I love the fact you hear the 68's powering up and then they just pur out of the station, just listening to them rumbling as they pull away.

***** They do sound nice building up the power and then getting on the gas as they disappear.

It's probably arguable, but I had my first ever journey on a Mainline CR Class 68 hauled service from MS to Warwick PW today, and I can say that this was the most comfortable & quiet highspeed-train journey I've ever had. Whatever Chiltern are doing, they are doing it very right :D

Loving the coaches. These are the only locos built since 1977 that make me want to flail!

The opening take on the '68 look ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.!😲!. I don't know who's livery this is, but, it just looks great. All of our trains should be in these colours, just like back in the BR days. There's no reason why these sets can't last for YEARS. Give them a spruce up every now and then, and there you go. Just as comfortable ANY new train can EVER BE.! .!🧐!.FACT.!🧐!. .!🥰🥰🥰!.

Who noticed a special GWR 43 coach in the 2nd part?

Even a basher on the bleu-grey MK3 set, must be the only train in the UK nowadays (apart from HST's) that allow bashing, and these loco's are worth doing it.

Why do the class 68's lights flicker at slow speeds???
@machosker8 жыл бұрын
its to do with the frame rate of the camera. led lights are dimmed my pulsing them rather than lowering the voltage to the bulb.

Seeing and hearing this I ask myself: what happened to the British train and loco manufacturers?
@Meddled4 жыл бұрын
They couldn't come up with high quality, competitive designs. Probably archaically run, trying to spoon '80s technology into designs built to '60s tolerances by blokes who thought it was the '60s. Either the Class 60s and 58s were great locos that came along at the wrong time, or they were unreliable designs that only served to keep the factories building something, but which weren't actually all that good. British train spotters seem bitter that American and Spanish-built locos keep freight on the rails for some reason, because they wish they could rush down the end of the platform and jot down Peaks and 40s all day. These people are stuck in the past, and have a myopic view of how good, or otherwise, old British diesels actually were.

has a Cat C 175/16 engine. 4 turbos.

Hi, do the lights really flicker or is that an effect of the clip (or the display I'm watching the clip on)?
@nickeustace94959 жыл бұрын
PadisherCreel It's because they're LED's. The camera isn't recording at a high enough frame rate to show them lit properly.

Not a patch on a class 55..40 ..47...or class 37 for sound
@MrDeltic159 жыл бұрын
aldofaescotland I'll agree with you on that(give me a 55, 37, or 50 for sure), but of the modern era I'd say they're the best sounding loco closely followed by a 70.
@Meddled4 жыл бұрын
Deltics sound like a Ford Transit bouncing off the rev limiter. I prefer the guttural thump of a 68 to the stuck-in-first-year sound of a Deltic.
@robtyman42812 жыл бұрын
@@Meddled What!!!???? Sacrilege!! .... a Deltic's sound is absolutely unique, and sounds more like a fighter plane. It's the 37's that sound like a bashed up transit with a hole in it's exhaust/crossed with bricks in a cement mixer. The 37 doesn't have a 'clean' sound. The 68 has its own sound - low volume throb which carries in the air the same way the Deltic sound does - even though the two make very different sounds The other distinct diesel sounds are the 125 (when it had the valenta engine), and the Western diesel loco.

+MrDeltic15 The new locomotives for one of our commuter trains here in America are supposed to run on the same caterpillar engines the class 68 locomotives do but with 4 cylinders more.
@komtasu8 жыл бұрын
+Corey Williams So the new commuter train in America are having the same cat c175-16 engine as the class 68s but instead of having 16 cylinders it will 20 cylinders?
@coreywilliams74458 жыл бұрын
komtasu Yes. I saw the imfo on Wikipedia. The f125 will also have an aftertreatment to meet the tier 4 emissions standards. We're also getting new Siemens diesel-electric locomotives (they're called "chargers") powered by a Cummins 16 cylinder qsk95. They also meet the tier 4 emissions standards using aftertreatments. I can't wait to see them!
@komtasu8 жыл бұрын
+Corey Williams The f125 looks really good shame I won't see one.Are they running yet?

When 'they' talk about the difference between the acceleration of the Azuma, Pendalino type sets, compared to older loco hauled trains, 'they' just need to be shown this.!!!. There's nothing at all wrong with the acceleration of these loco hauled beauties.!🥰!. In fact... Maybe these '68's with a rake of 8 or 9 coaches, are quicker.?🤔?. Does ANYBODY KNOW ?🤞?.

No problem. It's similar with still camera shots too - if you take multi rapid shots you can get various combinations of lights on and off.
