop resetting the chiller. Sounds like you definitely have a capacitor issue and possibly a SCR issue. You need to get someone on site who knows that drive and can fix it.
