I got a leaflet with my red envelope letter this week, it was titled 'our most affordable way to pay for a TV licence' just shows how desperate they are getting. Half a million ppl cancelled their licence last year and this year with Starmers tax hicks and the BBC's support of Hue Edwards it's going to be even more.

Its already been tried, a guy took them to court and the judge ruled that the BBC must give people the option to tell them they dont need a tv licence but they can harass as much as they want otherwise, thats why they put the no needed licence number in place a few years ago because of that court case.

I wonder if there is class action case against TV Licensing & the PR firms, they hire for breaching the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations (2008). People are being pressured into buying TV Licenses (via door to door sales reps with over authoritative/intimidating titles), TV Licensing are arguably using scare tactics to convince people that they need a license , constantly contacting people and pestering them into a buying license, keeping important information about the service hidden or obscured (i.e. vague guidelines around who actually needs to pay for a TV License).

I do not watch any TV programs, Full stop. I have removed my roof aerial and satellite dish. The day after my license expired. I welcome the visits knowing I will not engage with them even though if I let them into my home they would only find a home cinema setup because every visit is costing them money. Had two visits so far and a wonderful collection of unopened mail from TV licensing. I refuse to let them know I do not need a license.

As I understand it, it costs the BBC £6 million pounds for Capita to run TV Licensing, a total waste. That equates to roughly 35,000 license payers. It just doesn't make sense. Do they really claw all that back from prossicutions? I would be very surprised if they got a quarter of that back.

When cancelling always sue TV licencing for any delay in paying you the refund. I did, they failed to file a defence and I got judgment which they then tried to worm out of. They ended up paying my costs, interest plus the debt. I was hoping to get the bailiffs round to their office, but they paid up before.

Stay strong. My first two years without a TV Licence comes up next January. But today they sent me a ‘reminder’ - 4 months before the anniversary. Basically a veiled threat with the usual menaces, requiring me to go through the whole No Licence Required rigmarole again. Probably hoping I won’t spot their tricky reverse yes/no questions. That's why no-one ever visits on the dates stated on the letter. The wording on the letters have been checked and double checked by legal departments so there's little chance of winning a harassment case against them. If you don't need a licence just ignore the letters and don't get in touch with TVL.

Received loads of those letters much to my amusement, but there is a new one doing the rounds I got yesterday Clear window says 10-DAY WINDOW. "We are giving you a 10-day window to get correctly licenced". These days, there are many more TV channels to enjoy. But to watch TV live, you need to be covered by a TV licence. As this address does not have a TV licence, it is now under investigation. Normally, you could expect a visit at any time. However, to help you get correctly licenced, we are putting your case ON HOLD for the next 10 days". Blah blah blah blah blah. Reading other comments on your videos CJC, it's a mixed bag with the no licence declaration. I have done it, and not heard a thing from them in 5 years. No letters, no visits. Just an email reminder every 2 years to do the declaration again. They do say they may come around and check, but if they did I would just say no thanks and shut the door. Of course, it's up to the person responsible what they want to do.

If it were just sales - that would be aggravating enough. This is protectionism, though. 'If you buy a TV License - we will halt our contribution to your increased anxiety.' 'Watch out on the 25th of September! If we don't catch you, then, we could catch you before then or after then! If you open your door to the outside, for any reason, we could well be waiting for you. But if you give us money, and you keep doing it, we won't be loitering and threatening you.' Protectionism should be illegal. A legitimate business model should not be allowed to be based upon the exchange of money for not doing something that you shouldn't be doing anyway (namely - hurting others).

I'm surprised that to none of the journalists or content creators who cover this issue have actually done a financial impact analysis on these letters, ads, and 'enforcement' efforts. Even a quick back of envelope calculation indicates that the loss in operational revenue that is redirected to this far outweighs the income from the successful license purchases or prosecutions. That doesn't even include the extra costs to the public purse of police presence, court time, bailiffs, etc.

This would all be so easily sorted with a simple software update on most TV's. Just add a question on screen asking if you own a TV license. If you click "No", you are only served programmes that don't need a license. This won't happen because the BBC would crap themselves if people realised what they would still have access to without a license. My letter said they were coming on 19th September .. never arrived ... a goon appeared at my door 3 weeks ago told him I did not require a licence and shut the door .. then 10 days ago letter arrived ... this is what they are doing with the licence tax harassing members of the public constantly ... I am sure they have my address on a loop of these bloody letters

We stopped paying about 3 months ago. Had one letter. 99% of our tv use was streamed so no loss.

Their letters make great fire lighters when crumpled. IGNORE them. Protection from Harassment Act 1997, serve notice of their harassment then report them to the Police and consider issuing a private civil claim.

My girlfriend had a letter and she has a TV licence, she lives in the new building on land that used to be a car park and a housing estate for a while before that, so the difference between legal occupier letter and her licence is just a few words on the address the road that the address is on is no longer a road it's part of the estate. I wouldn't put it past them to send threat o grams round to people that have already got licences with variation on the addresses!

We lived in a property which had 2 addresses ( one on the deeds, one in common usage) for 8 years - we received a letter from them to the 'deeds' address about every week and NEVER saw an 'officer' in all that time

We stopped paying for the license a few months ago. We didn't notify them or do the no licence needed declaration, we just had enough of paying for a service we don't use. We had our first visit last Thursday, with one of their goons knocking on our door. My wife answered and asked who they were, she just replied ( like we've seen on your channel) no thank you and closed the door on them.

I’ve just had letter number twelve with a window showing in big red letters saying An investigation has been authorised at this address, for all to see, When a barrister takes them to task for intimidation and harassment I will be first in the queue as I can feel a claim coming on. So come on you legal eagles sort it out

They have started sending me threats again. I have a load of these threatening letters. Thinking I'll file a claim against them under the Protection from Harassment Act.

You have to wonder about the character of the people who become these ''enforcement officers''. Who in their right mind would agree to do such a job? I guess it's like traffic wardens...but I look at them and think, ''you are not human pal''...
